I am about to work with Lowe's to do a wall of built-in cabinetry for our home office. The room is a blank slate 12' x 12'. I thought I'd check here to see if anyone who has redone a home office has tips or advice for features to include or things to skip. So far I just have a basic idea of our storage needs: file space, book storage, printer/cricut space, pencil drawer, pull out trash, and I want to have a dedicated zoom wall/backdrop space. Anything I'm missing?
We just moved into a brand new construction house last month.
My H is fully remote and totally redid his office from scratch. He loves his new desk which has the entire surface as all mouse pad. It also has a 'basket' on the underside for cables and such. It's technically a gaming desk.
There are no books in his office, but he got storage cubes from Lowes that are in his office closet. So those store most of his stuff. In the room he has one small bookshelf that holds the router etc. On another wall he has 3 floating shelves that hold his display items (sentimental stuff, bobble heads etc). He also has one plant in there and a cat tree. We turned an ottoman into our filing 'cabinet' years ago so that's in there as well. The wall behind his desk is blank for zoom purposes.

Ohhhhh...I forgot I need a spot to contain the router "stuff". Thank you for sparking this!
I have really enjoyed having my desk perpendicular to the wall instead of parallel. I feel more like I'm at a workstation, probably because my cubicle desks have always been L-shaped. It also allows for me to keep cabinets to the side with things like gum, tea, post its, etc. and have plenty of knee space.
Following.... I want to redo our office space next, though I was planning on treating it a bit more like a workspace for crafts too (i.e., use a butcher block counter across deep drawers). Possibly make the desk counter height too.
