Pat Toomey, PA's republican senator, is expected to announce that he will not run for re-election in 2022 and will retire (not seek the open governor's position). While I am glad he will be out of PA politics after the next election cycle I am not pleased that he will basically be accountable to no one in the interim since he doesn't care if he pisses off his constituents.
This made me so fucking happy. I’m no longer a pa resident but fuck pat toomey. I know meganew was probably gleeful to see this. I remember she did something like tea with toomey and he never allowed them in.

Oh, I remember that! His staff is the worst (I mean, look who they take after!). I've only ever gotten an answer once when I called during Kavanaugh hearing and a smug guy answered and interrupted saying "he'd let the Senator know" before I finished. I also got canned email responses MONTHS after the issue was settled.
He's just going to use his 2 year lame duck to push through his agenda, starting with ACB. I mean, he already does that but now that the tide is turning he knows it would cause his defeat next go around.
I have always been a big Fetterman fan (Lt Gov- not sure if you kept up with him since you said you are now out of state). I think I like him better as governor in 2022 but I like the impact he'd have on a national level in the Senate.

I love Fetterman. I grew up in western PA and Braddock holds a special place in my heart.
This piece from Politico is giving me life this morning. Everything feels so wildly out of control, and Trump has dismantled so many of our checks and balances, it's nice to be reminded of those that are still in place:

I was so pissed when Fetterman didn't win the primary to be the Democrats' candidate for the last election's Senate race.

I have been interested in Fetterman's career for a long time because he was an Americorps participant in Braddock. I was an Americorps participant in Johnstown at approximately the same time.

Yes! Tuesdays with Toomey. And he let us in once- I brought up my concerns over Betsy DeVos (oh, so long ago) and he was a complete ass and called me condescending to boot! I don’t trust him not to run for governor, but if this is true my ass is going to be knocking on his front door the first Tuesday he’s officially out of office to let him know he might be gone but we’re not done telling him what a fucking prick he is.

I just watched minutes 10 - 20 and he didn't seem confused to me. Seemed like how he normally is. What was he disoriented about?
I watched the entire hour and it seemed to get worse as the hour went on.
Wasn’t answering the actual question and seemed to just ramble on with his (random) election talking points.
I didn’t watch and don't think Biden can do no wrong, but folksy rambling and avoiding the question to focus on talking points is the strategy of fully 2/3 of white male politicians. 🤷♀️

Isn’t that what politicians are supposed to do? I’ve done media training (specifically by someone who has trained well known female politicians) and everything made sense by day 2 of that training. I no longer yell at the tv to tell politicians to stop rambling and answer the question. It’s all about the talking points, regardless of the questions asked.

Not sure. I’m an average voter who hasn’t had media training. Yes I’ll vote for Biden regardless, but it just seemed to be a miss for me given that it was a town hall and his responses (which was rambling IMO) won’t be what viewers will remember. Especially given his target voting audience.
There a difference between talking points and random incoherent answers...

Well if he was truly disoriented and incoherent, then yes that’s a problem. Hopefully someone evaluates him to make sure he’s ok. If he was just not answering questions specifically and was rambling on about his talking points then that’s pretty typical.

Did you watch the entire hour?
I did, and that was my personal opinion.
There were a few "get on with it" times for me, ("'Three Things You Would Do To Bring Us Together?' was the question. What does rambling for five minutes about a Senator who adopted a kid with braced legs have to do with that?") but I thought he ended strong. "I'm the transition. You're the future." (well, not that exact quote but that's the condensed version of his non-rambling but full of non-sequiturs response to the young man at the end.)

Nope didn’t watch the entire hour. That’s why I said if he was incoherent and disoriented like you said then I hope he gets evaluated by someone to make sure he’s ok.
I'm seeing speculation on Twitter that there is risk to the R's of enough Senators getting COVID and having to quarantine to prevent a quorum. Currently Lee, Tillis, and Johnson, and they need 51 for a quorum. The speculation says D's could boycott (e.g. arguing safety). I'm a little fuzzy on whether Pence could count as their 51st here or if he only can come in at the end as a tie-breaker.
Is this an actual possibility or just a pipe dream?

That’s interesting. I didn’t watch, but everything I saw on various social media outlets gave him credit for a great Town Hall.

I don't think there are many undecided voters at this point and i don't think many people even watched the town hall, FWIW. we don't even have a thread on it
I somehow missed it was happening. And I’ve already voted, not that anything was changing my opinion anyway.

Well if that’s the case then it sounds like he wasn’t disoriented and incoherent, so that’s a good thing. I’m glad his health sounds to be ok then!
Trump has said there will be no additional covid relief until post election. I have to say I am baffled by this move. While the worst economic pain might be in big cities/blue states it is really all over the country and a stimulus would likely be popular with a lot of the electorate. And even if he wins he's still looking at a democratic house so the situation will be the same.
I’m seeing videos from all over Ohio where lines for early voting are loooooong! My county currently has a line snaking through the levels of the attached parking garage. I think this is a good thing.
Trump’s tweets today accuse Democrats of supporting executing babies after birth. WTF. I have never hated someone as much as I hate him.
I'm starting to hate his hardcore supporters as much as, if not more than, I hate him. He is who he is. If it weren't for millions of people giving him this power, he'd just be some washed-up reality TV star tweeting into the abyss. These assholes know better.

This is where I am today. I hate him, but I really, really hate them. Especially the ones I had considered friends and relatively intelligent and thoughtful. The rage I have for them is unreal.
