We’ve been feeding Blue Buffalo large breed puppy since we adopted our lab/great Pyrenees mix back in March. He’s our unintentional quarantine pup. We put in the application in late Feb/early March and took him home March 16. He’s 10 months old now and about 80-85 lbs. We’ve been feeding BB since we can get it from Chewy. Delivery has been so much easier during all this! I found a locally owned store that offers curbside pickup and delivery! Yay! We stopped in for the first time today. We assumed we should be switching to a regular food instead of puppy. Because Jack is so large and according to the owner is most likely still growing, she suggested we stay with a large breed puppy food and gave us a sample bag of Fromms. OMG-he normally picks at his food but he inhaled the mix of old and new food. He normally gets 3 cups for each of his 2 meals. We gave him 2 cups of his old food and the sample bag of new. I’m heading back tomorrow to get a 5 lb bag to make sure he really likes it before getting the large bag.
Is Fromms a good food? And would you keep him on a large breed puppy food a little bit longer?
I was taught to feed puppy food until they stop growing. It helps to slow the rate of growth to help prevent problems when they are older. This is especially important for breeds that are prone to hip dysplasia. Puppy can be up to two years, so I would probably stick with the puppy formula until I have seen a few bags worth of no growth in my dog.
There are several good foods, the key is to really read the ingredients.
Everything else aside, it might not be that he likes the new food better, but just that it's new. So don't feel like you need to switch because he ate it more quickly, he'd likely tire of it eventually just like any food.
With that breed mix, I'd do puppy food at least a year. Fromms is fine - my ILs feed it - but if he's doing well on his current food, I am of the opinion of it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Fromm is a great food and we've fed that before. Right now we are actually feeding Diamond Naturals which is an all-life stages food www.chewy.com/diamond-naturals-chicken-rice-formula/dp/34919 I will say, my dogs don't eat anywhere near the amount of food that is recommended by this brand, not because I won't feed it to them, but they won't eat that much food even if I give it to them.
That said, I don't have a large breed dog, so I might err on the side of caution and continue feeding the puppy food until he's done growing.

We have a local 'Healthy Pet' store, and their most recommended brands are Fromm and Victor. My older dog is on the Victor food.
My lab puppy was started on Diamond Naturals Large Breed Puppy, so we've kept her on that (she's 7 months now) and probably will keep her on that till she's 2, then transition to what my other dog eats.

We feed Fromm and my dogs love it. We have large dogs, too. Our 90lbs GSD with a high metabolism gets 4 cups a day, and our Rottie gets 2.5 cups (split over 2 meals). Fromm also has a loyalty program so every 12th bag is free. All our dogs are older yet still are very high energy and in excellent health, a lot of that I credit to the dog food.
Well we wound up with the big bag of food after all. I wanted a smaller bag for the transition to make sure he really liked it and that the food didn’t upset his stomach before spending the money on a large bag. We got the large breed puppy but the pet store owner said there really isn’t a significant difference between the Fromms large breed puppy and large breed regular food. I have to compare the labels to make a decision. DH is the one who talked to the owner. On Saturday, only he was allowed in due to Covid restrictions. Owner only allows 3 people in store and no pets. I waited outside with Jack and kids. On Sunday, DH went solo. The owner said she has been feeding her Doberman the regular large breed formula nit the puppy since he was about 8 months and he’s now 6 years old.

not familiar with Fromm - but agree with large breed puppy food for at least the first 12 months. Of course paying attention to how much you're feeding and his weight.
