My sons skin problems have become a real problem so I’m just looking for any help at this point. When he was about 6m it all started but it was just eczema and dry skin. Every winter that flares up but we can deal with it.
This past summer it became a real problem. They diagnosed strep as one of the underlying problems at the time and psoriasis. He had pretty bad red/flaky spots. It got better but never has totally cleared up. I feel like I’m just on a cycle of constantly trying new meds and lotions and never actually fixing the issue. Some of the red spots are there still. Nothing is fixing them and I’m not feeling this dermatologist at this point because it just looks like red scabs or something that never go away at all.
I’m wondering about a diet change. Maybe even an elimination diet. I even considered doing a food sensitivity test because maybe that would just help us with the diet and mostly because I’m real darn desperate.
Has anyone experienced a skin issue like this that just stays? Has anyone done an elimination diet and found that to help? Like I said, at this point I’m just grasping for anything because I’m pretty fed up about getting nowhere.

My 4 year seems to have eczema now. He was prone to dry skin spots, but nothing like what he has this year. All over his butt and thighs. I asked the pedi about it and she said it's contact dermatitis, but I REALLLLY don't think so. It clears up almost immediately with Aquaphor but comes back within 48 hours.
My H has Celiac so deep down I think it might be gluten issues. I don't know though.
I'd look into gluten issues. Can you find a pediatric GI who can run tests? Do no eliminate gluten before testing. It needs to be in his system.

It definitely could be a gut issue. My son has had issues with eczema, and we've had some success lately with him taking probiotics consistently. We do either a small pill (LoveBug kids probiotic), gummy (Garden of Life kids probiotic), or probiotic yogurt.
I understand that functional medicine doctors are the ones you might see when really trying to get to the root of a problem, so that might be something to check into.
My 9 year old has had severe adult pattern eczema since he was a newborn.
- allergy testing was important for us to determine what could be triggering the reaction (CATS over here, which his daycare had. Changed daycares and that helped considerably) - antihistiminea (daily zyrtec) - frequent lukewarm baths with eczema safe products, only when necessary (vanicream cleansing bar) - daily baths, immediately PAT dry and slather with lotion to seal in moisture - vanicream - the thick stuff in the tub. This stuff is AMAZING. - dye/fragrance free detergents - be careful of sunscreens too - Cerave works well for him - socks over his hands at night, or he would scratch all night until he was bleeding
- we also did wet wrapping for a while. That was utterly miserable but it works
Good luck, I know how frustrating it is. We are now in a place where he’s got a few patches in creases (backs of knees, elbows, armpits) vs head to toe and all over his face

He had allergy testing when he was 3 and it showed basically nothing.
We have used vanicream for years. It’s fine for the eczema/dry skin but nothing has done anything for this new skin problem/psoriasis. We’ve had different oils, steroid creams etc etc.
We have switched detergents too but I’m Thinking of this new product I saw on CEP where you use basically no detergent.
Have you joined any of the psoriasis Facebook groups?
Dd likely has psoriasis. My dad has it and she has the exact same symptoms, though his is severe. Unfortunately, our pediatrician and dermatologist didn’t want to make a diagnosis due to her age.
I joined several Facebook groups at the time and found them helpful for suggestions of things to try. Dds mostly impacts her nails and her skin issues have been minor so far, so I’m not any help there. A lot of people on the group seemed to find diet alterations effective for them. If I remember right, red meat, dairy and sugar seemed to be common triggers for flare ups. I wish I could remember the specific groups, but I left them once we found working solutions for her.
I hope you are able to get it under control! I know the frustration of buying, buying, buying and not having it work.

My sons both get issues like that when we visit my parents in the winter (Midwest as we live in Ca). I have them sleep with mittens on and drenched in the slimy aquaphor ointment. That seems to help their hands. For their bodies Major Ammonium Lactate lotion works but it can sting so it works best before there are scrapes/sores.
