“Cotton, however, did not serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment. He attended the US Army's Ranger School, a roughly eight-week leadership course that teaches service members light-infantry tactics. The school is open to volunteers from all of the US military's branches, including the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps. Ranger School graduates are allowed to affix a "Ranger tab" — a symbol denoting the completion of the course — on their uniforms.”
It rather depends on how *Cotton* is describing his experience, rather than how it's been stated on his behalf.
But if he's going around saying he volunteered *with* the 75th (and really, if he only volunteered *for* and they denied, he shouldn't be saying anything about serving *as* in any form) than that's like saying he matriculated at Harvard after having taken a couple online courses.

Oh, he steps in it, alright -

I agree. There’s a lot of semantics here, and while I agree that wording matters, his specific words are important. I’ve known people who use the phrase “I got my Ranger tab” to indicate they graduated from Ranger school but haven’t served as a Ranger.....but maybe that’s an AF thing.

I'm a constituent. He said he's an Army Ranger multiple times on the campaign trail and in town halls (when he had them). Unfortunately, in Arkansas all that matters to people is that R next to his name.
Welp, CLEARLY it's not some folks misconstruing his eight-week training course Ranger tab for actual service as a Ranger. What an absolute turd. Thank you for your service but no thank you for the stolen valor of those who have served in the role you are claiming.

Lying liars lie again...I feel like actual military people would be pretty pissed about this instead of being something they support (if they learn the truth)

Civilians get this confused all the time. Soldiers should not. 🤷♀️.
You can say you graduated from Ranger School, you have your Tab etc.
If asked "are you a Ranger?"
One should absolutely clarify no and give credit to the 75th.
A lot of people will still walk away confused bc how come you have a badge saying "Ranger" if you arent..but whatever, if you want to learn more about schools, badges, and units, uniforms etc its easy to learn.
Just for clarification, Ranger SCHOOL is a 62 day small-unit tactical training and leadership program. Anyone serving in the military can attend. It's "school" and good on a resume. It is NOT to be confused with being an actual Special Ops Ranger from the 75th. There are folks who say a Ranger is a Ranger is a Ranger, whether it is a tab or a scroll, because they're now allowing women into the Ranger school but they aren't permitted into the 75th. IMO, education does not equate to experience.
You can say you attended Harvard because you took an online class or two at Harvard College, but that doesn't give you allowance to say you're a Harvard alum.
There is a difference between school (a "tab") and experience and assignment (the "scroll" of the 75th Rangers.)
What Tom Cotton had was 62 days of tactical and leadership training. What he did NOT have was on-the-job experience in Special Ops or the right to say that he did. "Decisions AS A RANGER in Iraq and Afghanistan" is not deceptive or disingenuous. It is an outright lie.
