I finished Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi, which I wanted to love but didn’t. Now reading A Deception at Thornecrest, the newest in a fun mystery series by Ashley Weaver. I have a bunch of good stuff that came in recently from my library holds list — need more reading time.
Qotw: we had mashed potatoes with turkey meatballs in a gravy-ish sauce.
I've been trying to read The Henna Artist. There's nothing wrong with it and I should like it, it's totally up my alley, but I just can't get into it. Might be a DNF.
I've also been reading Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh. It's fantastic. Emotionally devastating and ugly snort laugh funny all in one.
QOTW: Weird but delicious lamb wrap from a brewery food truck!

I’m reading Transcendent Kingdom now and am really struggling. I thought it was just me.
I am nearly done with Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende. It’s good, but I’m ready to move on to something else and have very little time to read. I am also still listening to Rnage, which I am enjoying.
I finished Anxious People by Fredrik Backman and James and the Giant Peach with my son. We are going to start slightly scarier books this week in the spirit of Halloween. I have The Guest List and my son still has to pick between Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark or Skullduggery Pleasant.
QOTW: Beef Stew, but it was Pizza Friday yesterday.

tacokick the premise of The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore was so good, but I don't think the book delivered. Another friend who read it felt the same. What are your thoughts?

I didn’t think it did either! It was strangely flat and removed in tone.

Over the weekend I started "The Last Mrs. Parish". I'm embarrassed how long it's taking me since it should be a quick read. I also picked up "Wildflower" by Drew Barrymore.
QOTW: Friday we had pizza, today (Monday) I have no idea, probably some kind of take out again lol.
Last week was very challenging. My cat who has been sick for almost a year started going downhill on Tuesday and Friday was our last day with him. Needless to say, I was really distracted and when I could read, I kept reading the same passages over and over again so I wasn't getting anywhere.
Last Monday I finished Anxious People. I really liked it. It wasn't as good as Ove (it must be tough to write something so great that everything else you write can't possibly live up to it) but I got something out of it.
The book I've been struggling to get through because of my preoccupation is The Holdout. I'm trying to get back into my normal routine so I hope to be finished with it by tomorrow. The book is actually decent so far.
QOTW: I don't know what I ate. My stomach has been in knots for days.
