It also just feels like all day we’ve been invited back into the capital.
First, with all the morning inauguration ceremony. Then, the work day. Now, the party.
I loved watching Kamala swear in the three senators. I loved that they had us in for the EOs and then the press conference.
I just loved this display of, we’re going to work hard, and we’re going to celebrate each other, and we’re going to do it all together. It felt like very purposeful community building.
I just can't believe he's gone. Everything went okay. They're safe. They got to have their moment. We got a normal and cordial press conference. I am just so happy and relieved.
Eta: and the SENATE. Watching our Vice President swear in our new Senators. My God. I have to pinch myself to believe it's real.
I just had a chance to watch the whole press conference. She did an amazing job. I almost giggled when she said, “it’s in your packets” as I thought about how odd it was that someone came to the podium prepared to share actual information instead of attacking and tearing others down. She had a BINDER with TABS filled with information that she could reference for different questions!
This shouldn’t be noteworthy...but it’s SUCH a welcomed change from the last 4 years! I got a real sense of how important she knows it is to build good relationships with the press, and in that field, it’s done by sharing good, accurate, and timely factual information. I like how she didn’t try to make up answers, either, but said she’d report back soon (often “tomorrow”).

The Bernie memes are killing me. As someone who is slightly dangerous at photoshop, the white background from the original photo makes is so easy to cut and paste
WIRED magazine just dedicated its entire issue—literally every single page—to run an excerpt of a fictional book showing what a cyber war with China would be like, in hopes that reading about it helps our leaders avoid it at all costs.
If Trump was still our president, I would be sick with fear after reading that. I am so relieved to have competent leaders with international relations skills.
Talking to my parents this evening was a great reminder of the awesome events of the day. They were raised in two white conservative families, but raised me to be free-thinking and open to life. They watched the inaugural events all day and listening to their recap truly touched my heart. So many more tears!

I took a break tonight to just soak in the coverage with the husband and I have to say, this celebration was everything. I'm glad they didn't try to squeeze in any balls or any of the old stuffy stuff. This was refreshing and felt more "country centered" than anything else.
They interviewed Amanda Gorman this morning on CBS's morning show, and Gayle King told an Oprah story: apparently, Oprah called her and said she'd bought Maya Angelou a coat for the Obama inauguration and she asked her if she would let her continue the tradition and buy her a coat. Amanda said she already had a coat, and it's her favorite color. So Oprah bought her gold hoop earrings and a ring with a birdcage on it, to honor MA. When she came out, I immediately thought, "Yeah, she didn't need Oprah's coat." (But I did take note the hoops and the rings!) She was spectacular.
Holy shit, the self confidence of this young woman. Oprah offers to buy her a coat and she says “No, Thanks, I have one.” That is awesome. This is really a young woman we should keep our eyes and ears on.

I commented on this on Facebook. I don’t have the confidence at 46 to tell Oprah I already have a coat I love.

Totally agree! As sad as I was that they weren't going to have the traditional inauguration, I feel like yesterday was exactly perfect for this administration and this moment in history.

I mean, her coat was Prada so it's not just any old coat. (Sadly that means I won't be getting one.) But I love the jewelry too!
Yooooooo that's lovely but don't blow up the Washington Monument.
My first thought was that might be a little triggering for some people 😳 lots of booms, lots of historic stuff.
Well, we do have fireworks near the monuments on the 4th, but we have warning for that lol. We could see the fireworks from my house, but I wasn't watching the concert and when the booming started I admit it kind of made my heart race just because we have been on edge these last few weeks. Luckily quickly realized they were fireworks.

Oh but our designer pals have come through with a transparent background option! Drop him in anywhere you please.
BeagleMama Perfect. H and I were laughing about the memes last night and he usually says something like people have too much time on their hands. I said actually, start to finish, I bet it took less than 10 minutes.
If anyone comes across a good list of designers/outfits from the Biden/Harris kids, I'd appreciate it. Biden's granddaughters looked amazing and Doug's daughter's coat was a show stopper.

I'm just over here throwing likes on everyone's posts, haha.
I re-watched the inauguration with DH since he had been doing virtual interviews all day and wasn't able to watch any of it. We also popped some champagne and toasted a bunch of times. We both got choked up over so many of the things mentioned here, and I'm still in a haze of relief, disbelief, and hope. So many amazing moments happened yesterday, and I am so happy that this is just the beginning.
They have a huge job ahead of them, but I'm so confident that they are up to the task and we will all be better off because of their work.
