It may not feel like but it's Friday! What have you been reading this week? Anything you would recommend?
QOTW: Were there any interesting races or ballot measures where you live on Tuesday? OR, if you aren't in the US: How has this crazy election been covered where you are?
I finished God Shot. I am half way through The Book of Lost Names. While it is good, the mother is annoying me to no end.
Qotw: We just moved here, so I didn't vote in their local elections but a candidate won that admitted to circulating revenge porn and was charged with threatening to shoot up a school.
I read two short books this week. One was Spirit Run: A 6,000 Mile Marathon Through North America's Stolen Land and the other was A Burning. Spirit Run sounded a lot more interesting than it was. It was one of the weaker memoirs I've read this year because there was a lack of direction and cohesive theme. A Burning was really good but depressing.
QOTW: There weren't any interesting races or ballot measures in my area. travella - That's disturbing!!!
I’m rereading The Queen of Sorrow by Sarah Beth Durst. I couldn’t concentrate on anything new this week — election combined with work insanity plus family stress.
The Nanny by Gilly Macmillan (a little over the top but entertaining)
Black Widow: A Sad-Funny Journey Through Grief for People Who Normally Avoid Books with Words Like ""Journey"" in the Title by Leslie Gray Streeter (she grew up in my neighborhood so it was extra interesting to me)
The Secrets She Keeps by Michael Robotham (I watched the TV show this was based on so I thought I’d read the book. It was very faithful to the ridiculous story lol)
Gold in the Air (also seems to be called "Early Morning Riser"—it was an ARC) by Katherine Heiny (I always like her books because they are about people I feel like I actually grew up with and would be friends with, not just lawyers and doctors and soccer moms)
Women in the Kitchen: Twelve Essential Cookbook Writers Who Defined the Way We Eat, from 1661 to Today by Anne Willan (it was okay but her referring to any food that wasn’t European influenced as “ethnic” was off putting)
Hints of Heloise by Laura Lippman (I realized I had read these stories in other publications before. I do not really like her Heloise character)
QOTW: I don’t think we had any really interesting races. Everyone won who I thought would, no exciting measures or anything.

I am finishing Supper Club by Lara Williams. I like the premise and the diversity of characters, but dont love the book. The main character is annoying and the story feels really disjointed.
Getting ready to start Call Me American by Abdi Nor Niftin, which I have heard great things about and am really looking forward to.
QOTW-I am in AZ, so we just elected Mark Kelly (!), are hopefully about to go blue for the first time in decades, and passed recreational marijuana, including grow your own. Win win win!

I read Call Me American earlier this year. I loved it! Enjoy!
My reading has been shit this week. I did start Palisades Park during some slow periods Election Judging on Monday and Tuesday but haven’t picked it up since. Listening to 28 summers as I cross stictch, but not much of that happening this week.
Colorado had a really long ballot this year. We approved family paid leave and a tax cut. We vote all over the place! We also had a proposition for the reintroduction of wolves that was really close for quite awhile. Got called in favor of it.

I started "Leaving Time" by Jodi Picolt, it's so good through immersion reading! I'm also slowly chipping away at "Not Her Daughter".
QOTW: We had a thing about car repair. It was so confusing I don't know what outcome I wanted. Overall nationwide I'm sad that my area is so polarized I really need a social media break.
