The head of Duval County FL’s vote-counting board has donated to Trump 12 times and has six Trump signs up at his home, despite rules barring him from doing so.
Senior county Judge Brent Shore, who has refused to change rules barring the public from photographing or videotaping vote-counting meetings, first donated $20 in 2016 to Donald Trump’s initial campaign for president. He has donated 11 more times since then to Trump for a total of $170, as well as donating $178 in the last two years to the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Outside his home, his yard holds a Trump sign and two signs for Republican U.S. Rep. John Rutherford. A Trump-Pence banner hangs from his front window, and four stickers cover the window panels by his front door. “Americans for the Trump Agenda,” reads one. “Keep the heat on Congress.”
...
While Shore didn’t return requests for comment, his wife, Kathryn Petway Shore, answered the door Wednesday evening at their Atlantic Beach home and demanded to know how a reporter knew her husband had donated to Trump.
She then said the Federal Elections Commission’s donor database must be wrong because her husband hadn’t donated to Trump.
“I’m not convinced just because somebody put it on a list that my husband did it,” she said. The donations said they came from a Brent Douglas Shore who listed their home address and said his occupation was “judge,” “judicial” and “retired” and listed the “state of Florida” as his employer.
She said the six signs and stickers supporting Trump’s campaign and the two signs for Rutherford belonged to her and not to her husband.
“My husband would never do anything unethical or improper,” she said. “I am not a judge, and those signs are mine. And yes, that’s my half of the front yard.”
She said the sign on the other half of the yard was also hers. Yet a judicial ethics opinion explicitly says spouses cannot post political signs in the yard in front of homes where judges live.
This made me cackle. "Thats my half of the yard." What a ridiculous thing to say.
These people will stop at nothing to make it work for them.
I’m in the Dallas burbs and while the loud mouths on social media and yard signs are heavier for Trump, I was surprised to see in the link someone posted that broke down donations to each campaign by ZIP code that my ZIP favored Biden! I don’t think Biden will win Texas but it does seem with every election it’s leaning more and more blue.
Can you tell me which post has the link? I would be curious to search my zip code. I am north of Dallas, near Aubrey.
I really feel that Texas is at a turning point. It is going to be close. Trump only won by 9% last election. That is with 48% of voting able who didn't show up to the polls. I think Beto had a lot to do this. When he was going against Cruz it was close then. Harris is visiting three of the most important counties that could really make a difference. Rio Grande Valley, Fort Worth and Houston and all that crap that Abbott did to suppress the vote didn't work as the youngins are voting in high numbers. I am trying to have some faith that Texas could turn blue.

I'm texting Texans for a couple of hours this afternoon. Doing what I can!
If you want some good data analysis, Dave Wasserman is the guy to follow. I don’t particularly care for his personality but he does a good job of breaking things down and communicating benchmarks. He also seems to have access to the district-level polling. He’s talking about TX this morning - turnout is highest in the suburban districts right now, particularly around Austin.
I’ve heard that TX is bluer than people think, its problem has been turnout because everyone has assumed their vote doesn’t matter. The talk of TX being a swing state has dramatically accelerated turnout.
The 2 main differences between TX and NY are 1. Higher percentage of rural voters 2. Low turn out in bigger cities. This starts with voter registration which I believe is challenges in TX.
If turn out improved in bigger cities and democrats can improve their margins in rural areas then TX would be at least purple and I believe it was a swing state back in the 70s.
There are other differences too but overall I do think long term investment in TX would pay off a lot for dems.
I’m really frustrated with my sister. She lives in Texas and clearly had no intention of voting (didn’t vote in 2016 either). I finally got her to fill out an absentee form the day before it was due, but I have no confidence she’ll get it on time and be able to drop it off by Tuesday.
She is admittedly having some health issues which she says makes it hard for her to wear a mask for extended periods of time, but she also won’t respond to me about going early before they open so she can wait in line with fewer people and for a shorter period of time.
This election is going to impact her. Her health insurance (which clearly she needs given her current issues) is through the ACA. Gahhh! Stop being stupid and go vote!

This is local to me. I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised that the (few) comments on our local news story about this are all talking about how this judge is corrupt and should be removed.
On a related note (because on Twitter she responded to this story saying she was "on it"), are any of y'all familiar with Nikki Fried? She's awesome. She's the Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, and she's the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida. I don't think I've ever before known who the commissioner of agriculture was, but she has really done a great job of advocating for Democratic values and standing up to Desantis.

That is super frustrating! One of my cohort classmates is living out of state since we're virtual and requested an absentee ballot and never received it. So she FLEW IN to Dallas for 18 hours to vote. There's also drive-up voting in some places for those with medical needs.
I will not get your hopes up about Texas. I will say that even though I knew my vote "did not count", I still voted in each presidential election. On election night, it always looked close but ended up in a red landslide. We have been attracting a lot of out of state businesses and people the past decade, but I think we are still a decade or two from being blue on election night. I still like the idea of promoting blue votes in TX because even if it does not win, it clearly sends a message that we do exist. In the US house, TX has 36 seats: 23 R and 13 D.
ETA: Forgot to share a local news headline that a young TX voter that was out of state drove 20 hours here to vote because her absentee ballot never showed up.

What county is she in? My county will accommodate curbside voting!

Call her county and see if they have curbside - I know the spot I’m working will.

Travis. I’m currently googling to see how she can do that, but if you have info, let me know.

I was texting for Georgia yesterday and got so many positive responses. Lots of people voting for Biden-Harris and lots of them already volunteering or wanting to volunteer. Looking on the Slack channel, many other texters had the same experience, both in GA and TX yesterday. It gives me hope.
If you are physically unable to enter the polling place, you may ask that an election officer bring a voting unit to you at the entrance of the polling place or to a car at curbside. You can vote curbside during early voting or on Election Day. Voters who are planning to vote curbside are encouraged to contact us upon their arrival at the polling location. Call (512) 238-VOTE (8683) or (512) 854-4996.

I have been trying to have a conversation with my brother about voting for Biden in Florida. He has multiple sclerosis as well. He says he doesn’t care. I don’t get it. We are both on disability and Medicare! How can he say voting is not important?! I’m so beyond upset.

Thanks. I just found that and confirmed it via phone. I also confirmed her registration is active.
Just sent her a long text with all the information and how to vote.
Turned in my absentee ballot today and damn did it feel good. Still feeling really anxious for next week. If Trump wins I think I'm going to fall into serious depression.
I saw someone wearing a mask yesterday that said “Trump 2020, fuck your feelings”. Lovely. I did take solace in the fact that he surely (hopefully?) didn’t buy this directly from Trump’s campaign so Trump didn’t actually make money off it. And at least they were wearing a mask.
I think it would be amazing if Texas finally did turn blue. I was just looking up election results, Beto only lost by ~215,000 votes in 2018. There are about 1.2 million more voters registered this year than in 2018. In my county, just north of Austin, early voting numbers have now surpassed the total number of votes from the 2016 and 2018 elections (tomorrow is the last day of early voting). So I don't know how likely it is, but I'm going to believe it's possible. I know at least 2 people who got their citizenship this year who live in Texas and are helping the blue wave.
