Do you set New Year's Resolutions or H&F Goals? Is there anything you want to accomplish in 2021? A race-in person or virtual? A PR? A new healthy habit?
With so much uncertainty about my health and if I'll ever be able to get back to the level of cycling I was at before 2020, I'd like to continue to try to ride longer distances up to 3.5-4 hours. The Ebike has made it much more fun. I've always been a short 3 hour ride and short hour or so interval session kind of person, but I'm thinking about doing some more endurance riding. It will be limited by how long the battery will last (seriously!).
As for racing I'll do our fall cyclocross series. There are several people with health issues that race; the nice thing about local CX is that you can "race" at your own pace and push yourself as hard as you can.
I'd also like to do a couple of local gravel events as a participant only-not a racer-if they will allow Ebikes.
My one immediate goal is to clean up my diet. It's been not the greatest since surgery; not horrible just not great. Starting Sunday the holiday treats are gone from the house. I'm also going to cook in more.
I had so many specific goals last year that were derailed by Covid: complete bikini competition prep, hit 300# on hip thrusts, do an unassisted pullup, win or at least make podium in certain races. I've decided to let those types of goals go this year. If I keep doing what I'm doing, those things will happen eventually.
Instead, I've decided to focus something I can actually control regardless of Covid: my diet. Specifically, my resolution is to maintain 80% accuracy with my dietary goals of 1550-1650 calories and 120 grams of protein/day. I have A LOT of room for improvement here and this is what will pay the biggest dividends for me right now.
Goals are about the same as last year: Work out more days than not Try to run at least two half marathons Cut back on sugar (I say munching on Skittles and sipping Moscato, but it is NYE 😉) Lift more Lose a little weight (5-10 lbs) Donate blood

I'd like to run at least 1 in person race. No marathons this year, but there's a local half in October that I ran in 2020, so hopefully it'll be a go for 2021.
I need to add strength in to my fitness routine. I like cardio so much more, so I make all the excuses to skip strength. 2021 is the year that I stop the excuses.
Keep up my base level fitness so I can run a marathon in 2022.
Cut back on my wine consumption. I know my drinking ramped up in 2020, and I'd like to cut back a little.
Continue to expand our "go to" meals and add more fruits/veggies. This is one of my H's goals, so it should be fairly easy to accomplish with both of us on board.
I'm trying not to plan too far into the future this year. I really missed (and still do) the gym but feel good about what I was able to maintain/achieve at home. I will keep doing my current routine which is cycle/run 3-4 days a week, strength 3 days a week.
2021:
- I am going to track my running and cycling miles. I don't have a goal, just want to see what I do in my normal routine. I know people get tired of hearing about Peloton, but I do find the app motivating in that there are little challenges and yearly minutes tracked. Last year I got 6k minutes from July-December, and I want to hit 10k next year.
- Also need to be more mindful of the wine! I've never been big into tea, but I've found a few herbal teas I like at night that I have started to reach for instead of a glass of wine. Just need to do it more now.
My exercise goals have been derailed as well, my injury is still playing up from time to time, and I am hesitant to set new goals. But... I am aiming for 4 days a week of running/biking and 1 day of hiking. We shall see about mileage and races. I am also going to cut back on the carbs & wine a bit though.
I also need to be more mindful of wine. My consumption ramped to an unhealthy level in 2020 and I'm doing dry January as a reset. Related, lose at least 10lbs of the 15lbs I've put on during Covid.
I want to sign up and run a virtual 5K, 10K, and half with the following goals:
5K: sub-25 10K: sub-55 Half marathon: sub-2 hour
I'd also like to make track workouts a priority, but being realistic I'm aiming for 2 per month.
If it looks like fall marathons might actually happen, I'd like to make that work too.
