Friday-rest day Saturday-glorious 20 mile skate with my racing partner Sunday-bodyweight and HIIT training Monday-YouTube cardio dance workout by Kiera LeShae. I've been doing these once/week until skating season starts again and they are SO MUCH fun! I hate indoor cardio so, if I'm digging it it must be fun!
sadlebred what's the deal with gravel rides? It sounds so jarring, but maybe that's because I dont have the right equipment. Is it a training thing? The scenery? Just a different kind of ride like mountain biking vs street? I know almost nothing about cycling.
@peep, Gravel or unpaved cycling has been around for decades, but it's become really popular in the last 5 years. We used to take our cyclocross bikes out (watch CX on youtube--fun sport), but now there are gravel bikes from all of the major manufacturers. At it's core, it's bike riding on gravel roads, dirt roads, clay roads, any unpaved road. It's not the same as mountain biking on singletrack through woods.. You use bigger tires than road bikes, and they are run at much lower pressure. This helps with the jarring. Some people prefer their mountain bikes on gravel roads, but I find my mtb too sluggish (giant tires, lots of rolling resistance.) I love it because you don't get as cold around here since the gravel roads tend to have more trees on each side and better wind protection than the regular paved roads. Plus, you get to see so many cool things! There is a barn quilt trail on part of the loops I did today. I stopped to feed the goats--they come running b/c they know people on bikes usually have treats.
