Friday and Saturday: days 3 and 4 of my current lifting routine.
Sunday: a short 12 mile skate at a slow, steady pace. Had to cut my miles back again due to AT pain after my hike last week. So frustrating! It's taken me all year to get back up to almost 20 miles. Achilles tendonitis is the damn devil!
Fri - ran 3.6 mi Sat - ran family 5k through the neighborhood Sun - ran a quiet, crisp 3 mi with beautiful colors at dusk, and it was December perfection 🙂
@peep Do you race at all or do any big skating events? I have quite a few friends that have done Athens to Atlanta here in GA.
I just started racing 4 years ago, and have been surprised both by how much I love it and how well I've done. I've never done A2A, which is an insane 80+ mile race, but many of my friends have.
I've done a few marathons- North Shore and Saguaro Sunrise, which is local to me and the toughest course in the country. It is brutal. I've done several halfs, which I much prefer and really excel in, usually making podium. Speed skates are built for speed, not comfort, and every mile over 20 is just torture to me!
I was supposed to do Bear Creek in TX this fall, but passed due to Covid. Apostle Island in WI is on my bucket list, as is the Berlin marathon. My favorite race is the Silver Strand in CA, which runs from Coronado Island to Imperial Beach, where there's a huge beach party at the finish line. Such a blast!
I skated for years before I started racing, and I am totally addicted to it now! I wish I had found it much earlier in life, when I was younger and the races were bigger and more frequent.
@peep Sounds like you love skating like I love biking! I love racing just to challenge myself and see how far I can push myself.
I know nothing about skating races other than what a few friends have told me.
This is me, too. I'm really only racing against myself. I am not at all competitive, which is why my love for racing has been such a surprise! We're so fortunate to have something we are so passionate about that is also so good for us!
