For the first time this season, I've felt like I was watching an episode that could only have been Doctor Who. Humor, really touching character studies, and an intriguing (though perhaps not terribly well-conceived) sci fi plot to boot. Plus, a Redgrave playing a Leithbridge-Stewart! Be still my heart!
The conversation between the Doctor and Amy at the Tower of London was, in my opinion, the most revealing of the 2.5 years we've spent with 11. His admission that it's been so hard for him to let go of her and Rory because they were the first people he met in his current regeneration rang completely true to me (as did Amy's admission that they've changed a lot in the last decade they've spent traveling with him on and off--the writing has reflected that very nicely this season) particularly given the fact that he basically did the same thing with Rose.
First, my one criticism. Lame ending to the Shakri's cubes.
But I loved everything else. I totally agree that the dialog was spot on this episode. Serious, which is hard to get from the Doctor, but not without humor. Loved Leithbridge-Stewart, Jemma was great! Liked that Brian was around again and seeing how they had progressed. And look, Christmas again. They are obsessed with Christmas on this season.
And can we talk about the phone charger that Rory left under Henry's bed? It was shown in this episode and talked about in Mercy. So is it that that clip (in power of three) was from when they were traveling and landed in Mercy? Or something else?
Oh, and I loved the one heart bit! "How do you live like this?!" Makes me happy to see references to other Doctors.
I strongly agree with Mr. Fluder. The preview certainly strongly hinted at the possibility, and that is the way the Angels worked back in Season 3. The ones from Season 5 were an aberration in that they literally killed people.
That would tick me off. It was sad with Donna, but the Ponds would end up forgetting they had a child....
Maybe they'll have an in between Donna and Rose - don't remember, but have this happy life with a kid?
Mr. mfluder thinks Angels will send them into a different time and they'll end up having to live it out.
We were just talking about this. That they'll be timelocked and have to live out there lives in the past without the doctor.
Moffat said that not everyone is going to get out alive (in this video www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00z1278 but warning, it made me tear up a little). But what does "alive" mean? He's already killed Rory, more than once!
mfluder you better watch it as soon as you can so that I can have someone to email while I'm a crying mess.
