I'm so excited to see what today brings...so much good news, so many positive & exciting things! It feels so good to have professionals in charge again...from the dazzling inauguration to the press briefing to the 17 EO's ready to go yesterday.
Part of me never wants to speak of 45 again & part of me still wants to keep kicking him down the road.... I'm interested to see if they let him live at MAL since he had an agreement that wouldn't be a residence....but we all know he mostly just breaks his deals and lies. Also, today would be a great day for some state incitements or charges to drop or maybe the senate to get to work on the impeachment hearings.
This is some good stuff here- list of the 17 EO's and hwo many were reversals of the 45 policy Highlights include COVID, paris climate accord, Keystone pipeline, census, immigration, 1776 commission gone, student loans deferment & eviction moratorium
I feel like there was so much other news we missed yesterday...
His first cabinet member was approved (female)- The Senate confirmed Avril Haines to be director of national intelligence in what was the first confirmation vote of the Biden administration.
I still don't know what I should do with myself. I woke up this morning and....nothing. Like normal. I read some things. All is well. I know things won't always be well. But I trust this administration will have it in control.
It is like I am relearning how to use my hands again or something. I need to find a hobby lol.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted. I know we have so far to go. I know we have a lot of work to do. I know there is a huge and scary faction of people who hold such hate in their hearts and I don’t know how we fix it.
But, as recently as yesterday morning, all of those things were true, but we also had a dangerous tyrant in control.
To wake up today knowing that yesterday was beautiful and there were no “buts” about how beautiful it was, is just amazing. I was one who really was anxious about holding the Inauguration outside after the 6th, but now I’m so glad they did.

Like, did he tweet anything insane? No? Omg what do we do?!?!??
I just read an article on CNN about the oval office furnishings. I can do that. I can get verklempt at him putting a bust of Caesar Chavez on his credenza near a picture of Beau. Then I read an article about how energy policy will change under Biden. THEN I read an article about the Senate committee leaders. I can focus on details again!
I will be really interested to watch how this administration's priorities unfold and how they go about starting to clean up this mess. Yesterday was a good start, and I liked that even though most of the EOs were things that had been in place for some time and that they would've been able to prepare/plan that they would be taken care of on the first day, they also included that travesty of a 1776 commission whose report came out last week. That speaks to nimbleness and they're going to need every bit of that and every bit of expertise.
I'm dreading the stuff that is inevitably going to come out about what a wreck the former administration made of the government, and I doubt we'll ever find out about everything.

I opened Twitter this morning and didn’t feel like two weeks were instantly shaved from my life. Yesterday from noon on just felt like one big exhale. And though I know there is still so much to do, I keep thinking of Brittany Packnett-Cunninham and others who remind us that joy is resistance, too. So a day or two to breathe, and then back to work. I look forward to yelling about things not moving far enough quickly enough, instead of the existential dread that comes with sliding further and further into autocracy.
So here's something interesting and inconsequential: How Biden has changed the decor in the Oval Office. Every president does, to make it reflective of how he sees his presidency. Trump had that portrait of Andrew Jackson, for instance.
I love the blue rug and the family pictures, and the meaningfulness of everything from the moon rock to the busts and the portraits.
I also liked this detail: They let WaPo do a walk-through before Biden used the room, and they wouldn't let the reporter even walk on the rug, so that everything would look pristine when the president came in for the first time.
I mean, this isn’t news, is it? That’s been the issue all along. The last administration basically threw up their hands and said “the states can figure it out.”
Side note: what are we using to refer to that guy because I refuse to use his name anymore?

From what I'm hearing on CNN right now (w/ Jim & Poppy, MJ Lee reporting), it doesn't even sound like there was a framework for the states. There was literally nothing.
And yes, not surprising.
ETA: I'm calling him "the previous guy". I too refuse to use his name.
I just followed all those Instagram accounts and now I’m teary again looking at my feed. There’s just... so much competence. Lol
What strikes me is the richness of the American experience, and the power that comes from giving seats at the table to people with different backgrounds and experiences. I know I don’t need to preach the value of diversity to this crowd....but damn. We’ve been living in a country run (or not, as the case may be) by rich white businessmen, and that’s why the last four years have sucked. There are SO MANY brilliant and talented people in the country, and many of them don’t look like Rex Tillerson.....

All the way down to, for example, a kickass black woman I follow on Twitter is now the chief economist for the DoL. She is going to do such good work.

Before I even clicked on this link to see that the word "legacy" was in the headline, I was already thinking about the concept as it relates to the presidency. A legacy cannot be built by one person alone. Trump really thought he would go down in history as the best president, the one who "did all the things," the one person who saved the country. But the problem was, he had no real support for any of his ideas and so made all of these changes by Executive Orders, which are being reversed left and right. I mean, with a single signature, Biden has ended the funding needed to continue constructing the border wall.
I don't mean to downplay the very real damage Trump inflicted over the past 4 years - I know there is no magic wand that will wipe the slate clean. There are a lot of things that will take years to recover from. It's just that for today, I am in awe of how a "legacy" can be overturned in a moment.

Yes! It’s a new day in America. We’ve got a long way to go, but we’re taking good-sized steps at the moment.
I was talking the other day with someone who believes the “Biden has dementia” nonsense. My response was that even IF he does (I don’t believe he does), we’re still light years ahead of had the alternative won. He is surrounding himself with absolutely incredible, capable people. He still has a lot of hard work to do, but his Administration seems like it’s going to be pretty de-centralized. That’s a really good thing! We no longer have an egotistical maniac at the helm.

And we can review and evaluate and critique and praise their positions and actions with a baseline understanding that where they are in error or we disagree it isn't out of malice, incompetence, or grift!
We still have a lot A LOT to do as a country. And it's nice to trust that the people in charge at the very least recognize that.

Trump's big talking point was that he had a plan. A great plan. The generals were ready to vaccinate everyone at once! So yes, it is actually a big deal that there is no plan, even if it isn't a surprise.
Also, I refuse to basically Voldemort Trump. There should be absolutely no confusion as to where this blame lays.
Since it’s “go”day...I read this last night and thought of it first again this morning:
“Last thought of the night:
T**** sailed the ship of state into darkness and I have been bemoaning the fact that it takes a long time to reset the sails and turn this baby around.
Joe Biden showed up today and was like "You know this baby has an engine, right? Fuck a sail."”
