Hillary did not lose because she was less likeable than Trump. Come on.
Did Stacy Abrams lose because she was less likeable than Kemp?
I don't disagree. Voter suppression is a real thing for sure and Kemp stole the election.
But, lots of people didn't like HRC, and they couldn't give a reason other than "I just don't like her" or "she rubs me the wrong way" or "she's a bitch."
There were valid reasons to disagree with HRC on policy, her record, her experience, just being plain, old sick of the Clintons. But I think a chunk of the dislike for HRC boiled down to the fact that she was a woman and the traits or characteristics that are seen as positive or acceptable in a man made her as a female candidate unappealing to a chunk of people. I don't think the majority of people didn't vote for HRC did so because she was a woman, but it was enough added to everything else (suppression, Russian interference, etc.) that tipped the election to Trump.
First, there were people that didn’t get to vote because of voter suppression. That is the biggest, most impactful difference in several states that were the determining factor in 2016. This is still a big issue and problem now and why I personally am still so worried about this election.
Next, you listed a bunch of sexist reasons why people didn’t vote for her and then said you don’t think it was because she was a woman. Yes, it was.
If someone said “I didn’t vote for Stacy Abrams because I don’t know why, but I don’t trust her” Then the main reason they didn’t vote for her is because they’re a racist.
Just because people don’t realize their casual racism and sexism, doesn’t mean that it’s not the driving factor in their decision. If they pointed to actual, legit policy differences, cool, that’s different.
Likeability is coded language. Anyone listing “likeability” as the reason they don’t vote for someone is really just refusing to name their real problem, be it sexism, racism, homophobia, classism, ageism, whatever.
Can someone explain the Hunter Biden laptop/emails like I’m 5? Is there really anything to it?
To add to the very complete explanation upthread, the laptop repair guy who said Hunter Biden dropped off the laptop is legally blind. There's also metadata on the files that suggests they were created six months after Hunter supposedly dropped off the laptop.
It seems glaringly obvious to me that this is disinformation or hacked information. Giuliani apparently shopped the story around and pretty much every news publication rejected it--even Fox News.

To build on this, my understanding is that some of the information is likely real--so someone close to Hunter was hacked and the emails were seeded with other information to give it more of an air of authenticity.
The Washington Post @washingtonpost · 13m "Anonymous" will soon no longer be anonymous.
The author of "A Warning," the buzzy book criticizing the president written by a Trump administration staffer, is expected to be revealed later Wednesday afternoon, people familiar with the planning say.
On one hand...exciting news. On the other...too little, too late with millions already voted. Plus will it really move Trump voters? nope.
I haven't followed the laptop saga closely because it seems like complete bullshit. One part that really confuses me is - do people really drop computers off at those repair shops? And even if people do, why would someone as rich as Hunter Biden do that instead of hiring someone or just buying a new laptop?

There are a lot of inconsistencies in the story. Supposedly he wanted the data recovered from the laptop (that part is believable) but why this little shop, and why wouldn't he pay the bill to pick it up? Also, supposedly the owner doesn't actually know who dropped it off. He said the person dropped off three water damaged laptops and the shop owner just shrugged it off as "because he's rich."

H dropped a (work) laptop off with a local repair person a while back to get the screen replaced. Why would you assume this doesn't happen?
As for wealth factoring in...maybe whomever dropped off wanted something on the hard drive? Or didn't want to be wasteful? Is Hunter even rich?
Don't get me wrong - the scandal is clearly made-up - but the idea that Hunter Biden might want a laptop repaired doesn't seem outrageous.
ETA when I Google "Hunter Biden wealth" I get a lot of non-credible, obviously politically biased sources.

Can i vent in here how inconvenient my county is making mail /early voting? The office is only open 9-430. Other counties have extended hours, or a box in some areas, etc. But my county doesn't. I'll have to mail it, which OK, I'll do that, but would prefer to drop it off but can't because I work.
I have to say for the record I didn't like Hillary. I didn't want the baggage of what Bill did to interfere with getting shit done. I was worried that her being the first woman to run for president would somehow be failure. I had a very biased view I suppose. That said I still held my nose and voted for her. I don't have the same feelings about Kamala and I would be extremely pleased to see what she can do as VP and one day be a president. She won't be a damn puppet like Pence.
Also this horseshit story about the laptops has more holes than swiss cheese.

Right, I agree, racism and sexism impact people's perception of likability. That's what I put in my first post. So, even if someone doesn't recognize they are being racist or sexist, they are and that is impacting their judgment. I thought you disagreed with me on that so I was trying to explain my thought in a different way. Obviously I'm not explaining myself well.
Anyone else having serious anxiety this week about Trump declaring himself the winner on Tuesday night no matter what the actual results are and just watching the doomsday scenario unfold? I’ve read about every possible scenario if this happens and all of them end up with another 4 years. This has consumed my thoughts today.
DNI Ratcliffe went off script when he alleged last week that Iran was sending intimidating emails to Americans in order to "damage President Trump," according to two senior administration officials with knowledge of the episode.

Everything I am reading today says that if you haven't mailed your ballot by now, you need to drop it off or vote in person.

Captain Catnip I'm out of my lane since I'm not in HR or anything remotely close, but I thought employers had to allow provisions to let their employees vote? Or is that only a company of a certain size like FMLA? Or have I just been lucky and mine have been generous all this time...

It rubs me the wrong way that people are using the "legally blind" thing as an argument for why this couldn't have happened.
A person can still have some vision and still qualify as "legally blind."
I'm not insisting that this story is true. I just thing that it's kind ableist that the public has latched onto the "legally blind" thing.

What I’ve seen people say is that yes, people who are legally blind can have some vision. But he would have needed to sit down and read through thousands of emails to find what he did. And he’d have no reason to do that and the fact that it would have been more difficult for him than someone who isn’t legally blind just makes it that much less likely that it happened.

It's not an argument for why it couldn't have happened--but it definitely goes to the credibility of the story. Giuliani ran around telling people that the store owner confirmed that Hunter Biden dropped off the laptops. When asked, the store owner said he was pretty sure it was Hunter but can't be completely certain because he's legally blind. That's one of several huge "chain of custody" problems with the story.
I agree it could come off as ableist (and I hope my explanation didn't cross that line--if so, I apologize). I also think it's a shorthand way to point out that even the store owner, the key person in this whole story, says he isn't positive about what happened.

In the US you do legally have to give employees time off in order to vote, but only if they cannot go when the polls are open. So if an employee works a 10 or 12 hour shift and that shift is during the only time polls are open on Election Day, the employer has to allow the employee up to two hours of time off to vote. Most employees won’t fall into the category, but I could see nurses, Dr, first responders etc needing time off because their shifts tend to be longer.
