I was not ready for Monday. I was off all last week and it went SO fast. Now that I'm back into working I'm feeling better, but I woke up very anxious about working. I think my work should just shut down until the January semester starts, at this rate. Obviously we aren't going to do that, but I think we could all use a break, especially those of us who have been working the whole time the pandemic has gone on. A lot of people who were unable to WFH were paid to sit at home while our campus was closed, and while I 100% support that they were not harmed financially and kept their jobs, I'm ready for my turn. This year has just been too much.
I bought reading glasses from Walgreens 2 weeks ago and they are falling apart. I think they are too small for my head because they are cracking on my face, which is the whole problem. But they are also really cheaply made if they break that easily! I might order a new pair online. I really could use an actual eye exam (I suspect I need glasses for real all of a sudden) but it's also not enough of an emergency that I feel like I want to do that right now with high COVID numbers. I might make an appointment for something like March.
Random plug for a cozy holiday scene, I swear my blood pressure dropped after having this on for a little while the other night: m.youtube.com/watch?v=9a9GixtqVP4

circa1978 I haven’t watched the latest season of The Crown but the podcast You’re Wrong About just did a 5 episode intensive on Diana’s life. It doesn’t sound at all like Prince Charles was into her at 16 based on the deeper analysis, however the age difference is a big issue for their relationship. She lived a really hard life with a lot of bad stuff throughout. She doesn’t always come across well or even behave well. I thought it was super interesting because a lot of Princess Diana’s life was before my time so I have no frame of reference other than Candle in the Wind. I’m glad I listened before watching the series because I now feel as though I’ve heard multiple versions of the story and can look at it more knowledgeably.
aprilsails they were engaged by the time she was 19 and she had literally just turned 20 by the time they were married so even if she was not technically underage when it started, sorry I still think it's icky. And like I said, DH is 10 years older, so it's not like I don't think that can work. But I do think she was essentially a child and it's even worse because she was so damaged and didn't get the help she needed. She could behave in just about in any way and I'd still feel sympathy for her.

I had no idea how much I needed the 4.5 days off for Thanksgiving. Thankfully this is my only full week in Dec as well. I'm down to 4, then 3.5 day weeks until January
I'm so glad giving trees are still avb. virtually. The place where I work is doing an adopt a family through Amazon, with an Amazon Smile link to give more to the fund. We're also adopting our cousin's two daughters, one toy, one dress per child. Thankfully the price of the dress went down about $3 for Cyber Monday, I'll take it!
Do we ever do giving trees/wish lists for the holidays, or is that just a teacher wish list thing?
They are replacing the carpet in the unit across the hall from me today, and it's so awful. Loud banging, terrible smell, ugh. I just lit a candle hoping that helps some.
Also, in "this is going to be a crap Monday" news, the zipper on my favorite pair of jeans broke. They are only 2 years old, and I barely wore them in 2020, so I'm extra bummed. And they no longer make that style, so now I have to figure out what style I want to try that won't break the bank.
How did it break (stop came off, teeth came off, etc)? You can have the zipper replaced if it's a total loss or you can possibly repair it yourself; they have kits at Joanns.
This is amazing! My zipper broke on my favorite fall jacket. The jacket is a cheapie army green jacket with hood from old navy but I love it. I brought it to the dry cleaners to repair and he said it wouldn't be worth it. I was so bummed and I've searched high and low for a good replacement to no avail. So I'm going to try this!! Thank you!

My unit was called into an emergency meeting.
TW and @@@@ ahead
One of my coworkers died very unexpectedly yesterday. She leaves behind a husband and five children. That was an awful call to have to be on first thing in the morning. I didn't know her well because I am new but she was so sweet.

Oh good, fingers crossed it works out! I have a hoodie I love where the zipper works but there's no pull. I need to buy one of these myself.

circa1978 I agree with you that it is all ugly and icky from beginning to end. She had a rough life and wasn’t able to grow up and make decisions for herself. She is a highly sympathetic person and did a lot of good considering the difficulties of her situation.
Also the whole the Prince has to marry a virgin concept as discussed in the podcast is absolutely horrific from beginning to end. They were forced into this situation because of perceived public perception.

I'm really sorry for your loss. My former teammate died over the weekend - he had a lot of health issues, so not totally unexpected but like your CW he was so sweet and really wonderful guy.
I took this week off months ago because I had planned to go to Florida to see my parents. HAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. I haven’t seen them since February and who knows when I will see them at this rate.
I took the week off anyway and are slowly going through the cabinets and drawers in my house and cleaning y they’re So far I’ve done my kitchen drawers and cabinets, utility, and cleaning supply closets and they look amazing.
I picked up a new phone yesterday, and have spent a crazy amount of time trying to get into gbcn. My password was saved, but it wouldn't let me log in at all yesterday, and then it worked fine today. Between gbcn, three other not saved passwords, and some random stuff, I now probably know more about this phone than I did my last one, and I had that one for several years.
We spent more time than we intended at Best Buy, transferring data from my old phone so that I could trade it in. Our carrier doesnt have the phone, and the cost +activation was a lot less there than anywhere else. Not sure if it was worth the savings though.
We saw too many people with chin masks, noses out of masks, and one woman who kept taking her mask off to talk to a salesperson, rub her nose, etc., and she kept touching things. When she left I mentioned it to someone and they went and cleaned everything where she had been.
It was all freaking me out a bit, but it did make me feel like our decision to stay home as much as we have has been a smart one...unlike our decision to go to Best Buy, even if it was supposedly at the 'slow' time of day.
Oops...that turned into a novel.
Today I am trying to finish up my Christmas shopping. It is getting more and more difficult to find pajamas for everyone, but it is the one present they open on Christmas Eve and is expected. A 40 year tradition is tough to break. Only one more person on the oot list left.
I finished watching The Crown last night and if they do another season - and it sounds like they will - I don't think I'll watch it. It felt really predatory towards the end; I felt icky watching it. I had no idea Diana was 16 when they met and he was 28, plus she was just barely 20 when they got married. How was that seen as OK? No wonder his brother Andrew thought this Epstein shit was OK. WTAF?
My H and I have a 10-year difference and it felt weird sometimes even when I was in my late 20s - we got married when I was 29. Knowing how miserable she was and how things ended it seems cruel and gross to do another season, IMO.
I still have three episodes left, but God yes, so far the Diana storyline is very squicky for me. I was always team Lady Di, but I didn't even have a clue.
Today felt really weird not getting up and heading into work. I did find 3 jobs to apply to, and touched base with a recruiter - so I'm calling that progress.
Initially I thought I would end up bored, but I got a bunch of orders for my woodworking shop! 4 orders of these tabletop trees, and 5 for a blanket wall rack! Now I need to find boxes that'll fit the blanket racks...

This was pre-Covid, but I went to Joann's to get a new zipper for DS1's coat and I must have looked helpless. The older lady who helped me took his coat and replaced it for me for free.
I mentioned sometime last week about how I've got a 2nd mass on my wrist in roughly the same spot as the one I had removed last year (just a fatty lipoma, but it was wrapped around the nerve), and I've been realizing over the past couple of days that I'm starting to lose feeling in the area. That can't be good... It's kind of numb in places and feels like it did when the nerve was healing in the months after surgery. I'm seeing my hand surgeon on Wednesday, but given the spike in Covid cases I can't imagine he's going to want to do anything about it right now.
I am worried I have freaking covid. I don't even understand how I would have caught it, I literally go nowhere. My SO has only been to the grocery store and Starbucks drive-thru. I did go to the dentist about 2 weeks ago. I've been in a funk today and just took my temperature which was right under 100. I'm usually at 97 degrees.
