I saw over the weekend per Axios that about 50% of adults have received at least once vaccine dose. Of course now I can't find the link.
But what really worries me is the massive second wave of infections in India esp. because of the double mutant identified and their slow down of vaccinations. The death rate is climbing and my family has felt that first hand. It's really awful.
DH and I received our first dose of Moderna last week. At first I was feeling hopeful but with infection rates climbing around the world again, I've found myself feeling a little helpless and counting down the days until 2 weeks post 2nd dose.
I didn't mean to be a downer, I still have hope that being vaccinated is another level of defense for us - vaccines, masks, distancing. It will all help.

My running buddy was telling me about the impacts on her family in india. Apparently 5 family members all got sick attending the same funeral. Two in the hospital. It's just spiking like crazy.
She said her cousins have told her mask wearing isn't super high. I'm not sure where they are exactly, I know she has another cousin in Bombay, but I don't know if that's where these family members live too.
I got my first Pfizer shot yesterday at one of the states mass vaccination sites. It was extremely well run, my slot was 4.30-5 I arrived at 4.30 and by 4.40 I was in 15 minute observation. Out before 5. I barely felt the shot which I was dreading because of a bad flu shot experience this winter. I feel relieved and happy. 2nd shot will be may 10th!
wawa, I am sorry for your friend. That's a common story I have heard - people getting sick from paying their respects to those who were lost. Mask wearing isn't high and the public gets confusing messaging from the government - which, IMO, is another worrisome issue beyond the management of COVID.
I got my second dose this morning! I was supposed to get it a week and a half ago, when DH got his, but because I had an 'adverse event ' after the first dose, they wanted a doctor's note saying that it was okay to give me a second dose, and wouldn't take my word that he said that it was okay.
I got to skip the first line, but I still had to go through all the normal steps after that, and they had me sit in the observation area longer, 'just in case.' Nothing happened though, so that was good. I mean, I am experiencing a milder version of the reaction that I had the last time (numbness around my lips), but I think I was already having that before I got the shot. It seems to come and go though, and it is confusing, like is it the same amount of numbness that I felt before the second dose, or is it different? Am I imagining things? Am I tired from my shot or am I tired because I didn't sleep well last night? Or maybe it's just that being around hundreds of people at once, while masked and social distancing, is just exhausting? I don't even remember what 'normal' is any more, so I don't have any answers to my questions. lol
I am relieved to be vaccinated, but I am not sure that much is going to change for us...at least not for awhile. I would rather err on the side of caution, and not rush into doing all of the usual pre-pandemic things at once.
Walgreens (and some other pharmacies) were initially scheduling Pfizer vaccinations 4 weeks apart instead of 3, because it was logistically easier for them to have Pfizer/Moderna on the same schedule. But they were recently told to stop doing that and to stick to the 3 week schedule for Pfizer. At the time I booked my Walgreens appointment, my second Pfizer shot had been scheduled for 4 weeks out, but Walgreens is now saying that people who had second appointments booked 4 weeks out can try to reschedule their appointment earlier, once they hit day 20.
Well, Walgreens' website makes it IMPOSSIBLE to reschedule an existing appointment because it only searches in like a 2 mile radius from where you are - even though I can see there are a ton of other available/earlier appointments online just slightly further away. It won't let me select a different location for an appointment on day 21, even though I know the appointments exist. Even creating a new online account didn't work, because it managed to find me in the system under my name/birthday anyway and then just told me "no, you can't make a new appointment, you have to edit your existing one." Except your system won't let me do that!
So now I've booked my second shot on day 21 at a completely different pharmacy chain 45 minutes away, and I'll have to cancel the Walgreens appointment. Ugh. I feel kind of bad for "taking up space in the system" and then cancelling my appointment, but it's really amazing that such a major pharmacy chain has such a shitty online system. Everything about this entire process has made me really feel for people who *aren't* tech savvy and don't have hours of time to waste figuring all of this crap out.
And yes, I'm aware I could have just waited the extra week to get my second shot. But I have some specific family stuff going on next month that I really wanted to be fully vaccinated for in order to feel comfortable participating. So like I said, this is a very petty dumb vent.
I didn't even try rescheduling because I was worried it would somehow screw up my appointment, but yeah.. it's frustrating. I just had my 2nd shot yesterday. Other than the 4 week debacle, I feel like Walgreens did a pretty good job. I received a ton of reminders and could check the app to see my appointment.
I had my first Pfizer vaccine yesterday through a FEMA vaccination site in MN. It was so well-run and staffed by Air Force National Guard. The medics were giving the shots and then other guardsmen and guardswomen were manning the check-in tables and observation areas. I can't imagine that any of this was what they thought they would be doing for their guard service, but I was so happy that it made a site like that possible.

