It turns out that I didn't love the interior layout, so I think I'm saved from having to make the decision of how much I care about the exterior.
The kitchen is huge, which is nice, but it's at the cost of a dining room. Pre-covid, we would have >8 for dinner fairly regularly, so the kitchen table wouldn't cut it. I figured we'd put a dining table in part of the living room, add wiring for a chandelier... but the problem is that the family room is too small to balance the loss of living room space. Plus, the wood burning fireplace is in the family room. We like watching TV/movies by the fire, but that room was really too small to have enough seating to do that as a family. Disappointing.
Basically, the house had a huge kitchen and huge amount of bedroom space, but surprisingly little common space outside of the kitchen. If we had 5 people living there, we'd be on top of each other in waking hours.
