Can someone recommend a good place to start with Playmobil? My DD will be 5.5 at Christmas. I think she would like Playmobil but don't really know where to start - there's such a price range!
My kids LOVE Playmobil! Watch for deals. They frequently sell sets at 30% off or even more on Amazon, if you aren't picky. Definitely get the regular, not "Playmobil 123", which is more for toddlers.
I would just start with a mid-range set or two of whatever you think would interest her. If you go on the website, you can see all the sets by theme. There's regular city-type ones, dinosaurs, mermaids, fairies, dollhouse, etc etc. So many. If you want to open that door, you could let her browse a little online and add some ideas to her Christmas list...unless you think then she will pick the hugest set out there and "HAVE" to have it! Or just have the luxury of getting one that you like!!
My 7.5 and 5.5 year old girls get our sets out a lot, and really, they seem to like them all. They get them out in rotation. They had the vacation home A-frame where people can zip line out recently, and the hospital, and the tropical island.

My 6-year-old and 3-year-old love Playmobil. My son has a lot of the emergency responder sets (police station, fire station, and vehicles). My daughter got the ice castle for her 3rd birthday and she plays with it daily. If you are just starting, I would recommend getting a building because that gives you plenty to play with (people, accessories, etc.). My kids really love the people, so sometimes I buy extra people as stocking stuffers.

patches31709, this is where it’s really helpful to know your kids. My kids love playmobil. We have a police car, ice cream truck, camping set, and something else that all got played with a bit. Then DS1 got the big city zoo for Christmas two years ago and ever since then all we do is buy more animals/ animal sets. He’s stopped using the people and just sets the animals up in habitats. I could have skipped the other sets and just done the animals.
Jumping in. Does anyone have a magnatiles marble run like this?
Ds (4.5 years) loves the marble run we have but it’s kind of difficult to put together and get the marble to go correctly without toppling the whole thing. I ran across this because there was a similar one in the kohl’s Christmas ad and he loves magnatiles and thought it might be good.

I don't have that but I'd be worried about how fragile it is. We have picasso tiles and they break apart pretty easily. H was looking at a marble run that is compatible with Duplo and that seems way more stable to me.

For Playmobil my kids love the horses, most especially the Spirit Riding Free sets. They think they want the big ones, but in reality it's the people and the horses they play with the most.
My DS (4) has the Playmobil fire station, police station, ambulance, school bus, and garbage truck. I really hate the police and fire stations because they come with 1,000 pieces and my DS is rough with them so they never stay together, and then I have no idea how to put them back together. But maybe your child is not as destructive as mine. He really enjoys playing with the ambulance the most, I think. I like how it has a little stretcher and IV drip, lol.

That looks perfect! We have a ton of duplo that could be used with that.
We have the duplo compatible ones and my 7 year old is playing with them ask I type actually. we got a couple sets and he loves making different tracks. then he has marble races lol.
