Yesterday C “graduated” from ongoing oncology care. Many of you might remember that a little over 5 years ago, we found a 9cm tumor on his left kidney that was later determined to be a rare form of Wilms Tumor. He had his left kidney removed, and they were able to get the whole tumor before it spread.
We’ve spent the last five years in oncology monitoring, blood tests, imaging, to ensure the function of his one kidney and make sure there are no signs of another tumor coming back. And yesterday, on my 40th birthday, he was declared “graduated.” You guys, he never has to go back! No more withholding food after midnight for his imaging twice a year, no more soothing him through blood tests, no more worry that we’re going to get horrible news again. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
