Thank you for hearing our case today. The contractor took thousands from us and performed almost no work. We are not looking to screw him over. We just want our money back. And we know we won't get anything from him, but if you enter a judgment in our favor, we can petition the state for reimbursement. Since he hasn't shown up or responded to any requests or hearings, I'm hoping your job is easy here.
Thank you, Stupid attorney's client.
Dear Stupid Attorney -
We contacted you almost a year ago on this. We've been in regular contact. Texting me 8 minutes before a hearing to have me re-explain the same case to you AGAIN is not impressive. Telling me I won't have to testify when I CLEARLY had to testify because you couldn't remember the facts of the case was not impressive. So I had to scramble to get DH on the phone since he interacted with the contractor more than I did. This hearing has been scheduled for 2 weeks (since you continued it... 2 weeks ago... so you should have been prepped for the original date, really), and you've had the documentation for 11 months. So WHY did you wait until 8 minutes before to clear everything up???
Dear traveltheworld, Add me to the "exercise again" list. I need to get myself back on the bandwagon. Signed, TwinMomma
Dear ExH, "I make food available and it's up to the kids to pack their own lunch" is not an acceptable reason for why the school has had to call me on multiple occasions to drop off lunch for them. That is such a BS answer. You're the adult. They're the children. Yes, they can be responsible for packing their own lunch, but it's your responsibility to double check so that our children don't go hungry. Way to pass the buck and blame the kids instead of stepping up like a grown up. Signed, Pissed off
Dear universe, Please, please, please send a ton of well-paying, good-tipping customers to the restaurant this week for the reopening. Beau needs a win for his morale and his bank account. Throwing in some sunny weather that's good for outdoor dining wouldn't hurt either. Love, Desperate restauranteur's SO
I would totally make sure that the school knew it’s your ex-H’s fault. Totally. In a nonchalant way. “Oh... yeah... at their dad’s again... sure... I will take care of it...”
Mae
Dear self -
How did you manage to lose one ear Bud??? One was in the case charging... other has made it to parts unknown...
I NEED MORE THAN A 50% RESOURCE THAT REPORTS TO ANOTHER GROUP WHO I DIDN'T GET TO INTERVIEW. It would also be nice if you'd tell me how this split arrangement works, how training works, etc.
We went from SIX people to THREE. My operations person hasn't taken a SINGLE DAY OFF since October. October of 2019. THAT IS NOT OKAY.
My former workwife, who supports a portfolio the same size? She has TWO direct reports supporting her. TWO. And a team of other counterparts that she can rope in or assign deals to if her workload gets overwhelming or she needs time off. I was already in a position where I can barely manage new deals, let alone my existing portfolio when they're performing, and now I've got legal action on one client, and THREE DIFFERENT sets of counsel representing us on another deal that I have to manage.
Dear Village You rock! Thanks M's Dad for taking DD today so I can work in peace and quiet. Thankful Mom
Dear DH Yes you need to pick DD up from M's house. Yes you need to text an ETA before you get in the car and drive over because they may be someplace else. Yes you and DD can eat dinner before I get home at almost 7pm. It isn't rocket science Wifey
Dear Congress/IRS If you extend deadline can you just give us 30 days. I can't deal with another year where tax season just doesn't quit. Signed Tired tax lady
waverly, my niche is very limited. I burned bridges when I left the old company. I have 3 competitors locally and I've interviewed at two of them of the years.
One of which isn't very "local" (in the real world, it would involve a 1.5 hour commute each way, which I won't sign up for) and I don't think it was a good culture fit. One of them did a reorg and changed their business model, so that at my level, I'd be stripped of a lot of the things I actually enjoy doing and end up in a role that's 100% of the stuff I hate 100% of the time. The third would be the most viable option, I just.. don't want to work there for a variety of reasons.
Where I am is comfortable in general, which is probably part of the issue with working up motivation to leave. My pay is good, my work/life balance is good, and in general, it's a good place to work. But the fact that they can't/won't hire someone to support is an issue. Half the problem is probably my own fault and that I was able to make it work for so long with no resources.
k3am, Can you just start responding to every work request with a "Sure, but what should I bump instead?" type message? That's what I had to start doing and now I do a weekly check in with my boss to prioritize projects.

