This grossed me out. I'm also worse than I thought I would be at guessing people's political preferences based on the contents of their fridges.
Right? Look, I’m not an amazing housekeeper, but my fridge looks 20x better than most of those.
Also, do you guys keep your bread in the fridge? I find that really strange. Regional?
Oh and I liked when it asked what item made you guess the way you did. I guessed a Trump fridge correctly based on Duke’s Mayo.
I do. I don't eat bread that often, and it goes bad more quickly than I can eat it. I also have spent a number of years living without a/c in warm climates, so that certainly doesn't help.

Man, I had a really good streak going there. The further I went, the more I got wrong. My average when I stopped was 51% correct.
I had forgotten that so many people keep huge pitchers of juice from concentrate in their fridges. We used to do that growing up (usually lemonade). But I rarely keep juice on-hand and when I do buy something like OJ, I get it from the refrigerated section now rather than a frozen mix. I suppose that's a form of lifestyle creep that I hadn't really thought about.
I don’t really understand what the point was. To see that we all eat salad? That Biden voters have something in common with Trump supporters? That people make classist assumptions about each other?
I was amazed at how empty some of these fridges were. What are they eating? I didn’t even seen much take out leftover containers.

I am sorry. I don’t want to editorialize. But this is NUTS. You’re the @*nytimes. Have some respect for yourself.

Yeah, this seems like more like clickbait than NYT to me. I got about 60% right. Trumpets drink out of a lot of single-use plastic bottles, and Biden supporters use more multi-use storage containers (glass or plastic).
Good to know that bread lasts longer in the fridge.
It loses some of its bounce. If you’re going to toast the bread anyway, or use for like grilled cheese, it maybe doesn’t matter a lot. I will sometimes store bagels in the fridge so they last a little longer. English muffins do okay too. But something that you want really soft, like a dinner roll or hamburger bun won’t fare quite as well. And for the love of all that is good in this world, do not put really good bakery bread in the fridge! Just eat it with a knife and stick of butter over the sink if you must.

Right. I expect this from Buzzfeed, not the Times.
That said, I assumed that if you have a pitcher of homemade tea, you lived in the South and were probably a Trump voter. I know not everyone in the South is a Trumper but it was a stab in the dark that worked for the most part.

I got up to 70% before I quit.
I have a pitcher of homemade tea in my fridge (that I learned how to make from my hippy Californian mother). But it’s not diabetic coma sweet tea, just regular old unsweetened.

Yeah, I didn’t really understand what the takeaway was either. I thought some of the emptier fridges might be trying to make a point about food insecurity, and most of those did tend to be Biden voters. But that might be a stretch. There was also one fridge where I chose Trump because there was a single-use plastic water bottle in it (won’t they think of the environment!?!) and it was actually a Biden fridge. Conversely, there was a fridge with craft IPA beer and that was a Trump one.
ETA: The article says: “ A little more than 12 percent of respondents told us their families did not have access to all of the food they needed in the previous two weeks, a proportion similar to what a U.S. Census Bureau survey found in September.”
But it adds that those fridges were roughly split between Trump and Biden.
Initially, I was doing really well and guessing with actual reason. For example, I noticed a container of cage free costco eggs in one and guessed Biden (correct). Another fridge was totally empty and I guessed Biden on the assumption that it was a single millennial (also correct). The one with the fried chicken bucket I guessed Trump (correct). But from there, it felt like a pure coin toss and most of the time that I guessed Trump I was wrong and it was a Biden fridge.
I feel like the only thing that would really make that obvious is lots of organic or "hippie" products. Also, things like cage free or free range eggs feel like a giveaway too. But obviously that's not hard and fast, so...

Ha, my takeaway from the one empty fridge I got was that the person was a single millennial male.

Yeah, the tea was usually a giveaway, and some regional brands. But I live in SC and you won't find it in my fridge.

I have always found bread dries out terribly in the fridge. If I’m not going to eat it before it goes stale I freeze it, then it toasts nicely. Same with bagels, they toast from frozen very nicely.
Trump voters put the pot or pan directly in the refrigerator.
Goddamn it! Don't take away my progressive card. I live alone and hate doing dishes.
Bread is just a food delivery mechanism for me, so I don't mind if it's not perfect. In fact, I'm about to go toast some with brie. In that case I actually prefer it slightly stale. I think the only time I eat bread with just good butter is when I make my own Irish brown bread, but I don't make it unless I'm making soups, so, again, the purpose is food shovel.
As far is fridge preferences, I've had roommates as liberal as me, sometimes even moreso, and our sides of the fridge have always looked very different. I agree with pixy0stix. We all eat. The end.

We do that too, but only with pots of soup. Why transfer it to a container if we are just going to have to put it back into a pot to reheat it? It's efficient....which sounds better than saying that we are lazy. lol
