And honestly I would be pretty pissed if I knew my kids teachers were engaging in high risk behavior then going to school to teach.
So you think a distanced, masked, fitness class without shared equipment is too high of a risk for teaching?
Curious, do I have a right to be pissed that I teach 100 kids a day who have done whatever they want all weekend?
I completely agree with you. You have been put in a shitty, exposed position where very few others are being held to the same standard. If your area decided to go back to in person lessons and put you at risk, it is reasonable to me to take some risk in your own life for your sanity. Parents and government can’t control your whole life for you.

For me personally I don’t think 2 "wrongs" make a right. So I think now the discussion has moved to two separate things.
There are always going to be people who don’t follow the rules or don’t follow best practices.
For me personally since I have to sit on a subway for a little over an , sometimes with unmasked people and then see patients all day, I personally choose to limit all my other higher risk activities. Just because people around me are behaving "badly" doesn’t make me feel like I should have the "right" to as well.
I mostly live alone, but my partner comes to visit once a month and I have 1 other friend that we’ve decided to be in each other’s bubble and see each other once a month. Otherwise I don’t plan to spend time with anyone else or resume gym classes, etc until sometime next year.
Just wanted to give another perspective.
ETA: and yes this sucks for everyone. Especially those who have lost lives, jobs, stability, etc.

I’m not going to say definitely because I have questions but the answer is probably still yes. Unless everyone is properly masked 100% of the time, at least 6 feet apart, there is good air filtration and sanitization products work on viruses&bacteria then yes I would be mad my sons teacher is putting my kids & family at risk so they can go to their favorite exercise place when there are other alternatives.
To answer your question - yes you do have a right to be mad! My sister, stepmom and mom all work in schools so I have sympathies for the staff dealing with irresponsible kids/parents too.
You can exercise in a group to support your mental health in ways that are safer than inside a building without a mask on.
If it is about supporting your instructors offer to do it in ways that don’t put their and their loved ones lives at risk. Offer to attend outdoor or zoom classes or give donations if you can .
I’m one of the biggest mental health advocates on this board and a group fitness instructor so don’t even try to tell me you HAVE to go to a studio for your mental health or to support your gym. There are other SAFER options available.
Are there safer options than me having to be working in person? Yes. Safer options to the school sanctioned sports going on? Yes. Safer options than the birthday parties, swim meets, parent parties, etc.? Yes. But those are all happening, every single day.
But a masked, distanced fitness class at 5 am (first class in after the sanitation sprayer) for the teacher? Nah, that’s just a selfish Covid-seeking bitch there.

You are also (amazingly) in healthcare. The profession itself lends itself to being more thoughtful about this - do no harm. And honestly, there may be patients who wish you didn’t take the subway! But that doesn’t mean you need to buy a car, even though you probably could.
And let’s all be real here. There are some places in this country that are 100% not taking this seriously. And the people who live in those areas in “frontline” jobs who don’t have a choice are stuck.
I don’t know anything about OTF, so I’m not sure what 5 people/station means. If the room is like the size of a large school gym and there are 5 people then I’d consider it. But anything else, nope.
I don't go to OTF but a kind of knock off of it, and this is what my gym is doing. The space is about half the size of a school gymnasium and there are 5 people allowed in at a time, max. We use limited equipment (many of us bring our own) and the gym closes for 30 minutes between classes to fully wipe down and sanitize.
If I lived where there was a higher outbreak I would be doing it virtually instead, but right now we have 22 cases in the entire county.
So gyms are too high of a risk for me personally, but I do think the bolded is an important point. There are some states that are being very thoughtful in how they reopen and their numbers reflect it. There are other states that are basically a free-for-all and their numbers are a shitshow.
The whole “well, everyone else is ignoring the rules so why should I follow them?” is a completely human thought, but in reality, the more people are flouting the rules, the more you really DO need to follow them. Someone posted this map in another thread but there are places in this country where, even in a class size of 10, you still have more than a 75% chance of being in the same room as someone infected: covid19risk.biosci.gatech.edu/
That is crazy!
Most things are still closed or heavily restricted here despite relatively low case counts (at least for the moment). It just seems like states that are allowing people to take risks because it’s a “personal choice” are exactly the ones where the “choice” should be to stay far, far away from other people ...
Not you! My point was you mentioned having way less exposure than tamarindy, so you guys aren't living similarly, and no one is going to jump on you for having your outlet.
Dear God. Again, I didn’t say I was living similarly. I said it’s the “same scenario” at the OTF class I go to. The procedures. That’s it. I have no idea where you are getting this.
Also, I love that she can have an outlet but I can’t because I have to teach in person and she stays at home.
The parents of our students threw a maskless gathering, boozing it up, immediately after dropoff the day they finally got their kids back full time instead of hybrid. Believe me, I’m not worried about masking up and going to a distanced class at OTF.
You clarified your "same scenario" after I wrote the post that JayTea quoted. I understood that clarification, gold star for you, but in my post that you quoted here I'm referring to my original point because that's what JayTea was responding to.
Also, it totally sucks that you have to go teach the children of irresponsible parents. 100% you deserve an outlet. From what I remember (I'm on my phone) even the criticisms said you should find a different outlet, not that you don't deserve one at all, but I specifically never said you should stop going to OTF. All I was responding to, as many did, was your seeming logic of "if I'm already exposed by force at work, might as well do the thing I really want to do as well" when that isn't a rational basis for choosing our activities right now. That is not the same as saying what activities you should or shouldn't do.
And finally GET OVER IT. I own a small gym. We are open, with tons of modifications beyond what is legally required but still obviously more risk than being closed. I'm sure there are internet strangers who think that's wrong, and they are welcome to flame me for it, and I Would. Not. Care. because I'm confident in my decision, so I'd just move on. Like I'm going to do now with this conversation.

What? I told you I wasn’t saying that I have the same risk as that poster, I said my morning class is the same scenario. You misread that. So I have no idea what gold star you are talking about.
Can someone please explain to tamarindy that even if we all understood her first clarification that IT'S JUST THE SAME CLASS TIME, GUYS that does not affect the reasoning behind/explanation for posts written before said clarification because we don't have time machines yet? 😂
What is your problem? I didn’t need to clarify shit, you misread and went off on some weird tangent about my “Covid points” being different than JayTea for some unknown reason.

If this keeps going you and I will be BFF before it’s over lol. 😝😉
