What would you put on these windows? At the very minimum, I need to have something that I can close at night because these windows are right on the front of our house at ground level, so we don't want people looking in while we are watching tv. Our ceilings are just under 8' and there are electric baseboard heaters under each window, so floor length curtains are not an option. We did have curtains hung high and wide but I never thought it looked right with the shorter curtains. Also, we just added the crown molding so I definitely don't want them that high any more. As you can see, we currently have 1" faux wood blinds, but my dogs have destroyed them. I was thinking maybe Roman Shades? But I'm not sure. I'd love any suggestions.
Obviously the room is mid-construction, so here are some of the finishes if that helps:
Paint will be SW Opaline and the Trim is going to be SW Pure White:
Floors are this:
And this is what we'll be refacing the fireplace with:
I vote lighter. We had bamboo shades in our old house (mostly the bedrooms just given the layout) and we had medium color ones. Just stock from Lowes or HD--not special order. When we put them in our master we wanted the privacy-lined ones and just got the stock ones with privacy lining. They were lighter bamboo than the ones in the other rooms and I preferred them and had buyer's remorse for not going with those throughout the other bedrooms.
I like the lighter bamboo shades! Have them sized to fit inside the window frame. We replaced some of our old outside mounted blinds with inside mounted ones and it looks much neater.

I wish we could do that, but the way our windows are, we can't do inside mount. I am worried about it looking "unfinished" but I really don't want to add back curtain panels either.
I love our shutters. We can tilt them so that we still get light/airflow in but privacy isn’t an issue, and I love the way they look. They were definitely an investment, but worth it.

Is it that you don’t have enough frame depth to do inside mount? I just installed some blinds from Select Blinds and their bracket only required 1/2” of depth to do an inside mount. The same type of blinds from Lowe’s required a much deeper frame for the bracket.

Correct. The window is virtually flush with the casing. I'm not sure that we even have 1/4".

Ours are the same. We have an outside mount bamboo shade on the window over our kitchen sink and I think it looks fine.
I'm actually thinking of taking it down because we don't need the privacy or the light blocking facing the backyard, we never lower it, and I'm always trying to think of ways to get more light into our house. Plus it'll give me the kick in the butt to paint the window trim white. We're soooo cloooooose to finishing painting all the trim in the house white, and it's been ongoing for so many years! But that's not the fault of the shade.

I had wicker-ish shades put in all along our ground-floor and love them! I like the light coming through, but in the bedroom they are lined and totally opaque, which was my compromise with DH.
I like the idea of a cordless Roman shade, in a subtle pattern.
But, do you want to be able to have privacy screening during the day? They make privacy/UV shades so you can get some light but also have privacy. Not sure if you need that during the day. I think then you would maybe need two layers?

I do not need privacy during the day, only in the evening. I don't know a lot about bamboo shades, given that they filter some light through during the day, do they actually provide privacy at night if they are unlined?

DH stood outside at night while I had the lights on inside and the shade down, and he said he could see like a shape but nothing else, and even that was only when I was standing next to the window. Of course it depends which ones you pick.

oh I like the bamboo idea. We just replaced our windows and used to have Hunter Douglas inner-mount blinds, but with the windows there wasn't room. We also have baseboard hot water heaters so cannot have long curtains... but I still ended up with curtains
