My youngest starts preschool at a parochial school this fall, so if school is not back 100%, we’ll be moving DS1 there too. It would be the same price I am paying for him to go to daycare a few days a week now to manage e-learning, and I’d only need to do one drop-off and pickup. I am ALL for teachers being vaccinated before going back full time, but once that’s done, we can’t keep doing this.
I am a huge supporter of public schools and moved to my neighborhood specifically to go to the one DS1 attends, and I do not want them to lose money if we unenroll, but H and I are probably going to have to go back to the office at least a few days a week at some point this fall, so virtual learning will not be sustainable.
sent there seem to be spots in private schools around here, though I haven't looked into it personally. There's still "now enrolling" signs up at many of the Christian/Catholic schools. We have a ton of religious schools here, so there's lots of choice. I think they are adding more space as they can too. I know their class sizes are pretty much now on par with our neighborhood school.
I don't blame anyone for doing what they have to do. Heck, if we don't have in-person options next year, I would consider enrolling my kids in private too. I'm just sad. They let our school stay staffed for projected enrollment this year, but there's no guarantee for that next year and I'm pretty sure we'll lose some good teachers. A lot of the people who left for private or homeschool will probably never come back and it just sucks.
