I made sure that everyone's Biden/Harris shirt went into the wash yesterday--that felt huge. Like, we're going to need them this week to celebrate the inauguration. THIS WEEK!
No link, but NPR was talking this morning how Senate has failed to approve any cabinet members yet. Usually by this time there are already several in place.

When is the whole new Senate sworn in and at work?

Why is this? The senate has been out of session, right? Just wondering if it’s nefarious Republican shit or just a result of the mess that’s been going on for the last week and a half.

An external threat under the bridge causing the Capitol complex to go under lockdown. Those inside are warned to stay away from windows and doors, those outside should seek cover.

They have confirmed it's because of a fire at a homeless encampment over on H street, and not a threat.
I’m so nervous for this week. Not being a ball of excitement and energy makes me feel almost guilty, which makes me all the more stressed.
I’m making plans to celebrate on Wednesday, but I’m nowhere near that headspace.
I’ve also already seen a whitewashed Dr. King post and a bunch of comments about how “MLK wouldn’t want us to judge each other!”
I'm following Jose Andres' call to support local restaurants on Inauguration Day and planning on getting Peruvian rotisserie for take out dinner. I also want an ice cream cake (we got a gift card for a local custard chain for Christmas). My husband thinks it's borrowing trouble but I figure my plans work well for celebrating and stress eating.

I love Jose Andres and saw this tweet as well! We'll do the same here in Buffalo - gonna start the day with breakfast sandwiches and order from our favorite grilled cheese place for dinner :-)

I saw something that said several are scheduled tomorrow and Buttigeig is schedule for Thursday (and I thought it was strange it was so late).
Watching armed assholes stroll around at state capitols really sets me on fire. What kind of sad little chickenshits can't go out without a weapon. It must suck to be that afraid of the entire world.
I assumed they were waiting on Warnock and Ossoff to get there before considering nominations.
That was my thought, too. With both in office I can't see any of the cabinet noms not voted in. With a Republican senate I could see sever failed nominations.
Two things, first, why are they giving this terrorist so much airtime? And letting her plead her case for a pardon? And, second, I’m glad she says she’s never voting again. At least that’s one potentially positive thing in this mess.
My brain is still trying to process this article. It sounds like I'd she did take a laptop or hard drive, she has not been able to get it to anyone in Russia yet. Another article I read about this said that family thinks she might be on the run and that she's changed her number, etc. No idea if any of that is true, since that was a local source and read as very speculative even in their article.

I've been working on my menu for Inauguration Day too for the same reasons! Why not? Win-wn!
Fewer than 48 hours of a 45** presidency. I can’t believe we are finally here. My Biden/Harris shirt is ready to go on Wednesday. We are ordering Indian takeout that night. I’m going to bake a cake tomorrow for it.
@@@ Anyone having their young kids watch? Up until Jan 6, I was adamant about keeping them home from school to watch. Now I am nervous about something happening and having the kids see it live. H wants to record it and have them watch later. Thoughts?

My kids are home Wednesdays (virtual learning day) and I would have for sure had them watch when I thought things would be normal but mine are young (10, 6, and 3) and very sensitive so if - God forbid - a tragedy were to happen on live TV I’m not sure how they would handle it. I think we will watch footage of the swearing ins and speeches later in the day.

Right? I am probably more supportive of 2nd Amendmemt rights than most here, but everytime I see that I just can't believe it. Why, in a country with regular mass shootings, is that okay? And why do they need to be armed to the teeth to protest at a state or federal building? What do they think is going to happen? Can you imagine if the social and racial justice protestors this summer were armed like that?
The embattled director of the U.S. Census Bureau is resigning in the wake of allegations that he had supported a partisan push to deliver data to Trump before the president leaves office.

@@ I went looking earlier for a schedule for Wednesday and there’s a segment produced by Nickelodeon the hour before the inauguration. Might be a good way to include kids without risking them seeing something you may not want them to see.
Googling again just now says it will include a segment on presidential pets.
“To mark Joe Biden's inauguration, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) has announced that it is hosting Our White House: An Inaugural Celebration for Young Americans, a first-ever curated livestream for young Americans before and during the Inaugural Ceremonies, which will feature a special segment on presidential pets produced by Nickelodeon.
Our White House: An Inaugural Celebration for Young Americans will air on the day of the U.S.'s 59th presidential inauguration, Wednesday, January 20 between 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. EST”

Do you know if there is a way to watch this if you don’t have cable?
Answering my own question - there sure is!!
Our White House: An Inaugural Celebration for Young Americans will also stream at BidenInaugural.org/youth and PIC’s YouTube channel; broadcasted by Nickelodeon and Discovery Education and steamed via their websites, apps, and social media platforms; steamed online by PBS NewsHour, Amazon Prime Video, and on ABC Owned Television Stations’ 32 connected TV Apps across Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku; and a Spanish-language broadcast will also air on Discovery Familia later on January 2
