It’s my last week at my old job. New job starts Tuesday. They are shipping my IT equipment to me this week so I can get all set up and ready to rock Tuesday morning. I also have to go in to my old office this week to clean out 12 years of stuff and bring all my personal belongings home. I have a substantial amount of stuff, so I’m not looking forward to that part.

Similarly, I have to go to my office to move into my former boss’ office. I’ve been putting that off since last spring but the company wants my cube back.
It is Monday. I have lots of emails. DD2 didn’t want to go to school, DD1 doesn’t want to go to her streaming English lesson and, similarly, I didn’t really want to go to work. And yet here we all are!
It’s gorgeous out, clear and cool. We had a lovely weekend of bumming around the yard and last night I spontaneously cleaned all my cabinets out and they’re so organized now.
mommyatty - good luck!! I was surprisingly emotional when I cleaned out my office. I was ready to go and I knew I wanted to go... but I was still sad.
Today was very Monday. I woke up at 430am and tried to go back to sleep for an hour. Finally gave up at 530. I wanted to work out but DH usually starts around 545 and I didn’t want to get in his way. Turns out he didn’t sleep either and never got up to work out. I didn’t know because he was in the guest room at the other end of the house. But despite my early wake up, I was in a good mood. DD1 was too - woke herself up 39 mins early so no fighting about getting ready.
DH and DD2 though... woah. Super grumpy. So I’m doing my best to avoid them. 😬
Speaking of avoiding... one of my clients offered to do a fundraiser with my kids school - order from them with a coupon code and school would get 10% of the purchase amount back. So they got a ton of new orders and school got some donations. Except... no one from the client will call me back about delivering the check. It’s not much - just a few hundred - so what’s the problem?? And the PTO officers are all over me. Super frustrating.
I got the new furniture all put together this weekend in the girls' room! Also donated 5 bags of clothes and stuff from my room and theirs to Goodwill and listed a ton of toys on the town freecycle group to clear them out. Tonight I'll finish organizing their room and putting all the toys away in their new homes. I'm sure I'll uncover more that can be given away/donated as I do that. They're big time hoarders, so this is an amazing clean out for their room.
The rest of the house looks like a tornado blew through, there are two random boxsprings in the living room and laundry everywhere that I have to deal with. But hopefully I can get all of that taken care of tonight.
That is the one benefit of how both companies have worked.. I have never sat in the same desk for more than a couple years. I can have every personal item I own boxed up and ready to go in under an hour, probably closer to 20 minutes.
We are... on the verge of breaking down and getting a puppy. DH has always been the hold out, but even he's starting to come around to the idea.
k3am - we are scheduled to pick up our quarantine puppy on Friday. I have never had a dog and I feel entirely unprepared but very excited. Kids don’t know.

Beau and got to go riding on Saturday. It was a beautiful day and I was able to bundle up enough to stay warm even though it was in the 30's. We did some trail riding and a lot of logging road time which was good since I was rusty from not riding since October. We then babysat his two year old grandson.
Also.. we are gearing up to start processing the next round of PPP. Hold me. I am not looking forward to it. We BARELY survived getting through the first round, and that was when I had my prior coworker up and running fulltime, and PPP/SBA loans are were her jam. I'm really worried about how this will go now that it will 100% fall on me.
k3am - we are getting a Cobberdog/Australian Labradoodle. I have allergies and as long as they’re not biting, they don’t really bother me. Little puppy teeth cause a reaction but it’s not severe and that’s a temporary phase.
My cousins have had 3 bulldogs between them - the cutest.
mae0111, k3am, I keep perusing Petfinder, as if I'm really going to add a dog to the chaos of my life. We keep telling the kids that a pet discussion is for "the new house." But some of those puppers are just so cute and need homes now...
mae0111, I've been looking at goldendoodles. DH is adamant about not doing a rescue/adoption due to unknown history, so I figure if I can get a non-shedder, I'm on board.
DD really wants a dog. She's been cleaning up the neighbors dog poop at their houses just to prove that she's willing to do it if we get her one. It's ridiculously cute.

Ugh. Good luck! Beau is STILL fighting and dealing with paperwork from the first round. They made him resend some stuff last week because he had to print it and specifically highlight something, scan it in, and send it back. Even though he had already provided all the info previously, it wasn't highlighted I guess?
k3am - DH has always had goldens and really wanted a golden doodle, but their coats can be too unstable for me. I love Goldens so much but I’m so swollen and sneezy around them. I would never be able to rehome a dog because of my own discomfort, so I pushed for the labradoodle. I do love the golden doodles though.
I will report back after a week of puppy things and let you all know if this decision proves my insanity.
twinmomma, we haven't even gotten through forgiveness of the first round. Every time we think we've met all their hoops, SBA releases different guidance and it's back to square one. It's so frustrating for customers and even more frustrating for us (since we're the middlemen who have to share the bad news).
And the whole banking world operates in the dark ages, where wet ink signatures (print, sign, scan, send pdf, and follow up with an original via post) are still a requirement. It drives me batty. The whole entire world accepts docusign, let's hop on that bus.

k3am, I can box up my area quickly but former boss was in that office for decades and was a bit of a pack rat. She “cleaned it out” but suspect I need to do so a second and time and give it a good dusting at the very least.

