I found out on Thanksgiving that my second cousin's husband found and brought home a 17-foot Christmas tree for their massive new house. They've bolted it to the wall. Good grief! I get anxious just thinking what an ordeal it will be of decorating and taking it down after the holidays.

wildrice - How the heck are brake lines and a battery $1500? That sounds insane. The battery should be less than $200.
Technically, it's the brake lines, new battery, a new air filter, and a fuel induction service. I think the brakes were closer to 1k and then the rest of the stuff was less. The brake line is completely rusted and leaking, so it needs to be replaced.
I am not sure if it's insane or not! It seems like car stuff always costs a ton more than I think it should, so I figured this was normal but IDK.
In the continuing saga of the fridge that wasn't, Lowes never sent me a confirmation email from our phone conversation on Tuesday. I didn't realize this until late last night so here we go. I'm not pleased. At some point I might just say screw it and buy the fridge I'm renting from Rent A Center. I started looking for a fridge in September for those keeping track. I want to pull out my hair and bang my head into a wall. It's so frustrating.
So I just got off the phone with customer service and they sent me the updated info for when, not if I need to call again in January (I'm so pessimistic at this point).
Although our fridge ended up arriving eventually and works well, we had a TON of issues with our order from Lowes this summer/fall getting one. Order getting cancelled without telling us, delivery being delayed several times, they delivered it when we were out of town (even though I had called to tell them the new delivery date didn't work for us since we weren't going to be here), then they showed up with one that was damaged, then finally we got it. It took over 2 months from start to finish. I do not recommend Lowes if you can find what you need elsewhere. I like Lowes in general but I think with supply issues this year, their inventory system just cannot accommodate.
cleo29 , I have been both outraged and confused by his request for that ridiculous amount of money per month. Does he really need 400k a month to live on?
I think only 1/4 of that is for child support. What does he need all of that money for, and why does he think that he is entitled to it? He will likely come out pretty well with community property and all, unless there was a prenup.
I would not be shocked if there was a pre-nup, especially since she was well established already and this was his second marriage. But it has not been mentioned.
I think it is an obscene amount of money per month. He has his own successful career and is living in an area that I would think is lower cost of living than LA.
If she does end up full or primary custody of their children, I would think just a settlement might be reached.
I also think that the whole, maintaining a certain level of living is silly. I am not saying one party should be completely screwed, but i think it is ok to have to adjust to changes because the situation HAS changed.
Especially when you're going from being super rich to just regular rich. It's one thing if the spouse is going to end up stuck renting a 1 bedroom apartment because of the divorce, but it sounds like he'll likely get more than enough money to live better than 99% of people regardless. You don't have to live like a successful pop star forever just because you once were married to one.

Well I already tried the locally owned appliance store (it was scheduled to come on the 12th of never) and had a bad experience with home depot. My only other choices in town are a locally owned family business that only sell used appliances and RAC. So rock meet wall. *shrug*
cjcouple, there's a Humans of New York story today about a girl with selective mutism. It reminded me of you and your son's journey and has a great ending.
Thanks! I will check it out. My son is now fully verbal. woohoo! He gave a verbal presentation via zoom earlier this week (had to memorize the preamble to the constitution and say in class) and tomorrow he has a long one, complete with slide show. I'm so proud of him. ❤

They better be doing more than the brake lines for close to $1k; like doing the actual brakes too. Brake lines shouldn't be very expensive: repairpal.com/estimator/brake-line-replacement-cost. Fuel induction service should be at most a couple of hundred bucks. And an air filter is like changing a furnace filter typically; easy and cheap. At the auto parts store they're like $10-20 so probably double that at a mechanic but it shouldn't be much to install.

And he is a successful music producer, so it is not like he is going from not earning any kind of living.
I keep getting ads for AMTRAK and their air filtration system. Do y’all think that’s any safer than flying? I would love to go see my uncle (who is like a parent) but he lives in NJ:( I just need that comfort only a parent figure can give.
So I don’t know the specific scientific answer, but that’s how me and my partner have been seeing each other the entire pandemic. Amtrak seems to be taking safety seriously.
We didn’t see each other in the beginning for over 2 months. But after that and until now we’re seeing each other. We’ve cut back trips to once a month each now that numbers are going up (before Covid it was more like weekly when neither of us were traveling for work) to decrease exposure, but so far it’s fine. Obviously it’s a calculated risk, but I haven’t heard any major outbreaks from the train. Since I ride so frequently I know the best times and cars to go that are less likely to have passengers.
They’ve cut back on seating a lot, like there’s never anyone sitting directly next to you. But every once in awhile someone is sitting behind or in front of you. If Acela trains are an option where you are they’re assigned seats and seem to have even less people since they’re more expensive, but I rarely get Acela. Everyone has also always been masked. I’ve seen people take a few sips of a drink but otherwise mask compliance has been great, no noses out or anything.
I feel much safer on the train than on the subway. If you wear a n95 or mask and a face shield I think the risk of getting covid is low.
Like everything with this pandemic it’s a risk vs benefits calculation. I think If visiting a family member is important it’s a small risk that I’m willing to take since that’s what I’ve been doing.
They're adjusting the grading policy again for this semester and next, allowing students to choose up to 3 courses to take P/F. AND you don't have to decide until AFTER you see your grade. So now, my group members are feeling a lot less pressured to make this 50% of our grade paper really good, but I don't want to take a class P/F because it feels like a cop out (for ME) but I also don't want to lose my 4.0 because my group members decided a P was good enough for them so they don't care about the actual grade, lol.
Typically a P/F class isn't figured in to your cumulative GPA. At least it's not at the University I work at - but that's relatively standard. So you could opt for a P and still keep your 4.0. At my institution a student has to have a C or better to earn a Pass.

No, I know. That's my dilemma. If I end up with a B due to this paper (this professor doesn't do + or -) and I choose to take a P instead, it will feel like a cop-out to me. But I will also be salty if this is my ONE B in my whole program and it's due to people feeling relaxed because they aren't worried about it.

I ordered a washer and dryer on July 4th. I just recently had them delivered and installed. It was so frustrating to have to haul laundry and wait so many months for delivery. I hope you get your appliance soon!!
@wanderback Your opinion means a lot on this matter. It’s a very long trip by train for me but like isabel said, it would be wonderful for my mental health to see a parent figure and go somewhere where I don’t have to adult for a little bit.
TR What is the specific topic? DH loves to nerd out and help friends with papers 😂
It's an industry and company analysis. We're doing Peloton and the fitness industry. Our one group weakness is we didn't recruit anyone who's into finance, lol. So the financial analysis is tough bc no one wants to do it so we're all doing it and trying to figure out how to put it all together cohesively. The assignment also said not to rely on outside analysts and do our own analysis, but his feedback on the draft we sent him was "use more sources" sooooo LOL

Oh I totally understand. My History of Higher Education class wiped out my 4.0 in grad school and I'm still annoyed by it because it was 100% because unfair grading. I mean it's been nearly 20 years and it still stings!
