I didn’t know how to title this. I’ve noticed a pattern when a Facebook friend loses weight that they post pictures and celebrate their weight loss but never post what “the program” is. I mean, they lost tons of pics and it’s always “PM me” if someone posts “what’s the program?” Or “how’d you do it?” Is there a gimmick here? Why do they do this? I’m curious about a friend who has just lost 25 lbs and looks amazing (she was never super heavy to start with) but I feel like it’s a trap. Am I being to suspicious or is it some sort of marketing come on?

It’s most likely a MLM (beach body, etc) - those people are really moving away from directly pushing their products on SM and more cryptic but positive messages to make people engage them in a conversation about it
I have been wondering the exact same thing, I have 3 friends making posts like that. Whatever they are doing is definitely working, but I've been too skeptical of an MLM scheme to ask any of them about it.
Yes! I had been noticing this too and then one of my dearest friends tried to hook me with a mlm. I don’t even mind the mlm and it has some good stuff IMO, but the way she was trained to do it was really eye-opening and disappointing. It felt dirty and shady!

Definitely notice it too. And I'll get a friend request from some one...with a ton of mutual friends, accept request, and boom it's all of this immediately
That being said, I really did love beach body. They had a ton of great programs, so IF you wanted a program to follow, they are worth looking into at least. But you can do that on your own.

Totally a MLM. It used to be all about tagging the program so I don’t know what happened besides “they” decided that this “secrecy” and “build up” will hook you more.
I have someone I really like post an amazing before and after of crepey skin. This person suffers from that on her legs and for a minute I thought it actually might be her photos (legs looked just like hers). I texted another friend and was like “wow she got great results. Should I ask what she’s using?” And she was totally like “NO” and of course it turned out to be a stock photo and the only people chiming In on the photo were other pushers.
is optavia an MLM? it's all the rage with some FB friends. i don't know if it's an MLM but i do know one of them (at least) is a "coach"
i do know several people who have lost significant amounts of weight doing it, but it's basically starvation, so... yea.
It is. You can't sign up without being assigned a coach, and the coach gets a percentage from the amount of food each of their clients order. My coach does absolutely nothing (and I also don't want a coach) so knowing that some rando stranger is benefiting from my orders annoys the crap out of me.
This is my 2nd time doing the program. I did it last year when a friend of mine did it and lost a lot of weight and signed up to be a coach. She quit coaching after a while, and has gained back most of what she lost.
I had a goal of losing 40 lbs. I lost 30 in 3 months, and then plateaued and kept cheating because I was frustrated at not continuing to see results for several months. I had just started transitioning off when Covid hit, and all at once I couldn't go to the gym, I was stuck at home dealing with the stressful remote school crap, my kids were snacking constantly, and food was 'buy what you can find' for a while. I totally gave up and gained back everything I lost.
I tried loosing through other methods before going back to Optavia (Intermittent Fasting, counting calories through My Fitness Pal) but had no success, so I started back on Optavia in Jan. I'm only down 12 lbs now, so it's slower going this time, but it does work if you stick to it (and I agree that it is basically starving yourself).

Yes, definitely MLM. Unfortunately, everyone who I know who has used it (and LOTS have...and have had great success) has gained most, if not all, of it back. As with almost any diet, the only way to keep weight off is to continue to eat basically like you did to lose it.