mae0111, good luck! I'm jealous of anyone with a doodle. I have had two poodles and wanted either a poodle or a doodle but H was adamant about NOT getting a dog from a breeder for sanctimonious reasons. I mean, I get it absolutely but it was annoying because its impossible to rescue a doodle or a poodle right now. The waitlist to get a doodle was super long to begin with! So we got a mutt from a rescue place...her DNA test should come back in a few weeks because I wanted to know more about what she is and because I'm a big geek!
Dogs in general can be such a cool, fun thing no matter where you get them from so congratulations!
mommyatty, are you going to start remotely? I'm so interested in how the onboarding is going to go for you. I've got my new guy up and running now but its really crummy from a welcoming perspective here. I'm including him on all the meetings I can think of just so he can see people virtually. He just went to lunch with our CFO though and I was like...I don't like that. not going to tell him not to because it is our CFO, but I don't like the idea of them sitting at a table without a mask eating lunch together because PANDEMIC.
mustardseed2007, yes. They have had a lot of remote employees, so they have this down pat. And I’ve been a client of this company/team, so I already know a lot of the players. Then my on-boarding mentor is giving me a list of people to set up Teams meetings with over the first several weeks.
I had my niece and nephew all weekend and I'm exhausted after two days with 5 young kids in our house. I'm happy to be in the office today in the quiet.
First day of hybrid and it was an in-person day. After much nagging to get moving, the girls made it on the bus and it felt like old times.
Weekend was fine. Saturday was a day full of update tax class (6hrs). Small issues with zoom so we started 20 minutes late but they got things figured out and we still got done at 4. It went really well for a 531 attendee zoom. I did class from my bed and both DD and the dog hung with me most of the day. DH kept himself outside because he just couldn't not bother me. Sunday was chores, laundry, and a virtual paint class. It was very fun. Through Joanne Fabrics and only cost $10 plus supplies which we had most of. I signed DD up for one on the 18th that is free for MLK day. It will give her something fun to do in the afternoon.
k3am, I feel you on PPP. I've had 3 phone calls about it today so far. I'm annoyed at the one client because his business is making money during the pandemic. He didn't do the 1st set of PPPs so no restrictions on this one but it just makes me think he is being unethical because hey he doesn't need it and making hand over fist way more $$$.
186momx, he may be excluded based on his revenues then. He needs to have a 25% quarterly revenue decrease compared to prior year. I'm actually going through my portfolio today, and it looks like the majority of my clients who qualified the first time won't be eligible this round because they're either public companies or don't meet the 25% revenue reduction.
mellym, DS hasn't been to school in person in a year. Today was his first day, and he was already bullying his sister at the bus stop. I yelled across the street and didn't care that the whole neighborhood heard me. He made me so mad because he totally pushed her down backpack and all. He couldn't have even waited 2 weeks before he starts his crappy behavior?
We totally would have gotten a quarantine dog by now if we didn't have a relatively new baby. I'm saving the puppy for when I get really sad about my last baby growing up.
We had to wake all 3 older kids up today to get them moving. Whey doesn't that ever happen on weekends? Then normally easygoing DS2 had a complete meltdown because he wanted to wear his puffy jacket and also strap himself into his car seat, and the straps didn't fit over the jacket. So we were on the side of the road adjusting while he was screaming.
Overall it was a good weekend. Our little boat ride was fun, and we had our babysitter come at 7 pm Saturday, right after I put the baby down. DH and I got take out, including a giant margarita for me, and went to my parents' empty condo nearby. It was super amazing to not put the older kids to bed for a night.
I also started planning travel for 2021. I figure everything is changeable/refundable. I want something to look forward to, and I also think travel may get busy with pent-up demand once more people are vaccinated. So I booked a trip to see East coast family in August, and a trip to Hawaii for fall break. And both former pod families decided to go on the Hawaii trip, too!
sdlaura, I'd like to plan travel, but I guess I am not sure where to even go. I was thinking about Canada this summer, but who knows if the border would be open....
Last year, we were supposed to do Nashville for spring break, and I was just going to rebook the same place, but Nashville has had a lot of crazy things happening that I am not sure if I want to go anymore.
Any suggestions driving from the Midwest? I don't plan on flying until we are vaccinated.
waverly I'm not much help since I've spent all my time on the coasts/in new england. My sister in Maryland did recently mention that her family goes to a resort called Nemacolin in Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, and really likes it. Looks like that's 8 hours from Chicago. Not sure if it's enough of a destination for that long of a trip, though!
I hope that we're vaccinated by late summer, but if not, we flew this summer and felt generally ok about it. During a time period when cases were much lower here and at our destination. So I could foresee a scenario where DH and I aren't vaccinated yet, but all older people and vulnerable people are, and therefore cases are way lower, and there's plenty of hospital space/ever improving treatments, and then we might still feel comfortable flying. We'll have to see when we get there....
Random what would you do question: I get to choose my anniversary gift this week at work. I'm kind of torn since I don't really need anything they're offering, so might go with the charity donation. *poof*
twinmomma, assuming you choose one of the gifts and not the charity donation, I'd probably pick the iPad, even at the risk of my kids fighting over it. My DD is the same age as yours are, I think, and she loves my old ipad for web surfing/youtube/facebook messenger.
sdlaura, That was my thought, but they both have Kindle tablets already. I know the iPad could in theory do a lot more, but do we really need yet ANOTHER piece of random screen technology around here?
twinmomma, I got noise canceling headphones for Christmas and love that it helps to drown out the kids when I want to listen to my book or podcasts.
sdlaura, we booked a trip to Hawaii in late summer with our best friends. We are both celebrating wedding anniversaries and take an adults only trip every 5 years with them. We will need to compare notes! I hear they're very strict about entry on the island due to covid so hoping we have a vaccine by then and don't have to worry about it.
