No help on which HW to put in because our house had them when we moved in. But I will echo others that said to look into HW in the foyer and hallways. Our kitchen and attached mudroom are tile, which is fine, though I do wish it were hardwood like the rest of the first floor. But I would absolutely not like it if there were tile in the entry and hallway and hardwood elsewhere. But I prefer continuous floors.
I think an ivory tile would be great in the kitchen!
2. Kitchen backsplash doesn't have to be done before we move in, but I will be so much happier with that kitchen if we do it early on. I really dislike what's there. I'm thinking ivory maybe, or some light shade that looks good with the counters? 3x6 subway? I want it to be light in color, not too expensive, and also less busy. What do you think?
I completely agree with changing the backsplash tile! Also would add crown moulding in the kitchen.
Just wanted to say I have had babies in two different houses - both with hardwood floors.
One had a runner and one did not on the stairs. The kids actually slipped more in the house with the runner. While their falls were perhaps more cushioned their feet didn’t stick to the carpet - just slid - and socks were pretty much the same.
Our rule for toddlers was no socks or flip flops on the stairs. One kid has slipped once on the stairs (she was wearing soccer socks and the toe part wasn’t all the way on) but otherwise no one has slipped and fallen down the stairs.
