Has anyone noticed the new Shutterfly update for phonebooks where you can't add more graphics? You now have to select one style and only use the graphics that are included with that. What a damn shame! That ticks me off. I usually just select any free style and then add more backgrounds and graphics for seasons/holidays/events.
Anyone use any other service for photo books? I've been doing Shutterfly for literally a decade, but this latest update is awful. I want pumpkins on my halloween pages, damn it!
WHAT?! I am not happy about this. I have done a photo yearbook with Shutterfly every year since 2008 with additional books for major vacations. I spend hours and hours on it each year in January. I haven’t started this year’s book yet and I am pissed to hear this. I spend so much time picking out baseball graphics for my son’s baseball pages, pumpkins for Halloween etc. Crap.
I was working on mine today. I picked a free theme but I could still search for and add embellishments/stickers like usual. Not different full page background but could still add pumpkins, baseballs, etc.
I opened an old photobook and was able to use the old software and add embellishments, backgrounds, everything I wanted.
When I started a brand new photobook, those options were not available anymore. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot, but I've spent more time on this than I'll admit.
jaycee, have you tried from the advanced editing page? I just went in and started a new book and could search/add embellishments. I always work from the advanced editing so I can adjust the layouts.
icedcoffee I am super critical of all my scrapbooks/albums, but all anyone cares about is that I have them to look at. I think we're all our own worst critic.

Crap! I hope not! When I started my book last week, it gave me the option to use the new interface or old. I started with the new one and noticed it was less customizable, so I stopped and went back to the old software. I really hope they don't get rid of it!!!! The main reason I use Shutterfly is because of the advanced editing and being able to fully customize the pages. Where can I complain so they don't lose it?!?
I really better finish and order my old books ASAP.
I don't mean to make you rush. I just tried customer service and their chat and they told me to switch between the old (one that I like) and the new software. I couldn't find the button (I swear I'm not an idiot - it wasn't there!) and so they did it on their end. So to add embellishments you must use the old software.

I use Blurb exclusively. But I enjoy the design part and have made my own page layouts which I save so I can reuse them easily. I also used to be a professional photographer and still use a dslr on trips to take photos. I use Adobe Lightroom to organize my photos. It helps me because when I import I can easily delete duplicates or pictures I don't like as much. Then I use keywords to indicate which photos I want to put in a particular book. With a smart collection, I collect all photos with a specific tag and export them to a new folder which I then use to import into Blurb BookWright. It's a bit more trouble, but I have the process down after years of use. If you are interested in seeing a sample, you can DM me. I am on their email list and usually wait until the books are 40% off before I order.
icedcoffee , have you ordered your book yet? I can't decide if I should order it now or wait for a better sale. It's 55 pages and currently $93. Ouch.
I'm waiting for a free pages sale. Mines currently $110. Eeek. With free pages I'm thinking it will be around $75. Still much more than I was anticipating for a damn book.
I still haven't decided if I should take the layflat out. That's $$$.

I’ve done the lay flat pages on two books but normally don’t. To me it’s not worth the money. It was cool to try it out on some vacation photo spreads but for my normal year in review books, ehh.

So should I rearrange the pages that have a spread on them so they don't cross pages? Or just print them without lay flat?

I regularly print without the flat layout option and I have never regretted it. I just don’t let it bother me when pictures are across the seam.

I've printed non-layflat books with spreads and they have been fine. They are usually landscapes. As a previous poster said, I'd adjust so there aren't any faces in the seam. I'm also debating the layflat pages. I've never done them before, so I really wanted to try it. For all the work I put it, I might just spring for the extra $25. Ugh, I"m so impatient but I should probably wait for the free pages sale too since that's the bulk of the cost.
If anyone sees it, can you please post about it so I don't miss it? Thx!

I’m way behind on this. I’ve used Shutterfly a lot. My tip is to make a book or a few, save them as projects and wait for a sale to buy them. Download the app too. When we everything in a flood, including one external hard drive, I was able to reprint some of the books I had made, and download photos that were saved there!

I DID IT!!! 2019 and 2018 have been ordered. I went with standard binding so it came to $30 per book. They are far from perfect, but they are done! Thank you everyone for your help.
I plan to start on 2017 next and work on 2020 on a monthly basis. If I can get 2017 and 2016 done before next January I will feel good.
icedcoffee , awesome! I ordered my 2020 book today and I’m so happy! I splurged a bit on it, but it is the first photo book I’ve actually completed since having kids so it will be worth it! I’m going to try to start a system of uploading photos each month this year to make it easier for next year. I need to finish the 2 kids baby books (which I started but never finished). Getting those done will assuage so much mom guilt! 😂 I credit the moral support from this post for motivating me to finish this one. So thx!

Baby books are on my list too. I think I left off when DS2 was 6 months so. It terrible but needs to get going. Thanks for the reminder!
