Our county (carroll county, Maryland) reported 27 cases in the past 24 hours. The highest it's been in one day before today was 11. Percent positive overall for the state is 4.25%, minus retests is 8.8%. It's going up.
On daily basis, I ask my husband if this is how the world ends. Between Covid, the election, and people just not giving a shit about anyone else anymore, I am convinced it may be the beginning of the end.
If anyone needs me, I will be in my pit of despair for the next week or two.

I'm feeling like this today, too. I'm generally an optimist so I hate this but today everything seems bleak and hopeless. I have this horrid sense of impending doom. I know PMS is at play, too, but this feels different. Ugh. I can't wait to wake up one day and find some better news.

Add in climate change and I’m right there with you.
eddy and other Iowans...Did you see why Iowa’s numbers aren’t adding up? Our lovely Governor has an extra special set of data that is not available to the public. And THAT is what they’re supposedly basing things on.
I can’t even calm myself enough to actually read this to figure out what it all means. It has something to do with only counting people once. So if you tested negative in March and then in September, only one counts? But what about if you’re neg in June and positive today? It makes ZERO sense. I just know it’s all bullshit. People are dying, our numbers are insane, and our Governor is essentially MIA.

My county will likely face further mitigations soon. We are at 7.9% positivity and after three days of 8, we'll go back. We're one of only two regions in my state that don't have further mitigation at this point.
I also got a bit freaked out today because both my bosses and a whole slew of teachers have to quarantine because someone in a meeting with them yesterday is now positive. I was not in that meeting, but I did meet with one of the teachers who WAS there for about 40 min today (masked and more than 6' apart in my room). I do not have to quarantine, but she does because she was in that meeting. I mean at this point I'm a contact of a contact and she likely did not get infected (everyone at that meeting was masked), but still. It freaks you out when it gets closer to home.

You’re not really a contact of a contact because she could not have caught it and become contagious between yesterday and today. This is why it’s so important to keep meetings very small/virtual, and reduce our contacts! Obviously not everything can be virtual, but this is a good reminder that all it takes is one meeting for things to spread.

Yes, I may suggest she and I do our weekly meetings virtual from now on (I'm her mentor teacher).
I am so mad at my district that they are requiring all of us teachers to attend large in-person meetings when it's just not necessary. We have to sit at the same table as others in the library, and some meetings had like 25 people in a classroom with only a couple feet of space between desks. I have voiced my concerns to the super and nothing has changed.
Well, I’ve had a raging sore throat since yesterday. Almost a fever (100.2). So now doing the mental gymnastics is it strep, from intubation, or covid. I has surgery on Wednesday, so I was in a hospital for about 6 hours. But I figured that had things down to no expose other patients.

Oh no, I hope it’s strep! That’s what I had on March 21st and of course I was terrified it was covid. But I had those same symptoms.

It is so irresponsible to hold meetings in-person. That’s what zoom is for. Even in-person staff here are required to sit at their PCs for meetings even if someone else is across the room.

This is one of the things that I hope lasts: medium-large, regular meetings via Zoom. I want to be able to get back to in-person for smaller meetings and casual hallway chats (including at large annual conferences), but if every department meeting for the rest of my life is via Zoom I will be happy.

Me, too! Unfortunately, I could not get in a doc in the box to get tested for both. They said next appointment was Sunday. So, I went to the county run drive in.
the most logical answer is it’s lingering from intubation during surgery. Last time I had general anesthesia, I ended up with a non-typical strep (F I think). But, I’m also getting winded going upstairs. So, I am of course freaking out.
I hope it's just lingering effects of intubation. Fingers crossed.
Yes! I had one reading at 94 last night, after running upstairs. It’s been 96+ every other time. No fever.
But, I just stuck my face in the coffee can, and it seemed... stale? Less strong than when I tried this yesterday.
I’m probably just being extra paranoid. Logic says.
But I am going to be soooooo pissed... of course I start contact tracing myself, and it was either really fast from my surgery, or when we went out last Friday for our anniversary. We did outdoor dining in the middle of the street, then wandered around outside Annapolis for awhile. We commented on how crazy busy it was, but outside, masked up. This was literally the first fun thing we’ve done in months.
Pretty much all of the middle part of IL is under stronger restrictions again because numbers are so bad, basically going back to outdoor dining only, smaller numbers allowed in groups, etc. But a lot of town/county leaders are saying they can't or won't enforce the restrictions.
@@ A lot of areas in this part of the state are also very "the government doesn't control Halloween!" So I can imagine numbers will get worse since it sounds like a lot of people are planning parties or town events.

I’d definitely call your doctor if you haven’t yet. Other infections can be serious too. But it seems like a quick turnaround for Covid. The incubation period is 2-14 days, with 5-7 days being most common. So if you had surgery on Wednesday, and your sore throat started the following day, it seems like something else might be the culprit.

Yeah, I’ve talked myself out of hospital exposure. We did do a few things in public at the end of last week. But, really, it’s most likely from being intubated for general anesthesia. Sore throat is a common after effect. It can last up to 5 days! I’m pretty sure I’m just being hyperchondriac + 2020.

Just wanted to give you one more reassurance... I’m a preop/PACU RN and whenever we put someone under general, we tell them that’s it’s normal to get a temp around 100 for the next couple of days. The anesthesia can cause it. We tell people not to go get it checked out right after surgery until it’s 101 or above. Hope the sore throat goes away! Drink some warm tea!

THANK YOU!! I know the 100.4 rule, but didn’t know a low grade fever was normal. Yet another reason I dislike going under general.
P.S. I got out my breathing tube thingy. Because I had it and I know the lungs can get a bit tight or something. My last one was a broncoscopy, so I had a lot of lung recovery then.
Our state technically slid back to a partial lockdown (closing indoor dining only, which makes little sense while gyms are open and people can have 25-person indoor meetings). In my purple area of the blue state, 90% of the restaurants are openly defying it, and all officials are saying they won’t enforce it. I did takeout tonight, and seven families were eating inside. I don’t think another lockdown is going to happen unless it’s a total lockdown or a national lockdown because nobody is listening or enforcing. We are a blue state, so I can’t even imagine how red states would handle a lockdown. I am really worried about how bad this is going to get.
