I have been really good about stepping up exercise during COVID now that I don't have a two-hour commute every day, and have lost more than 30 pounds over the past year. I wear scrubs to work these days and I'm embarrassed to admit that for work calls from home I wear pajama pants with a nice top and am just very careful to keep my bottom half off-camera, but I need at least a new pair of jeans for running errands on weekends.
I tried a few places this weekend, but was stymied by most places (Marshall's, etc.) having dressing rooms closed -- I bought a few pairs to try on at home but I'll be returning them all. I'm short (5'0") so usually I'll find my waist/hip fit in store and then order short sizes online if possible. My last jeans were all multiples of the same pair from Old Navy, but in store and even online I didn't find any I liked right now -- I hate the super skinny look and also I'm too short for high rise, which seems to be the current style. I'm willing to buy online and return in store as long as I'm not losing tons of money in shipping.
Any suggestions? What is completely outdated these days? Can I still get straight-cut or will the youths laugh at me? ;-)
My favorite jeans currently are from American eagle. I ordered a size up from my normal size. I’ve had good luck with lucky jeans too.
Thanks! Where do you buy Lucky jeans from? Some of the ones I'm returning to Marshall's are Lucky, and so I think I know what size I am there, and that I just need a short length if possible.

I’m also short and I love American Eagle because you can get the leg length in X-short, which is awesome. I used to buy $200 Paige jeans and now all my denim is from AE because I don’t need to get them tailored.

JCPenney does have fitting rooms open. A.n.a has a variety of jean styles. They also come in petites. You will find more styles online than in stores. You can ship them to the store and try on in the fitting rooms then return right away. If you need dress pants Worthington has a good variety as well. They also have Levi's that you can get in short.
My weight has been in flux the last few years, so I haven't bought expensive denim. I've just bought a whole bunch of different styles from Old Navy/Gap and returned what didn't fit (which is most of it). I only need one pair to work! They have short/petite lengths. Mid-rise works best for me.
I've also tried Nordstrom Rack (there's one in my city to return in store) and Nordstrom on clearance, although nothing has worked out there. I keep trying though because I randomly did really well with maternity jeans from Rack (Paige and Sevens).

At the military exchange which doesn’t help you much! You could try their main store, I know I used to get coupon codes in the past.

Thanks! It's weird, their sizes online seem to be different from the one marked for the store, which was numbered (e.g. size 8) as opposed to the ones on line which seem to be marked by waist-inseam? Or maybe waist/length? A little confused because my natural waist (e.g. smallest part of my waist) is WAY smaller than where I'd want the jeans to hit. Looks like Macy's may carry them in store, I might try seeing if they have dressing rooms open or buying/returning, either online or in person, to them. I'd rather spend $50 for jeans that fit well than $30 for ones that look bad.
How about using Amazon Wardrobe to try on some jeans? With Wardrome you don't have to pay for them, you can try them on in your own home, and then return them. It's a 7 day try on period. I did this last week and found some Amazon Essentials jeans that fit really well.

Weird, I just saw that as an option for the first time and was wondering what that meant! I wasn't sure how that differed from the usual Amazon return policy, and if shipping delays may cause issues. I may do that if I can't find them in store, though.
The jeans I own are from Eddie Bauer, Old Navy, Gap, and Boden in case that gives you ideas of where to look. I have a mix of skinny and boot cut. I try to find ones that are mid rise.
Jcrew - I like their 8" and 9" rise jeans - and they have a bit of stretch to them which is nice as well. I still prefer skinny jeans which apparently aren't cool anymore. Whatever, I look good in them!
Also, prioritizing health and wellness over the past year wasn't always easy, so that's really great that you were able to.
I really like silver jeans - they're sold a few places. They have a little stretch but more structure so I'm not constantly hiking them up or adjusting. Ditto American eagle too. Once you find a pair/cut that fits - but it in ALL The colors.
Congrats on staying healthy and active during this time!

Your try on period doesn't begin until they are delivered. Amazon tracks it, and will send you an email when it starts. You don't pay anything up front unlike buying something outright. You try them on, return what you don't like, and then pay if you keep something. In the Amazon orders it will let you say "Keep" or "Return" if it's a wardrobe order. Then you send back what you don't want, and your CC is never charged for them.