Dear Dog, Can you not bark and whine the entire time the cleaning lady is here next time? I don't even know what you wanted other than for her to just sit next to you on the couch and pet. She ain't got time for that. Love, you're a pain in my butt but I love ya
Dear kids, Spring break is next week and the following week. It's probably going to be boring with only a few outings and activities. Rona isn't fully to blame. It's your lame ass parents who both just got super freaking busy with work. Love, at least you get to sleep in
Dear body, What's a girl gotta do to shrink you? Besides eat right 100% of the time. Signed, going to lose my shit if the scale goes up another pound.
twinmomma, that's what I've been doing. And yet they still keep adding new work. Then they "let me borrow" resources from another division, but I end up spending a ton of time teaching someone how to do something that I could do in significnatly less time, still needing to go back and refine portions, and then never getting to utilize that person again.

Dear former coworker turned supervisor, I will answer your two client's questions because it's my job. But you could have answered both of these questions yourself instead of delegating. Don't forget that I worked with you for 14 years before you became a supervisor and remember your stupid shenanigans. I'm not a new employee that you can fool with your fake knowledge or an idiot that doesn't know your job and mine. Signed, BTDT
Dear Beau, Thank you for helping me out yesterday so I could go to the gym. I keep waiting for a passive aggressive attitude because I did something for myself, but then I remembered that doesn't happen with you. Love, Still a little broken.
Why does it appear you only deliver on Wednesdays? That is literally the worst day for me to get perishable food. Why can’t you deliver on Monday? Or hell, even Friday so the food would still be fresher early in the week.
mommyatty, that's my complaint as well, although we can choose Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. They used to deliver on Tuesday, which was better, even if not purpose. At least with their new delivery service (at least in CA), they deliver early enough on Wednesdays that we cook on Wednesday. Then we end up doing Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, and Monday.
I want to start a p/t grad school program in the fall. I’ve thought about this many times but now seems finally to be the right time. I applied to two local programs. I got into both (yay me). I got scholarships to both (double yay me). I have to decide which to accept in the next two weeks.
Program 1: state school. Classes meet once per week on Saturdays for 3hrs. Online small group work and homework in between. Cost is X.
Program 2: Ivy League school. Classes meet once per month, all day Fri/Sat. online class sessions in between, plus homework. Cost is two and a half times X.
So, how much is an Ivy League name on your graduate degree worth? Other contextual factors: my industry is snobby and would respect Ivy League more than State school. I would still like to be a CEO/Exec Dir. On the other hand, I have already climbed a bunch of the ladder. We are still paying undergrad loans and have saved very little for DD’s college.
shakinros, what is director/more senior level earning potential? Will this degree increase your pay at your current job or mostly just be useful if you changed jobs? Is there a difference in local network for public vs Ivy League? Also can you give us a feel for total cost vs multiples? IIRC, is it in non profit industry (not say law or MBA)?

sdlaura yep, it’s nonprofit. Philanthropy, so a generally well-heeled corner, but def not law. It will not increase my pay at current job. I don’t expect to switch jobs for at least 3yrs (degree will take 2yrs to complete). I got promoted several times here but I’m the only person at my level without a graduate degree and it would be conspicuous to not have one when I next change jobs. Future earning potential is 30% more to double my current salary, but could also be less if I move to a smaller organization. (Which I might do if I could secure an Exec. Director job) Price for the total degree is about $25K vs $60K. There will be borrowing in either case.

shakinros, are the $25K vs. $60K numbers already post-scholarship adjustments?
Personally, I'd go for the Ivy League degree and for the network you'd build both with your cohorts and alumni, especially in a sector like philanthropy. $35K doesn't seem like a lot over a lifetime of earning potential.
And Congratulations for getting in! That's quite an accomplishment!
Is the Ivy League localish to you? In my mind, one of the intangible benefits to a graduate degree is the network you develop while getting one. (I say this as someone who doesn't have a graduate degree.) I work in a snobby industry, so a graduate degree from a state school wouldn't carry as much weight.
Dear WP I feel like a failure in parenting and as a leader. Perhaps I am just burnt out I feel like nothing I do is good. Never enough time.Maybe im about to PMS Signed Sad and just tired
I chose the state school but my profession doesn’t care where we get our degrees as long as it accredited. And typically that means only 2-3 schools per state. Then we moved to the Midwest and Ivy is not nearly as much a thing here as in NYC.
If you live in the Northeast and you need to be snobby for your job go for the Ivy. Although I personally don’t like the lack of pay raise associated with it or the low pay in non- profits but maybe being in that area means your pay is higher anyway. Not being snobby on pay just thinking in terms of ROI I would like to see that higher.
And I don’t mean you are snobby but need to be considered “elite” by donors and hiring managers maybe? Words are failing me.
I got my degree for 10K and only borrowed 2500 so I should probably see myself out. I would not have gotten paid more for an Ivy degree.
