Mostly coming in to say it is also one of my favorite books of all time
Currently reading Code Name Verity only because I got The Enigma Game and then realized it’s a prequel so wanted to read Verity first. But didn’t realize they’re YA and I’m not loving it so far.
I also have a new translation of Beowulf checked out so I might switch over to that.
Keeper, a book by a caregiver’s experience with her MIL’s Alzheimer’s. I’m 85% done and I will need something light after this. My Mom has Alzheimer’s and it is like reading about my own mom.
Florence Adler Swims Forever - prob my favorite of the month. I knew what it was about but the way the story developed was different from my expectations. This book really touched me.
Every Last Secret - meh. Another Gone Girl rip off. It started strong but I thought it ended lazily.
The Broken Girls - Really liked this. It was an easy read. Outside my usual genre but really enjoyable. After I checked out...
The Sundown Motel - I liked this but not as much as TBG. I guess because TBG had a much meatier main story outside the mystery/supernatural
Where the Forest Meets the Stars - this was just OK. It was kind of a stark opposite of the two books above as far as plot resolution. Good story
The Vanishing Half - very good - prob my second favorite of the month. I wanted more though!
The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek - this was a strange read for me. First I was madly googling to find out more about the blue people- was shocked that they actually exist. The story itself reminded me of the stories my AP English teacher would have us read (The Dollmaker and another I can’t remember). The one thing I didn’t like was the way the author equated the racism the blue people experienced was on par with what Black people had to endure. It was just an odd addition.
ETA: Maybe the book I’m thinking of was Gap Creek? If so way past college and high school .
I have The Yellow House and Girl With the Louding Voice sitting here and I need to read them over the next couple days before they’re due.
ETA: Just finished The Girl With the Louding Voice. I looooved. Takes this month’s #1 spot
*One to Watch--super cute and exceeded my expectations *Happiness for Beginners--also very cute but had some substance *The Push--super interesting but lots of trigger warnings necessary *Vampire Academy book 1 and 2--re-read of a silly YA series but still enjoyable *Because of Winn Dixie--children's book but excellent. DD asked me to read it.
I have Midnight Library, From Blood to Ash, Invisible Girl, The Exiles, and This Time Next Year all ready to go depending on what I'm in the mood for next.
Jalapeñomel, I read that one a couple years ago and re-read it last year. It has stuck with me in a way that 99% of what I read just doesn’t. Fantastic book.
I am currently reading The Death of Vivek Oji and like it a lot. It’s a quick read too. Next up is Obama’s new book, which I’ve heard is... not a quick read. Lol
I’ve recently finished: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (excellent, loved it)
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (I enjoyed the family’s story, but the science was too dry for me)
Ready Player 2 (not as good as the first one, but I still liked it and had fun reading it)
The Midnight Library (liked this one, an interesting twist on what felt like a familiar storyline)
The Queen’s Gambit (fun follow up to the show, I recommend)
The Office of Historical Corrections (this was my favorite book of 2020, highly recommend)

I just finished The Vanishing Half and loved it.
Now I'm reading No Crystal Stair: A Documentary Novel of the Life and Work of Lewis Michaux, Harlem Bookseller. It's a biography but done in a unique and interesting way.
I just finished Regretting You which was really really good. I loved it. Now I’m reading Those Who Knew Me and it is also really good. I just love reading so much!
Anxious People. I'm enjoying it so far. It's a lot of different characters, but the author writes them in a way that you can somehow keep them straight.
Before that I read Verity. I really loved it, but I was not happy with the ending. I heard she's writing a sequel about the son and I will definitely read that.
I’m either cheap or lazy....or both. I just keep reading these Amazon First books and I’m behind. Haha. I’m reading Grace and Hadley now and it’s keeping my interest. I just finished Your Perfect Year and it was ok. A bit drawn out and far fetched.
I read one book last year. Trying for 6 this year but it's honestly feeling like one more commitment on my plate still. Hoping that changes when dd is in daycare (starting Wed, pleaseplease), and I'm keeping some of these recs in mind!
I'm reading Doctor Sleep at the moment (sequel to the Shining.) It was made into a movie recently which I won't see until after I finish the book. It's decent so far; I'm about halfway through and shit is about to get nuts of course.

I just picked up Anxious People from the library this morning. I’ve been on the waiting list for months. I can’t wait to dive in.

I'm re-reading Less by Andrew Sean Greer. Just finished Dolly Parton's Songteller and The Queen's Gambit-both good. Our library is open for curbside pickup, but I'm feeling unmotivated to do the work of finding books that aren't on waitlists. I miss just browsing the stacks and picking up interesting books.

I can’t remember the last time I bought a book. Everything I read is kindle format from the library.
It does take a level of effort to add stuff to your list though and manage the shuffle as books come available to read. 😊
I am now reading Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld. It was in my monthly book crate that I get from our local library. Also in the box was the Shortest Way Home by Pete Buttigeig. Whoever puts together the book boxes really took my "no conservative authors" request and ran with it, which I appreciate lol.
I just finished 28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand and I could not put it down. I finished it in about 5 days which is super fast for me. Probably one of my favorite books I’ve read in a long time. TW: it does involve someone dying of cancer so be prepared for that.
I’m about a third of the way through “All the Light We Cannot See”. It’s taking me a long time to read (unusual for me) and started out very slow but I’m starting to get more into it.
This month, I’ve read: Open Book by Jessica Simpson - it was entertaining and I read it mostly bc I know her husband and I wanted to see what she said about him.
Talking As Fast As I Can - Lauren Graham’s memoir. It was entertaining, not great.
Nothing To See Here - kind of a strange story but I liked it.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
