The opening round of voting for the Goodreads Choice Awards has begun, and it ends on November 8th. For those of you not familiar with this, every year Goodreads has awards for different genres of books that have been published in the last year. This year's voting is for all books published between November 16, 2019, and November 17, 2020 (yes, this is stupid that the first round of voting ENDS before some of the books could even be published, putting those books at a disadvantage).
Fiction Voted - The Glass Hotel 4.5* Read: Transcendent Kingdom 3* Dear Edward 3.5* The Midnight Library 4*(I think this should fall under fantasy personally)

I haven't voted in all the categories that I could vote in because I'm in the middle of some contenders right now and I thought I could get some more under my belt before the first round is over.
Here's what I've got so far:
Fiction *in the middle of If I Had Your Face and waiting on The Midnight Library to become available through my digital library Read: The Girl with the Louding Voice 4* Transcendent Kingdom 4* Anxious People 4.5* Such a Fun Age 5* The Glass Hotel 5* Luster 3-3.5*
Mystery/Thriller Voted - The Sun Down Motel 4* Read: Winter Counts 4* Long Bright River 4* The Guest List 4*
Historical Fiction *I'm hoping to get to The Vanishing Half before I vote Read: A Long Petal of the Sea 4* The Henna Artist 3* The Night Watchman 4*
Horror Voted - Mexican Gothic 4* (I voted for this mostly because it's the only book I read in the category.)
Non-Fiction *Undecided right now Read: Hidden Valley Road 4* Tightrope 4*
Memoir *I've got Notes on a Silencing and Hollywood Park in my to-read pile so I might have a different opinion in the second round. Voted - I wrote in Sigh, Gone: A Misfit's Memoir of Great Books, Punk Rock, and the Fight to Fit In Read: When Time Stopped 5* (I'd be just as happy if this was the winner. I loved it.) Uncanny Valley 4* The Beauty in Breaking 3.5*
History/Biography Voted - Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents 5* Read: You Never Forget Your First 3-3.5* The Splendid and the Vile 5* Wandering in Strange Lands 3-3.5*
Debut Novel *Waiting to read A Burning before I vote
The only category where I have read more than one book is Horror: Devolution, Mexican Gothic, and the Grady Hendrix book. I liked them all but will probably vote for Mexican Gothic.
In Science Fiction I only read To Sleep in a Sea of Stars but I think it is worth voting for.
Solutions and Other Problems (Humor) was amazing, I think I would vote for it no matter what. I laughed so hard that I had trouble actually reading it a few times.
In several other categories I have only read one book each and I don't consider them award worthy. Will probably just skip them although I have more on my hold list so I may be able to vote closer to the end. If not, I may try to stop being lazy and look for Write In candidates.
Gosh I have not read much this year. And what I have read I have been disappointed in!
I voted in a few categories:
Fiction: voted-American Dirt. 3.5 stars but at least I finished it. Anxious People and Transcendent Kingdom were both DNF for me. Oh, and Big Summer, too.
Romance: voted-The Happily Ever Playlist. 4.5 stars. Regretting You-2 stars Party of Two-4 stars Beach Read-3 stars In a Holidaze-3 stars
YA Fiction: I didn't vote but did read One of Us is Next. I think I rated it 3 stars.

I’m reading Big Summer now. I hope it doesn’t suck too much. I‘m 4 behind schedule for the year and I thought it sounded decent.

I also read One of Us is Next and opted out of voting for it. I was disappointed after really liking the first one.
There are some books up for mystery and fiction that were some of the worst books I’ve read this year. I wasn’t terribly impressed with the nominations.

I always try really hard to read books that I can vote for and I come up short every year!
Fiction Write in - Rodham by Curtis Sittenfield.
Read The Glass Hotel 2* Transcendent Kingdom 3* Girl With The Louding Voice 4*
Romance Voted - In Five Years
Read Beach Read 4* Party of Two 4*
Horror - I've only read Devolution, but I voted for it anyway because it's really stuck with me.
Non-fiction - write in Why We're Polarized by Ezra Klein
Memoir & Autobiography - voted Open Book
I have Hollywood Park and A Promised Land on hold at my library so I'm going to try to get those in before the next round.
Debut - Voted The Girl With The Louding Voice because I was going to vote for it in the Fiction category but changed it to my write in so I decided to vote for it here.
I read more books than I thought I would have. However, none really stood out for me. I'll probably add more books after going through the lists more thoroughly.
Such a Fun Age 2* Dear Edward 4* Anxious People 3* The Glass Hotel 3.5* Home Before Dark 4* The Boy From the Woods 3* The Guest List 2* The Sun Down Motel 4* Unspeakable Things 4* In Five Years 2* The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, 4*
On my to read list: - My Dark Vanessa - The Midnight Library - One by One - The Searcher - Long Bright River - The Henna Artist - The Book of Lost Friends - The Book of Lost Names - In a Holidaze - Hidden Valley Road
