LOL. Some random on FB tried to tell me that the UK doesn't have freedom of speech like in the US (which is why we followed the lockdowns despite them not working and didn't protest). LOL for days.
More of a vent than a random, but I have a series of reports that I need to compile and send out by the end of each day, and every single freaking day someone forgets to submit their info and I have to call around to get them to actually send it to me, or dig for their info and enter it myself. It’s really not that hard to set a reminder on your phone for the days these things are due, and, you know, not LEAVE FOR THE FREAKING GYM until you’ve sent it in.

I have a follow up mammogram appt in about an hour and I'm dreading it. Possible calcification in the right boob. Only my 2nd mammogram ever, and it's abnormal. Yippee.
We installed a clothesline in our backyard this past weekend and I am so excited about it. Between the clothesline and having chickens for years, I just need to order some prairie dresses to reach peak cottagecore.
BlondeSpiders, crossing my fingers for your boobs. If you have dense breasts I'd insist on an ultrasound as well.
He has been having some upper GI issues for awhile (on the order of years). So, his new GI wanted an endoscopy. The colonoscopy was, in my opinion, an up sell bc our insurance will cover it at his age.
But, looks like it was a good thing. Removed 3 polyps. One is of concerning size. Upper endoscopy was clear, so no clarity to his issues.

I got the all clear. Yay, I get to keep my boobs for another year!
Our buyer is pulling out of the offer. :::eye roll::: Their inspector "thought" there might be some issues with the floor/foundation, so they brought in an engineer who "thought" there might be some issues with the basement floor.
Huh. Okay then. If I were a buyer in this market, I would want specifics and evidence, instead of "thinking" before I walked away from what is a pretty good deal for them, but okay.
I'm mostly pissed because they are being so...coy? about what it is. They don't have to share their inspection report. My BIL did one for us less than a year ago and found no issues, so what the fuck? UGH. I sure hope one of our backups is still interested and we can get a clear and straightforward inspection.
taratru , wow. I’m shocked by the inspection in this market, honestly. I suspect it will take you 3 seconds to find another.
That's where I am. There is no actual evidence of anything...no cracking or shifting. But okay!
Our first buyer backed out because “it was a non-traditional septic system.” Her inspector said it was functioning (we didn’t know that). We had our septic guy out to find the problem (since we didn’t get the report). He said it was perfect. Best anyone figure out she got cold feet or found something she liked more. It’s the gamble with “right to terminate” inspections.
We relisted and had a 6 more offers in 2 days. The best for $15k higher than the first contract. And the second buyer didn’t like the well report, so they paid to treat the well before closing. Crazy!
and this was last august. Which, from what I see, was a different market than today.
the house we lost 3 weeks ago... we lost by $125,000. And we went in 5% over asking 😳

This sucks! But you had so many that I bet it will be resolved quickly

This is my eternal struggle with every intern we've ever hired. We pay them, and pay them very well. How hard is it to turn in your damn timesheet at the end of the week? Apparently, very. Few things irritate me like having to chase people down for shit like this, especially when im trying to pay them!

This makes me think they maybe had some other reason for wanting to back out and they're using the inspection as their excuse. I hope you get a new contract quickly, I suspect in this market you will

Yeah, I think it's mom and dad freaking out from across the country...she's a first-timer and they are paying for it. What her realtor told ours was that the engineer said the corners of the house in the back had cracks and there might be some wall bowing. Uh...there aren't any cracks back there. And there is definitely no wall bowing, because the drywall would be cracking. I'm so pissed that some random dude can just...say that. We still haven't seen the inspection or that guy's report, either, which is bullshit. I think they made it up to get her fucking earnest money back. I just don't trust anyone anymore after all the true crime podcast listening.
So our realtor is going to contact our backup and our 2nd and 3rd backups to see if they are still interested. If they ask why the buyer pulled, he has to say an inspection objection, but also that we literally haven't seen a report, so we don't know what for. So stupid. All of those offers were higher anyway, just not cash. H wants to get an engineer in here to make sure we are good, just in case. My favorite part of all of this was when H told our realtor, "What I know, that the engineer guy doesn't know, is what kind of foundation we have, and it's not settling." He sounded so tough, ha!
Worst case, we relist, but I'm not worried. Not yet, anyway.

Holy SHIT, your last sentence is insane. I appreciate you sharing...that's exactly what happened to us, I think.
My FIL is 76, has MS, and lost the use of his legs some time ago. His wife (79!) has somehow still been caring for him at home, which is 1500 miles from any other family. They called a family meeting a few years ago to make plans since it was obvious then that this was going to happen. After everyone got home from that meeting, they informed us that they'd decided to do nothing. Nothing. Which means they decided to just wait until this became an emergency for everyone.
Well, guess what? FIL had a bad fall and the hospital is refusing to release him to go home until he regains use of his legs because he doesn't have appropriate care at home. They could have already sold their house and moved into assisted living or done any number of things to avoid this, but they didn't. Now they are freaking out and begging my H and his brother to help them somehow. I am so sad they are in this place, but I'm also so fucking pissed. It didn't have to go this way! It was so irresponsible and inconsiderate towards DH and his brother to let things get to this point.
@peep uggh I am so sorry you are in this position. My mom has MS and dad is caregiver and they have very detailed plans in case of emergency but it is still complicated since thinhgs don’t move as fast as the hospitals want them to.
Have you spoken with the hospital social worker? Does he qualify for a short term rehab stay at a nursing home or can they afford a paid caregiver?

I'm sorry about your mom. It's such an awful disease.
We have not spoken with the hospital social worker. MIL and FIL like to do everything themselves and keep everyone else in the dark until they need something or they can't keep something quiet any longer. It's incredibly frustrating. They both have state pensions and great insurance, so I'm sure he qualifies for all the care, and money isn't an issue in affording it. They have, until this point, refused to allow outside care at all. They have basically refused any and all help that could allow them to remain in their home together while also refusing to consider options like selling their home and moving into assisted living. It makes me want to scream.
I feel like this should be the taratru week of randoms thread. Hope it's not too annoying.
It's 4:53 am, and I'm about to jump on a Zoom call to interview for the Dean of Students position at the new school in Dubai. The time change is killing me, but I suppose I should be glad it's after the change, or it would be 3:53.
Also, we already have 6 more offers on our house, two of them who haven't even seen it. We have a full day of showings today again and a couple more tomorrow. We also have photographic evidence that the inspector put actual false information on his report, so I'm trying to decide what to do about that.

you are brave to go forward with selling your house given the visa paperwork delays. In your shoes I might wait until everything came back from the state department before putting it right back out there.
