I was shocked hey let him do this interview. It was good. I need to go online and watch the 60 minutes overtime extra interview with him later.
My first thought was it’s somehow a Trump campaign strategy. Fauci is way more popular than Trump so they probably figured they shouldn’t muzzle him just before the election. But OTOH, it’s not like he was all that kind to Trump either so I don’t know.
I watched highlights of Fauci’s interview this morning. My dentist used to work with him, years and years ago, and said Fauci is every bit the man we hope he is.
Covid is not only hitting diabetics hard but may also cause it.
“COVID could be causing diabetes from scratch,” said Dr. Francesco Rubino, a diabetes researcher and chair of metabolic and bariatric surgery at King’s College London.
Rubino is leading an international team that is collecting patient cases globally to unravel one of the biggest mysteries of the pandemic. Initially, he said, more than 300 doctors have applied to share cases for review, a number he expects to grow as infections flare up again.“

Don't viruses often cause T1? I thought that was either a known or suspected trigger. So this would fit. ETA: fast Google says enterovirus.

Per the last conversation we had on this board about this, yes.

My husband's co-workers asked him if he would be interested in attending the annual teacher Christmas party since they're trying to figure out where they can book a room and how many people need to be accommodated. He asked them if they were out of their fucking minds, especially since he's quarantining right now because of building exposure that they are well aware of.
I told him I can't believe they are prioritizing a work Christmas party when people are trying to figure out if there's any way to see their families for Christmas, but he said some of these folks basically live for this annual Christmas party and are in denial that they won't be able to have one this year. And this is why we have case increases. I can't with this universe.

Yeah. I think most people are going to go to Halloween parties ("we do it every year!"), and Thanksgiving gtgs ("we do it every year!"), and Holiday parties ("we do it every year!"). I can see it even in the groups of people that I know have been careful. So many people are going to die over the holidays this year.

I think Fauci can kind of just do what he wants now; if Trump were to fire him, it would be a pretty bad move right before the election. Then again, bad moves are kind of Trump's thing, so who knows.

Some interviewee on Meet the Press this week was like, "this is the year to not travel for the holidays. This is our COVID year. Hopefully it won't be the same next year and we'll be back to normal, so this year, just try something different." Which, frankly, is helpful for me because I can use everything like that to justify not visiting my dad for Christmas, who is not great about staying isolated.
My office is doing an outdoor GTG in a few weeks, which I can't attend due to a previous commitment (medical thing) and I'm kind of bummed about it because I just found out my boss is leaving in November and it will be the last work event with her, but...

I'm trying to remember - can Trump fire him? I recall Fauci is pretty well-protected because of his civil service position.

We are doing a WebEx holiday “luncheon.” I’m planning to use breakout rooms to simulate lunch tables, and avoid the 30 people talking at once on zoom thing.
I’m somewhere between “I can’t believe I’m thinking about this in October” and “work party planning in a thing of mine, and so I wanted the distraction of coming up with something ‘team building’ in this times.”

Oh... early in the administration, he made some change that allowed named firing of civil service. I’ll see if I can find the details, but it sent a cold shutter through many of us.
This is just insane. TL:DR - 50 employees of a rural Kansas Hospital have caught Covid since late September. Hospital leaders, the sheriff and the school superintendent are afraid to say anything about mask mandates because of FREEEDOM.

It's pretty clear "personal responsibility" is just not working. It potentially could if we had any kind of collective community spirit where we cared about keeping each other safe and made our own decisions to protect them knowing what we know now, but we don't.

I don't know, but I feel like I ask "Can Trump do that?" on at least a weekly basis and the answer is always "turn out, surprisingly, yes" or "who cares, he's gonna do it anyway."
I had my first antibody test as part of a year long antibody study. It was negative. Goes to show that even UV cleaning and nonstop rewearing of my n95 has been helpful....*side-eye* because I feel like all it does is show my health system that they can continue to not give us adequate ppe.
My sister is my absolute best friend. I love her. She is smart and reasonable. She texted me last week about all of us traveling somewhere to spend Christmas together. She lives on west coast and we live in the midwest. So it would be a huge amount of travel. Plus including my dad that would be merging 3 households together. I had to say no and it made me feel really guilty. But also, wtf. No we are not traveling for Christmas! I am working on an elaborate plan just to safely see my ILs and they only live 45 minutes away!
I agree there is going to be a lot of death from the holidays. We are all SO TIRED. I think people are starting to give up because this all feels really hopeless. And man I get it. I get a pit in my stomach anytime I think about the holidays. It is easier when we were just trying to find our little glimmers of joy in summer. Reality is hitting hard.

This does not surprise me at all. I grew up in KS and have family in rural parts. The misinformation spread by Trump is believed absolutely. It doesn't even change when someone they know gets critically ill.

I liked this because I’m glad you’ve remained safe. I don’t like the rest of what you wrote.

My work is trying to figure out a way to do staff wine tasting. What in the actual fuck?! Cases are way up in Oregon and we are still doing distance learning only. COME ON.

I did a pretty fun wine tasting over zoom a few months ago. The restaurant delivered all the wine and food and it went really well. It can be done, so tell them that!

I’m really shocked by New Jersey’s spike. It’s alarming that they can’t trace it to specific reasons, but I’m not shocked that it’s likely from private indoor gatherings.
I just had a FB friend post a million photos from her wedding including getting ready. In the salon, at the wedding, in the reception. Not a mask to be found anywhere. Not even on staff. Huge guest list it appears.
This is the shit that makes me feel legit crazy. How can we all live in such different realities?

My parents are going to a wedding in 2 weeks so I had to uninvite them from my house the weekend after.
My sister was supposed to go to their house for Thanksgiving, but they insist on inviting the full regular list so she is not going. She feels my parents chose seeing extended family members over her and I don't blame her. They did. She's fairly upset.
I know my sister and I are doing the right thing here, but it does suck.
