The request prompted a sharp response from Dr. Noble. “Respectfully, by what authority are you sending this to me?” Mr. Noble wrote, according to a person who received a copy of the exchange after it was circulated within NOAA.

Mr. McLean answered that his role as acting chief scientist made him responsible for ensuring that the agency’s rules on scientific integrity were followed.

The following morning, Dr. Noble responded. “You no longer serve as the acting chief scientist for NOAA,” he informed Mr. McLean, adding that a new chief scientist had already been appointed. “Thank you for your service.”

Combine that with the news late last week that trump made an EO making policies positions excepted, not career, positions.

I really wish more Americans cared about all of the ways that Trump has quietly demolished so many of the firebreaks that have historically kept our public service relatively free from corruption.

I think most people don’t even realize how much there is.  I think back to 2017, and there was a thread (probably on MM, since that’s where I hung then). And one person was saying “I like what he has done about lobbying.” After his EO on lobbying post federal employment was issues. I don’t recall the details, but he was crowing about his 5 year ban. And people loved it. But, the previous ban was something like 7 or 8 years, so he actually REDUCED it. But, these are details no one knows or cares about, so 5 years sounds good. 

don’t quote me on the actually years. I just remember the big pictures (what sounded good was actually a reduction).
