rubytue we are allowed days to do that. You have been through a lot! I have done that, I kinda just did right above you lol. Sometimes it's needed to just get it out. I don't think you are always in that space. 😊
I have a new coworker named Dawn. We have regular department meetings via Zoom where her name is mentioned (she’s in a different department so she’s usually not on those calls but people often say “oh, get in contact with Dawn about XYZ”).
I’m the only one on these calls with a thick Jersey accent, so I keep wondering who this “Don” person is they’re all talking about.
Saudade, I kind pushed my luck and looked at what I generally knew, and had coffee at 7am. Just to have some functioning caffeine. Of course everything was running late, as would be expected with a 2:30 pm scheduled surgery (so, what, 4th in the room of the day?). I actually was taken back after 5. Which means my 7am coffee www perfectly OK 🙄
Oh the plus not 1) every tv was on the coverage 💗💗 2) this was my best anesthesia ever. I was awake and discussing politics at 6:30, in the recovery room. And dressed to leave by 7:30. Home now, and don’t even feel the need for my usual 2 hour nap.
A peer at work is leaving for a promotion with another agency. My first emotion is disappointment. She's been here just over 2 years and it's hard to show a lot of work accomplishments in that time. Also, I'm being tasked with taking over her staff until replaced, which fucking sux because I have my own staff.
I wish her all the best in her next endeavor. Although apparently no one knows because my boss just found out last night. That was a fun morning check-in.
Funny coming on the heels of the tiny house thread.... MH wants to build a detached garage. He wants to be able to set up an actual woodshop with a tablesaw and a nice worksurface rather than having to schlep things in and out of the basement to work outside on sawhorses or set up in our little basement storage area with limited space to work. But because he's him, he doesn't want just a nice little normal sized garage. Oh no, he wants the biggest damn garage he can fit on the site without eating into requried setbacks or taking over the entire backyard. And he wants a separate small shed around the back of it for the lawn stuff so that the garage can be basically 100% hobby space (woodshop, bikes, beer brewing, etc).
he realized yesterday that we're limited as per zoning code to less than 600SF of detached structures on our lot, measured at the roofline, not floor area, so inclusive of any roof overhang. That's about the size of a typical two car garage, so his desired oversized garage is over that, and the extra shed would be a definite no.
Did this make him rethink his plan for a GIANT garage? nope. of course not. Now he wants to explore either getting a zoning variance or making the garage attached because then there's no size limit beyond overall lot coverage/setbacks.
JUST BUILD A NORMAL SIZED GARAGE FOR FUCKS SAKE YOU INFURIATING MAN. I have made this suggestion many times to solve other garage related obstacles (cost, tree impacts, grading issues), but he's stubbornly stuck with figuring out how to make what he wants work here. i thought maybe this would be the final thing needed to tip him into "oh ok, I guess a normal two car garage will work" but naaaaaaah.

We just moved to a new place and things are *everywhere* and my anxiety is ramping up. Between the piles and boxes, the inauguration, and trying to register for the vaccine, my productivity has taken a hit this week.
Our new place is in the delivery area of one of DH’s favorite pizza places. They make this white pizza that he loves and talks about any time we talk about pizza, but it was too far from our previous place. The pizza is okay, but I’m not a huge fan, which he knows. I volunteered to order pizza yesterday because our kitchen is a mess, and I surprised him with his favorite white pizza. He was so excited and incredibly appreciative.
Then he checked out what I’d ordered for me (pizza with bacon and green olives), decided that was amazing (of course it was, because I ordered it) and went after my pizza. Eat your own damn pizza and leave mine alone!

Ugh. I have anger issues from childhood with this. Growing up we would usually get pizza on Friday. We would order one with a bunch of shit that my parents liked, and one with pepperoni and something for me and my brother, but of course my mom and dad liked either.
So I would go for leftovers and there would always only be the shit pizza left. And my parents would all be “🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻“ it made me so angry, I still get annoyed.
rubytue it’s possible to regain sensation much further down the road. My friend has nerve damage in his leg and foot from a spinal injury/surgery six years ago (that he was told would be permanent), and is still continuing to regain sensation. PT, yoga, Rolfing, and acupuncture have all been helpful for him.
Has anyone read The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd?
It's my Feb. book club book and I can't get it from the library and I'm trying to decide if it's worth dropping cash on.
I have. I loved it. I could send it to you if you want?
Thanks. I don't mind buying it if I have at least 1 or 2 personal recs. I just want to avoid a Braver Than You Think situation where I was basically hate reading.
Is anyone else continually getting spam from the mobile website version of this board?
I view the boards on my phone. I don’t really like the app (although I’m using it now to avoid the spam pop up) since it doubles some posts, skips others, and won’t show me if I have a notification ... so I use the Safari web browser.
But I keep getting a fake Xfinity spam message over the GBCN window telling me I’ve won a new phone.
Anyone else? I restarted the phone but no luck. It only happens on these forums, no other websites.
ETA: I switched to Chrome to see if that helps, but I’m still getting the same spam.

I haven't had that problem recently, but I have had similar problems in the past. Using Wifi instead of 4G usually helped. So did private browsing, but then I couldn't see Tweets.
The two remaining 45 flags came down in my neighborhood on Inauguration Day. Both of these houses have taken down the flags before between the Election Day and Inauguration Day, but they always went back up. I really hope they are down for good!!

I took my Biden/Harris down from the front lawn yesterday (I put it up in my home office). I was going to take it down on Nov 7, when the race was called and decided not to. Then I was going to take it down on Dec 14, and thought, "nah, I'll leave it up". Then I planned to take it down on January 6, and we all know how that day ended up, so I vowed to leave it up until Jan 20.
There's a couple that walks the neighborhood, and occasionally I'll see them out when walking my dogs. They would always say positive things about my sign, give me thumbs up, we'd chat about Biden, etc. A couple days before the inauguration I saw them out walking, and they said, "sign's still up?" And I said, "Hell, yes, I'm going to wait until Wednesday!" and they said, "GOOD CALL". It's been a fun little exchange over the past couple of months.
I will never understand how people confuse ball and bawl when describing crying.
I get that they're homophones, but if you've ever listened to rap music or watched a sporting event and heard players referred to as "ballers" it really should drive home that no one means "people who cry a lot."
I clicked on Facebook, the first post I read was blaming Biden for losing 52k jobs in his first 8 hours in office and then they said that they thought he was supposed to get covid in control. They were serious. I closed Facebook after that. I think my weekend will be better without it, lol.
It's sunny here so I'm hoping to enjoy that. My dad is out of the hospital so we might go say hi from a distance and drop off some food. I have a virtual charity run coming up and I need to film my segment for it, today might be a good day to do it. I have to do a mile in my underwear creativity gets points. Any fun ideas? I still a am in a shoulder sling though and had hip surgery at the end of October so nothing too crazy 😂.

I deleted FB last March. Every once in a while I will go on my husbands computer/phone and scroll through. It’s infuriating.
We went to look at a house today that was so scary. Like Tarik and Christina scary, moldy cat house. But, if I had their contractor (and his prices) it could be awesome.
We were going to go on a short hike with the dog, but discovered when we got to the trailhead that dogs weren't allowed. We went to the closest trailhead that allowed dogs and ended up doing 6 miles. I'm so ready for pizza right. The dog is passed out on the couch, too tired to touch her dinner.

One of the MAGA houses in our neighborhood took down their Trump flag on Inauguration Day and put up an American flag at half-staff. So dramatic. Lol.
