MSNBC is pissing me off. They've jumped right to how hard it will be to govern and this isn't the victory Dems wanted blah blah blah. All of which might be true, but can we fucking call it already and maybe have 5 seconds to celebrate???
We are MSNBC watchers here, and I have this same complaint about them. Not just today, either. I get there is a LOT of work to do moving forward, but just for a few minutes, can we celebrate this accomplishment?
And we need to give ourselves some grace on the overall election results down ballot. We didn’t get the wave we wanted. But we didn’t run our ground game the way we wanted because we were being responsible in a pandemic. By and large, Dems held off the Trump wave. And I believe when you take the Trump factor out of the equation in 2022, Dems can make the gains they need.

It is a decisive win. We wanted a blowout and we didn’t get one in exactly the way we wanted it, but despite the anxiety of the past few days, it’s still huge.
He got the most votes of any candidate in history.
He won the popular vote by 4.5 million people.
He will win the Electoral College decisively.
That people are racist shitheads and Trump is a treasonous tyrant can’t take that away.
I was watching Abby Phillip on CNN discuss how meaningful this is to black women who have done all the work. To see Trump's racism start with the birther lies and to see his presidency end by the work of black women and with a black female VP. She was nearly breaking up. And that sent me over the edge.
I stand by what I said Wednesday (omg feels 10 years ago)- Biden will get PA, GA, NV and AZ. It will be close in each race but collectively Trump has nothing. It won’t come down to one state. I think Biden is going to win by a very similar margin that Trump did and we can go find the old tweets about the “landslide” victory. There really is a tweet for everything!
Not trying to be snarky, but literally who is this? lol
My understanding is they’re a pretty reputable source that calls the election. They haven’t called Arizona yet.
I just wasn't sure, like, are they affiliated with a network? And really, who is the final word on calling an election? Is it ever REALLY official before the electors cast their votes? I've never paid this much attention to the minutia of an election before lol.
Lurker here, I just wanted to come out of the woodwork and thank you all for this thread. I often see what's going on here first, and I admit I've been totally useless at work all week and pretty much just refresh everything constantly. I'm barely holding back tears and not sure how I'll make it through the day, but knowing I'm not alone in feeling this way is amazing. Like others have said, it's way too close, and it's unfuckingbelievable that this many people support Trump, and there's a lot of work to do. But we need to celebrate first.

They are usually my go to for data on incoming votes. Nate Silver just shared their tweet and said good for them because he thinks it’s the right call. They aren’t a network but their data is usually completely spot on.

CNN just reported that Fox News has directed their staff and anchors to not use the term “president elect” for Biden due to the legal actions to possibly come from Trump. They will project the electoral votes for him, but not call him by the proper term.

I know we all have *feelings* about 538, but they have been using them as the official source for their calls consistently throughout this week. They have a blue check on twitter and seem to run a decently bipartisan line, so I feel like they are solid. Although I am for sure biased about this, as well all are.

No, it’s not official regardless of who calls it. The results have to be certified and the electors have to vote before it’s official.
But it’s good as with the network calls. It won’t change with the certification process and we’ve already discussed the electors.

Totally frivolous here, but I am also happy that we have officially chosen Gritty as our mascot for this, because there are SO MANY good Gritty gifs and photos out there. He truly is a national treasure.
Man, am I emotional today. The video is tongue in cheek but still made me cry. All the "groups" that came together to make this happen and save our country from 4 more years of Trump. Especially the black community, again and again. And never in my life have I appreciated Philly more (or, at all 😘).

MSNBC just changed crews and this new woman is literally beaming as she announces where we are with counts. It's happening. We know it's happening. We can smile and be proud and it's happening. Tears of relief.

And don't forget that he beat the incumbent with national name recognition, which, even though the incumbent is a piece of shit, is not an easy thing to do!

Yes. This is where I am. I *thought* I had been unwavering in my belief that Biden would win, but my tears are telling me otherwise. I'm not tearing up because I'm excited/happy; I'm tearing up because I'm relieved.
