There are things about new construction that truly puzzle me. High on the list is why no blinds or laundry room cabinets installed? I already bought a brand new house, they can't throw those in in the deal? (I understand that sounds very privileged of me.)
My H found a locally owned window coverings company that we'll get an estimate from on Monday afternoon so at least there's that.
Where is the best place to buy cabinets from? I've looked casually online at lowes & home depot. I'd be more likely to go with lowes given the bad experiences I've had with home depot but as I'm waiting for a fridge from lowes that might arrive on the 12th of never... Is there somewhere else I'm not thinking of? I've never bought laundry room cabinets before because everywhere else I've lived came with those or a shelf already installed.
FWIW, we purposefully didn't go through the builder for them. Our choices were a wire shelf (blech) or pay extra to have the same sub as the kitchen cabinets, $$$. So I just had them do the cheapest laundry sink possible and after a year we tackled the laundry room. We added LVP, Ikea Cabinets, and a sink/faucet from amazon.
We did klearvue cabinets from Menards, since we don't have an ikea. We did them ourselves and I really like them! They come in a lot of parts, but the advantage to that is that we could easily swap out the doors and drawer fronts and have a whole new look, or just replace a damaged front. The guy at our Menards was very helpful in the planning.
Having just re-painted laundry room cabinets, I did consider ripping them out instead and adding in a cool Elfa system from Container Store. Their stuff usually goes on sale after the first of the year. We've had Elfa systems in closets, offices, etc. for a decade and have zero complaints.
I'd also consider IKEA. They are good quality for their price.
I forgot to mention my nearest IKEA is 2.5 hours and a snowy pass away. So if we end up waiting until spring I'll definitely check them out, but as their shipping is atrocious, they aren't a viable option right now.
I love IKEA. A majority of my furniture is from there. I used to live a 10 minute drive from there. I miss that.
wavepool I've only heard of Menards on gbcn so it's a safe bet that I don't live near one.

Kitchen cabinet makers can do stock custom (you can order the depth and choose different features). I haven't ordered a laundry room cabinet, but in our last house we ordered a stock custom kitchen cabinet to hang in the bathroom.

We had a local company similar to California closets come in and do our bedroom closets, pantry and laundry room. It was expensive but I’m glad we did it. No regrets.
We haven't had them installed yet (a spring project for us) but we're going with a local company that creates storage/organization - think closet and garage cabinet systems, similar to a California closets. We did a new build (2 years ago now) and they only installed one small wire rack as part of what came with the house. Also I can empathize with your frustrations re no blinds - we closed on a Friday and started partially moving in 2 weekends before Christmas 2 years ago and when I came to the house with the final delicate car load that Monday (also the day the moving truck was arriving) had found our house had been burglarized. We were flying elsewhere late in the week for Christmas, so we put up sheets over as many windows as we could and my DH quickly bought a ton of cameras (they stole the ones we were planning on installing) to put up. We just had not at all thought we should get the blinds that weekend since we planned to put up the cameras before we left and didn't have any neighbors houses built yet, but the police basically said we should have thought of that first thing. So we learned something in a hard way.
we did in stock shaker cabinets from lowes and have been very happy with them. they are basic, but our builder options to upgrade were honestly ugly so we decided to wait and do it ourselves.

For the OP, I highly recommend those stick-on paper blinds you can get at big box stores as a temporary solution. They are super-cheap (about $5 each looks like -- I think I got a pack of 5), just stick to the top of the windowsill like a post-it, and are opaque. They served us well for the several months it took for our custom blinds to arrive. I didn't know they existed before then, so I'm sharing the knowledge!

Thanks for posting this! We have been stuck on what to get for our dining room window, and wanted to wait until we finished the kitchen, but the afternoon sun (full western exposure) kills us.
Did they come unstuck easily when you took them down?

Oh, yeah, they are totally like post-its. Didn't leave any adhesive residue or anything, and came off immediately.
pearls I'm so sorry that happened! How nice of the police to blame the victims for their misfortune. *sarcasm* We still don't have window coverings. H wants roller shades and we're going through a locally owned business to get them.
Thanks for the recc dr.girlfriend. I'll definitely look into that. In the mornings the sun coming through our kitchen window about blinds us.

Here's a photo, although you can't really see them that well!
Ikea here too but I'm guessing Lowe's/HD would be fairly similar. The best thing we did was to skip the pedestals and get a custom dept formica counter piece made for over the front load W/D for folding.

I have top loading. If I had front loading I'd totally do that though. It sounds amazing.
