In other @ randoms - my kids are at school today - I'm pretty sure today is the day Sizzli's regular teacher, who's been out on maternity leave, comes back. I didn't say anything to him because I wasn't sure if I was right, but if I was he's going to FREAK OUT. He loooooooves her and has has only met her in person once for about half an hour.
Has mentioned how much he misses her about twice a week since she's been on leave.
It makes me happy that he was able to make that sort of connection even though they were virtual for most of the year. She's been a great teacher.
Both my kids are back to school 2.5 hours per day, 4 days a week. They love it SO MUCH. I knew it would be good to be back, but I didn't realize it would be THIS good.
Oh man...there is a student crying in my class today. I didn't *make* her cry, I just told her how she wrote her essay wasn't correct, and sat with her to show her how to fix it (I actually fixed a bunch of it myself to model), and she started crying because she just "doesn't get it."
*sigh* Yes, dear. It's hard to write in an advanced way. Please don't cry, though. Sheesh.
A local daycare my daughter used to attend went viral in a bad way. It’s really different reading about these things vs knowing the teachers and the owner.

This happens to me at least once a week. Ahhh, middle school.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
taratru, erbear, my most recent "student crying" story was from December 2019, before we closed b/c of COVID. There was a young man that was part of my "library kids" group from my first year as a librarian. He was one of those kids that came in every day to hang out during lunch. His family is military and was transferred. He came in that day to tell me that he was moving away, to sign off on his form that he had no obligations. I signed the form, told him that we would miss him so much, that I was so grateful that he and his friends let me learn to be a librarian with them. We promised to keep in touch, and he left the library. Fast forward to 5 minutes later that my work-BFF came into the library and said, "What the hell did you do to (Student Name)?" And I was all like, "uh, nothing, why? He's moving so I signed his form and wished him the best, told him that we will all miss him." BFF says, "well, dude, he's out in the hallway leaning up against the wall, bawling." OMG. I was so sad that he was so sad to leave us.
He still emails us about once a month, keeping us updated on what's going on in his life (BFF was his social studies teacher). He also gave me one of his art pieces at the end of 7th grade and I have it hung up in my office. He is a special young man.

I wouldn’t put that on you. I *hated* moving as a kid and we did it a lot.

Oh, I told BFF to pound sand--he knew what was happening and was busting chops. LOL BFF is more like my brother than a bestie anyway, so of course he's going to go that route.
I too moved around SO much as a kid (6 schools between K-12) and I def understood what was happening. It touched me that he found his safe space in my library and that I was one of his "trusted adults". I had a couple of those in all of my schools--I hope they know how important they were to me.

My baby learned how to play peek-a-boo today and it’s basically the cutest thing ever. I can’t believe he is going to be 7 months old next week. He can drink water from a sippy cup! He is basically a teenager. 😭😭😭
