I will make a plug for anything related to combating the climate crisis, but specifically, a nonprofit I love is www.streamlinkeducation.org. They offer native tree planting volunteer experiences along waterways. Their main goals are to prevent soil erosion and to purify stream water, but they’re also combating climate change, creating more robust habitats, making shade, and potentially raising property values. They promise an 85% three year survival rate, which is pretty remarkable. Small children can do it, and involving everyone gets people more invested in what is happening in the world around them. I love everything about it and we need this organization replicated a thousand times.

My little brother has a genetic condition called Angelman Syndrome. It causes all kinds of developmental delays and health conditions. At this point, he requires total care and will for the rest of his life. FAST is an all-volunteer run organization, and it’s sole mission is to find a cure. Due to the unique expression of the genetic changes, there’s a real belief that a cure, or significant treatment, is possible. Unfortunately, AS is rare, and almost all research is funded only by donation, which is why fundraising is so important for us.

It’s an org that is VERY dear to my heart, they’ve lost most of their funding this year as they are event and marathon training based.

You may be finished, but a year ago, my friend set up this organization after her daughter legally changed her name, and they realized what a barrier finances can be for trans and non-binary people who want to change their name legally but can’t afford it.
