The Girl in the Mirror by Rose Carlyle (this was really bad)
Now I’m reading Big Friendship: How We Keep Each Other Close by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman
QOTW: nothing changed really! We don’t have kids and we don’t get trick or treaters so it’s always been pretty chill. We normally have a movie double feature of Hocus Pocus and The Lost Boys. This year we are adding Bell, Book and Candle since we really aren’t going anywhere at all and have plenty of time.

How was Notes on a Silencing?
I LOVE Bell, Book and Candle and especially Pyewacket the cat.
On Sunday I finished His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie. I really liked it. Then I zipped through Like Crazy: Life with My Mother and Her Invisible Friends. It was mostly delightful. Today I should finish If I Had Your Face. It's a really interesting glimpse into Korean society/culture from several women's perspectives. Kind of depressing actually!
QOTW: Our neighborhood is packed with kids so we're going to put a sign on our door to let them know we're not participating in handing out candy this year. DD is too young to really know that she's missing out on anything so we'll probably just take her to a pumpkin patch tomorrow. If I can get her into her Abby Cadabby costume then we'll take pictures. That's it! At least she's been able to enjoy all the fun Halloween decorations. She loves them - nothing seems to scare her.
I read If You See Her by Ania Ahlborn. This was supposed to be my spooky Halloween read but it was fairly disappointing.
QOTW: We don't do much for Halloween so this year won't really be any different. Usually I watch The Shining and other scary movies but I'm hoping we can binge The Haunting of Bly Manor this weekend.
I read: Leave Only Footprints - My Acadia-To-Zion Journey Through Every National Park by Conor Knighton (shoutout to lust2hart for the rec, I really liked it); Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson; and Tweet Cute by Emma Lord.
QOTW: Halloween will be a little different. We are going to TOT, but the kids will not be in any type of big group, and they (and I) will be masked. I will have them sanitize periodically. If anything gets too “peopley,” we’ll move away. Instead of the communal bowl on the front steps or held by whoever’s in the house, I am going to bag candy in Lunchskins (more environmentally friendly than plastic bags at least) and leave it on a table at the end of our driveway. A fun community activity, reasonable public health measures, and sustainability all in one... these are my favorite things, haha.

It was good. Sad and kind of lowkey but good. I don’t think she examined her parents as critically as she should have. She mentions some odd things they do but doesn’t really delve into it IMO.
My husband hadn’t seen BBC until last year and he really liked it too. It really has some odd touches in it and Pyewacket is great.
I'm currently reading God Shot. I was going to read My Dark Vanessa afterwards, but I'm second guessing it now. I'm not sure I want to read another dark book.
QOTW: I'm making it more of a major holiday this year. I bought cute place settings and am making fun meals all day. We're having spider web pancakes for breakfast. Pumpkin pizza and frozen butter beers for lunch and pumpkin shaped quesadillas for dinner. I bought a pinata, Halloween games, a Halloween movie, and we're making Halloween treats. My daughter is more excited about this year because she usually gives away 90% of her candy every year anyway because she's really picky about the candy she will eat.
I finished Last Train to Key West, which was an enjoyable quick read. Now reading Hollowpox, third in the middle grade Nevermoor series — love this series so much and it’s perfect escapism heading into a week that will be stressful in every possible realm of my life.
QOTW: our trick or treat was last night. One way walking routes, masks and distancing, plus the weather contributed to keep the crowds low by being miserably wet and cold. That said, it was actually kind of fun, and we had some cute kiddos who were very appreciative.
Reading A Curious Beginning and enjoying it so far. Listening to 28 Summers. Hope to get more time with both this weekend or early next week.
QOTW: we’re holding back on inviting ALL the friends to trick or treat with us, a smaller more subdued group and lots of rules for the boys while their out. We’re also going to send candy sliding down a table on our stairs for trick or treating.
A Woman Is No Man by Etaf Rum. Fantastic book on a difficult topic. Couldn't put it down and couldn't stop thinking about it for days. Highly recommend.
The Marriage Game by Alison Weir. Loving it, as I do nearly anything about Queen Elizabeth I and Tudor England.
QOTW: Nothing. We are doing nothing, and I'm seriously bummed about it. I always buy full size candy bars and hand them out. We don't get a lot of trick or treaters, so they usually get a couple a piece and I give them to the parents, too. They all get so excited! I love seeing the kids dressed up and am so sad to miss it this year.

Glad to hear this endorsement! It's coming up in ~2 weeks in my hold list and I've read nothing about it beyond being on the book club list.

A Woman Is No Man was absolutely fantastic. Hard to read but very good book.
