I had a headache late yesterday afternoon and it was still present this morning. I'd read that headache is a common symptom of COVID. So I stayed home, insisted DD stay home, and I got a COVID test this morning. Have to wait 1-3 days for results. Not really feeling bad otherwise, but now my whole week is thrown off.
k3am, they were supposed to be anonymous. But I assume he was bothered by the feedback and asked management who it was so he could address it.
On the one hand, it was awkward, but on the other hand, I think that's the whole point of peer reviews - for someone to point out how your style might be perceived. I've had dinner with this guy's family before and know he has good intent, so felt comfortable providing that feedback.
I've also been on the receiving end of surprising feedback and was glad a member of management was willing to tell me who wrote it. I go out of my way to involve my analysts in the decision making process as a training tool, but apparently this analyst perceived that as me being indecisive. I never addressed it with her, but was more careful about my interaction with her this past year, and I didn't get anymore negative feedback on that issue, so I guess she thought it improved.
Providing names for supposedly anonymous feedback could definitely be a slippery slope though! We have to write like 40 peer reviews a year, so I forgot I even wrote that
Sorry vasc ! I saw one matrix that I thought was helpful in that it differentiated between "primary symptoms" and "secondary symptoms." Using this framework, if a parent has a headache, it says only get tested if a doctor recommends it, and kids can still go to school. But it always can't hurt to be more conservative if you're able. I hope you get your results back soon!
It was in Emily Oster's newsletter. I love her. I can't get it to copy just the chart, but if anyone is curious you can scroll down in this link.
I've been advocating for my team. We create all of the processes and another department performs them which hasn't been working because they don't follow procedure and then our team has to fix the issues. We haven't seen improvement because that department reports to a different VP who has no training or knowledge behind the processes. After some tense meetings, the CEO and VPs of that other department have agreed to change our reporting structure and they will all now report to me. This definitely increases my responsibility but I'm not sure if I should ask for a raise now or wait until June with the annual raises. The VPs that are skeptical are going to be watching for any missteps to take the department back so they can continue to go rogue with processes. Does it also look poor that as soon as I got them to agree, I want more money? I firmly believe it's the right move but I don't want them to change their mind because it's going to cost more to operate by moving it to my department. At the same time, I don't want to be taken advantage of...This will add 20 people to my department and oversight.
I also need to add how the meeting yesterday went with our C Suite. I was very direct and didn't back down while the VPs of that other department couldn't offer a reason to not change anything besides they liked how it currently was structured. I'm in a director level role for reference and my boss has given me feedback in the past that the executive group doesn't understand how direct I really am and I need to be more direct in meetings with them. The CEO at one point goes, you guys need to stop pulling a Donny Trump and give an actual reason or evidence to keep it the way it is because right now, I'm leaning towards moving them all to mellym. I was so nervous heading into the meeting so it was amazing. The VP of HR was there and he told me afterwards that I did great and it was really fun to watch me. I think he was referring to me growing as a leader and standing up to all the men in the room. I found out today that they all agreed to move them. It feels like such a huge win!
mellym, that’s AWESOME! I would bring it up now to your boss. That’s a lot more people and responsibility. If the answer now is no, say you’ll bring it up again in June so you can decide if you’re proving your worth.

Thanks for the link. Since DD attends the school where I work, 40 minutes away, I thought it was prudent that she stay home today with me (and as long as I wait results) rather than send her. Honestly, she needs a reality check that staying home isn’t all fun and games. We’ve been in F2F school since the year started and hearing all the virtual stories y’all post would hopefully make her feel gratitude for the chance to be in person.
She found the report card. No admission that she forgot to send it, but whatever. She has 2's (highest grade you can get) and E's for qualitive items. So no real value to it since apparently almost everyone in the class is 2's.
k3am, We got all 3s which means at grade level and a note saying "thanks for participating in class". This meant nothing to me. The assignments that have been graded are all 2/4 or 3/6 which to me doesn't mean you are at grade level. Normal year teachers say they want kids to be a 3 by the end of the year.
Question to those of you who are at work. Does looking through plexiglass give you a headache? We just installed plexiglass at our front counter at work and I've got the worse headache today from talking with clients through the plexiglass. Today was the 1st day we've had clients dropping papers off in office. I wear glasses and it is super clear to the glass and then distorted on the other side so don't know if that makes a difference or not.
186momx, at least you have graded assignments? Most of her assignments are either worth 0 points or tests worth 5 points that haven't been graded (and that we can't grade for her).