DH and I got our second Pfizer shots on Saturday at a mass vaccination site run by the National Guard. It took longer than last time because there were more people in line and they didn't have a separate line for 2nd shot vs 1st shot. Still, we were so glad to be done. Both times I felt the shots were very painless, I've had worse flu shots. After the first dose, we both just had sore arms. After the 2nd dose we both felt our sore arm was a bit more sore. And yesterday I felt very fatigued as if I had jet lag. But other than that we are doing well.
My dad in the Netherlands gets his first shot this week. My mom will get her first shot early next month. The rollout there has been a mess. And so many people want to go back to normal. They are even doing 'experiments'. One radio station wanted to organize a big outdoor event with 10,000 people and the government ok'd it and even wanted to spend a ton of money on it. There was lots of outrage as the cases are still going up there and hospitalizations are up as well. Luckily the local city where they wanted to have it declined to give them a permit.
Those who received their second Pfizer shot, did you do it in the other arm?
I did. I got it in my right arm for Shot 1, and my left arm for Shot 2 (Shot 1 I purposefully turned the chair for it to go in my dominant arm, and then for Shot 2, I didn't care, so I left the chair as it was and that was left-arm-facing to the NP that administered the shot).
The 2nd shot hurt going in (a burning sensation) and I STILL have injection site pain occasionally, 2 months later (so weird).

Yeah, my H's family in India have definitely had quite a few cases of Covid. We're fortunate that none have died but a few have ended up in hospital and are struggling with Long Covid. It's really sad.
Those who received their second Pfizer shot, did you do it in the other arm?
Yes but only bc I was a passenger in the car for the first shot and I was driving for the second shot. Obv I was at a drive thru clinic. I don’t think it matters? I didn’t have any reaction with either.

I got mine in the same arm. I always get shots in my dominant arm under the idea that the more you use it the less sore it will be. The 2nd shot hurt so much worse. I’m not sure if it was because I got it in the same arm though, if it was the nurse or what caused it.

No. I did both in my left arm because it was a drive through clinic and I was the driver.
My 2nd shot hurt going in, but not terribly. My first didn't hurt at all (like, I didn't even feel it). Despite having more pain upon injection, I had less overall pain from the 2nd shot. I wouldn't say the pain from either shot was severe, though.
I got my second shot on Saturday and yesterday I had a few hours that I was super dizzy and I just kind of felt off all day. Then last night I must have rolled over onto my side where I got the shot and when I woke up my whole arm all the way down to my fingertips was throbbing. And my right hip is jacked up too. I feel like I aged 20 years overnight, lol.
I'm getting nervous about how many people are going to get vaccinated in Nebraska. Omaha is at about 35% of 16 and older vaccinated and there was a tweet today about vaccines possibly getting wasted tonight. Locations have moved to walk in as appointments aren't filling up and our eligibility just expanded 3 weeks ago to 16 and older.
Tweet says: "*ATTENTION* Metro Community College North Omaha Campus has Moderna Vaccine that will have to be wasted at 6 PM tonight. Just show up and #GetVaccinated"

melmaria Rite-Aid is the same way. They didn’t do the weird four-week scheduling thing with the Pfizer vaccine, but they’re similar in that they assign you ONE time — there’s no choice; it comes in an email the next day — and if you try to adjust it, the system says there’s no availability.
(In the end it worked out for me though; I drove an hour for my first dose at a Rite Aid but ended up scheduling my second at a CVS 10 minutes from my house.)

Ok- I am not kidding about this 😂 I woke up from my nap with a fever and a craving for some cake. Then my FB had an ad for cheesecake. About 20 min. later, I remembered the Pfizer cheesecake craving thing someone mentioned here. I guess my 5G was activated. Hahaha.
