Praying that 2020 will somewhat redeem itself, rather than giving us the cherry on the shit sundae that has been this year.
All you people with your Xanax have reminded me that I have some emergency Oxy for an intermittent medical condition. I might need to dig that out. It knocks me out cold.
I'll be volunteering most of the day but I think I'll be done around 6 or 7. Then I'll try not to think about it for a few hours and check before I go to sleep. I'm not expecting a result on election night, given the shitshow that is voting this year in PA. We are spending so much time just telling people HOW to vote. There is so much confusion and results will take days to come in.
I'm not sure. I just early voted today (yay!), and was just thinking about how weird the Election Day ritual will feel without ... voting. At least that day. I'll need to make some new traditions.
Yeah, it will be a little anti-climactic to not actually go to the polls that day.
Stress-eat my weight in snacks while watching Maddow and Kornacky. I took the next day off so I can either stay up late to celebrate or drink to escape reality.

No idea. I don’t expect that we’ll know the winner that might. I can’t have people over to watch the returns like normal, I already dropped my ballot off weeks ago, and I have work the next morning. So I’ll likely not spend the night watching because I don’t know if my nerves can handle it knowing it likely won’t be decided that day.
Watching MSNBC and chatting with you lovely folks. (which, incidentally, is pretty much what I do every night.) I'll try to go for a walk before it gets too dark which will temporarily decrease my amxiety, until i put the TV back on. I should try to obtain some alcohol, because I fear I'm going to need it.
We were supposed to be at DisneyWorld - I figured it was the best place to be to get my mind of things, lol. Now obviously that is out.
I might try for a movie marathon. I don’t know. I honestly don’t think I can even watch news coverage. I hosted a viewing party on 2016 and what a mistake that was.
Getting a COVID test? because I'll have enough anxiety to trigger nausea and shortness of breath, if not vomiting diarrhea and a host of other symptoms.
I'd like to be standing outside CFG's official event "Say Anything" style with a boombox playing "Sha Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye." But the motherfucker will probably be in his hometown which is far away.
The networks are preparing other programming (as in, additional shows not on election night) because it is not anticipated that results will come in that night like they always have. So I don’t think election night will be interesting at all. I will probably watch Netflix and check twitter/reddit.
Can I ask a dumb question? Why aren’t we expecting results on election night? Is it because so many more states than normal are allowing early and mail in voting and there are expected to be delays with those states?

Pennsylvania and Wisconsin aren’t allowed to start processing absentee ballots until Election Day and Michigan can’t start processing them until November 2nd. Some states also accept ballots that are postmarked by Election Day even if they’re received after so with the large number of absentee and mail in ballots, it’ll take a longer time to get everything counted.

And this is different than normal because there are significantly more absentee ballots than they typically get? Is this more difficult to count than actual Election Day votes (which obviously can’t be counted until people cast their votes)?

Yes - more ballots, and many states take longer to process pen-and-ink paper ballots than machine ones. It's a big change for a lot of states!
I am hopeful that we can celebrate Gardner's ouster that night, at least.

My understanding is that they’re more difficult to count than Election Day votes because they have to check all of the signatures before they can start scanning them in. In Colorado they’re able to start that process as soon as the ballot is received but states like PA and WI don’t let them do that until Election Day. There are more mail-in ballots because of COVID but Pennsylvania also recently changed their election laws to allow anyone to request an absentee ballot without having a reason. In 2016, about 5% of PA voters used absentee ballots but they were used by about 50% of voters in the primary.

I think all the recent court challenges and changes will also muck up the timing.
Xanax and my bed. I feel queasy just thinking about watching results.
Last time I realized fairly early on that things weren't going as expected and no amount of tequila could get me to feel anything other than horror, so alcohol isn't going to cut it this year.

As I'll be going to bed at about 5pm Eastern Time, I'll probably be getting up to early predictions/numbers. I think as I have to go to work and be productive, I might just ignore everything online until after the day is over.
I’m happy to be living overseas for this one. The news will not carry a lot of coverage unless I actively seek it out. Due to the time difference, I probably won’t even take notice of it until Wednesday morning, U.S. time.

This is me too! By the time I wake up, it's 11 PM or so in the US, so polls will be closed but I'm not expecting a winner.
I'm considering a media blackout because I just cannot take the speculation. But it will be hard to stay away so I'm torn!!!!
I don’t think we’ll have an answer that night, and I’d rather not watch hours of speculation, so I’ll probably try to watch other stuff — movie marathon, I don’t know, and go to bed at a reasonable hour. My anxiety is already starting to spiral out of control, but due to my job I can’t take anything for it, so I’ll probably try to step up my meditation and exercise in the next few weeks.
ETA: we have another potential cat II hurricane headed our way, so I guess i have that to keep me busy.
I live in PA I’m not expecting results until Thursday or Friday (if they can get their crap together). So I’ll work that week and try to have some good movies or books lined up until we get an answer.
I am certain I’ll be watching extensive coverage of results, even if it may not be called until some later point. I’m impressed with how many of you are saying you’ll be doing anything else!
