It’s expensive and we don’t use their bags. We joke about making people look at it when they visit so we get our money’s worth. It’s very slim, which we needed. We do dump recycling a lot, and actually put a little overflow bin on the ground.
I think if I had space for a big trash can and a big recycle can, I’d just get two. But, this slim one is perfect for the space and does look/function really nice.
Ive been very happy with the Simple Human trash cans I’ve bought. Worth It if you want something with a lid/pedal mechanism bc it has a 10 year guarantee.

We have a motion activated one from Costco. I like it but you have to get used to waving your hand over it. Never have issues with smells though. We have an attached garage and the door is right outside our kitchen, so recycling goes straight out there (we have one of those huge garbage can sized bins next to the door to the kitchen)
We have a huge motion activated one from Costco. The motion activation always surprises our guests because you have to make a point to walk around it, otherwise it will pop open if you get too close.
I buy 30 gallon trash bags and we really only need to empty the trash about once a week. It never smells though.
We had a desk in our kitchen and we filled in the space below with a beverage fridge and a drawer for recycling. This is my favorite home hack! Our house was built in 1972 and was a total 70s time capsule when we moved in. Painting the cabinets and filling in the desk area really updated the look!
We also have a simplehuman and like it. Expensive, but has held up well and still looks and works great.
We got a credit from Simplehuman several mo the ago because they screwed up another order, so we used the credit to buy the special sized trash bags, and I think it spoiled us! We were able to find a “generic” brand that does the same sizing for about half the price as SH, and are going to try them out. They’re still a lot more expensive than regular kitchen bags we get from Sam’s, so I’m not sure how long we’ll buy the special bags....

Right now we have two trash cans that are in a cabinet that slides out. One for trash and one for recycle. They are just generic trash cans. But before that we had a simple human round stainless steel can that you opened with your foot. We had that trash can for probably 12 years and it still looked and worked great. We didn’t have the space to hide it so it was just out in the kitchen.
I have two of these in the kitchen-one for garbage and one for recycling. Cheap, comes in a few colors, and does the job. I don't feel guilty replacing it when it gets too dirty/stained/whatever every few years. That one will replace the broken one in the garage for the glass recycling (you have to take the glass to the recycling center in my city as they don't collect it).

I’m not able to find a link for it, but I literally just bought a Koehler rectangular step trash can from Costco yesterday for $69. Much cheaper than comparable ones I’ve seen lately.

We have this, only the garbage only version. We have a separate container for recycle or we just take recycling straight to the garage. Ours is over 12 years old and I still love it. We buy black outdoor bags from Costco and use those. Works great, no smells, easy to take outside and hose off when needed.
