It's almost 2021, so time for the yearly book club question - is there enough interest in keeping up with monthly book club discussions for the next year?
Usually the answer is yes and then I provide books to vote on taken from the Good Reads Choice Awards categories. However, I wanted to provide more options this year:
- maybe people really want others to read specific books and would like to have a thread where people suggest books, then we all vote on those books
- maybe people would rather use 'top books of 2020' lists instead of GR Choice Awards as their voting options (like this or this or this)
- maybe people would like to give it a rest this year because we have been doing this since at least 2017
- maybe people would like to do it even more often (every other week?) or less often (every other month?)
- maybe people have a suggestion I haven't listed
So let me know your thoughts! I'm happy to do whatever is the group consensus.
I said poster suggested picks but don’t feel that strongly how we get the books. I’d just like to keep it going and at the same frequency. Thank you ufcasey for doing the legwork all this time. We appreciate it! 😊

I voted in the poll. I like the top lists as a good base. I don’t mind adding in recs from board members too, but worry that makes it one less person that has read it recently to discuss (unless it is a rec based on items in a to-read list (and that’s ok too)). I like monthly.

I voted. I'd like to keep it monthly, but don't really care how we get the list of books. One of the reasons I enjoy book clubs is to read books I wouldn't pick for myself.
I like the idea of getting recommendations from people here. It’s harder for me to participate when we use the good reads list from the previous year because I usually read the book way before the book club discussion and don’t remember all of the details. I might be alone in that. I think a nice mix would be good.

I am extremely late to this conversation and know the poll has closed, but wanted to say that I do enjoy the motivation to read books I wouldn't normally read.
That said, I'd understand if ufcasey wanted a break or lower-frequency!
Ok, I think we have a good response of wanting to continue with Book Club in 2021. I'll set up some threads for people to recommend books and then I'll put together some polls that will include those books, some books from the 'best-of-2020' lists, and maybe a couple from GR Choices Award nominees. Thanks everyone for weighing in!
