I’m here with no advice, but also an old artisan that has the bobbing head problem. And apparently no longer goes on a slower setting... which I learned when natter went flying all over my kitchen last week
Mine had the same problems and my H was able to fix it. I would think any appliance repair shop could, too, if you don't have anyone especially handy around. No clue on the other questions.
I bake a ton and upgraded this year to #1 (same story, 11 yr old artisan tilt head). I bake an incredible amount. I love it and it's much better at kneading breads and I adore it. I got it through QVC for 329.
I got my Pro 6 qt at QVC too. Copper! They're likely to have another one featured on their December 6 KitchenAid day, unless it's a food processor or something else.

There's a screw to tighten against the head pin. Also easy to adjust the head height so the attachments don't hit the bowl. Lots of YouTube videos on it.

I got pistachio! I was very into the anniversary mixer with the ceramic hobnail bowl, but decided I wanted the lift bowl instead.

The red Queen of Hearts 100 year one? I still want it. Maybe I'll settle for the hand mixer version.
If I were to jump on the upgrade train, will my current accessories work? Like the ones that come out the front? We don’t have a food processor, so I use the slicing/grating one a lot.
Yes, all the accessories that attach to the front end are universal. We have the meat grinder, and will be able to keep that.
To update, I splurged and sprang for the KA Pro Line 7 qt. It probably is more than I "need," but this probably won't ever get upgraded again. Incidentally, if you like black or red, it's on sale right now in those colors, marked down from $629 to $574.99: ETA: $499 www.everythingkitchens.com/kitchenaid-ksm7586p-19298.html and places are selling out FAST. I guess just like flour in the spring.
I ordered it Friday (full price, with a $10 coupon code), in the sugar pearl silver color. I really wanted either white or silver, and white was sold out everywhere. Everything Kitchens was the only place I could find that had silver in stock. Black shows every fleck of flour or confectioner sugar, and red isn't my (or my house decor's) vibe. Since this beast will live on the counter, that matters to me.
Sunday night I noticed it was marked down to the current sale price, and I thought oh, it hasn't shipped yet, let me call in the morning to request a price adjustment. But by Monday AM when I went to call, the silver was sold out. And mine hadn't shipped yet! I was afraid I was headed to waitlist hell. But I got a FedEx tracking number today, so I think this is happening!
Sunday I made 4 dozen dinner rolls for TG,* and had to do it in two completely separate batches of dough in my Artisan. I will be able to do a double in the 7 qt., no problem. I cannot waiiiiit!
*I am not attending or hosting a big TG, just to be clear. Some to mail, some to swap, and a generous some to eat.
