My second Pfizer shot took me down today. Got the shot around 11:30am yesterday, got a headache in the early evening, woke up this morning with a headache, an incredibly sore arm, was dizzy and was so achy. I didn't develop a fever, but did sleep for 3 hours. I am feeling better now, but don't have an appetite or a cheesecake craving.
Got my 2nd jab this morning. I'm preempting the cheesecake craving with a massive bag of twizzlers and salt and vinegar chips that CVS mind control made me buy.

The few people we've had come into our house for things over the past year have all been great about wearing masks.
I would say that is not the case when dealing with the construction industry via my job. It's one of the reasons I've been so hesitant to visit job sites until I was vaccinated.
Eye protection - you're just an idiot if you don't wear safety glasses/googles on a job site. I don't wear glasses, so they annoy me but I take my PPE seriously.
ETA: idiot is a strong word. Protecting your eyes is always a good choice.

I'm about 22 hrs post-2nd shot and am totally fine. I had a headache yesterday but I had it before the shot so I can't say if the shot contributed at all.
I am in TX and have had various contractors do indoor and outdoor work the past year. I saw some work where people should have been wearing masks and eye protection to avoid breathing in dust or having sawdust get in their eyes, but they weren't wearing anything. I can understand runs on PPE could have been a cause, but not on eye wear and you can use shirts or bandanas to help cover your face. I honestly wonder if face coverings became political even for those that normally wear them.
Most recently I have had many estimates from contractors for indoor work and I immediately judge them if they don't have a mask on. I gave a carpet guy a paper mask today and I think he said he hadn't worn one in months. Of course he wore it below his nose the whole time.
I love my eyes so much that I wear safety goggles when doing electrical work or using strong cleaners (like lime away).
All this while I freak out about the new TX Brazos variant.
Note: None of my comments are directed at people that cannot wear a mask for medical or similar reasons.
I’m also having a bunch of contractors out for quotes. One guy whined that I asked him to wear a mask. Another took it off the minute they stepped outside even though I kept mine on. So annoying. I’m giving the work to the company that wore an N95 the whole time. It’s as good a reason to pick a contractor as any in these times.
Let that contractor with the N95 know that it was a decision leading to them receiving work. Those actually following through with health guidelines need the kudos.

Last summer, we had a contractor out for a bid and even after we told him multiple times, he kept pulling his mask below his nose inside. I kicked him out. I was raging. He finished his conversation with DH outside but as soon as he left, I just said "nope" and we never contacted him. I'm sure he knows why he didn't get the job.
We also had a "Veterans for Biden" sign outside, so I wonder if he was doing it purposely. He was quite smug the whole time and did a few things that pissed me off like dismissing my questions or turning to my dad for confirmation, even though my parents have nothing to do with the project. We went with a woman who is absolutely amazing and is strict about masks with her crew

I didn't hire a company that came to give me an estimate on a $12k+ new furnace and water heater because they didn't show up wearing masks and when I asked if he had one, he said he didn't have one with him. I mean... you don't have one in a work truck when you'll be doing demo of walls and ceilings to get to the plumbing and duct work?! I wanted to yell "Liar" like on Princess Bride.

I am so heartened to hear stories of people getting vaccines. Vaccinations have been declining nationally and I'm getting weird we'll hit the plateau earlier than expected. But I refuse to believe fully half of American adults are refusing the vaccine and that it's access that's the primary issue still, so hopefully if J&J vaccinations resume we can continue bringing those vaccines to more rural areas or transit deserts in more populated areas.

Unfortunately we are already seeing states decline additional vaccine shipments. We are going to need to find a way to reach those that are hesitant. I think we will easily hit 60% but I'm not sure we will get more than that unless people find they need to get vaccinated to travel/work/whatever.
Speaking of which, I would love to hear people's take on this! They first offered a $500 bonus to all employees that got the Covid vaccine. Apparently that wasn't enough.

Governors are starting to tie vaccination numbers to when they’ll end mask mandates (I think West Virginia did this?) and I think that’s a good way to get people who aren’t exactly vaccine hesitant, but more vaccine-meh to actually get up and get it.
The mass vax clinic in my city (where I got mine) is now accepting walk ins, which is great for convenience but also maybe not a good sign? I just can’t put myself in a mindset where I would be ambivalent about getting it. I was so thrilled and relieved.

Not Texas. Mask mandate has been gone for over a month now.

NY is definitely not there yet (there are many who want the vaccine but may not have transportation to get there), so I expect our numbers to continue going up but no idea when we'll start plateauing. But my sister in MS is basically like "Yeah, everyone I know who wanted the vaccine got it (which is very few people including herself) and everyone left is steadfastly refusing."
I was watching a local news story about vaccine hesitancy and one person who spoke to a reporter said she still wants to "wait and see" how other people do with it. I realized it doesn't matter that well over 100 million Americans have been vaccinated already - if people in her circle are not vaccinated, then those 100+ million Americans don't matter. People want to know how people they know and trust are doing with it. Which is probably why the refusers I hear about in my neighborhood are within the same families, i.e. households are either all vaccinated or scheduled to get vaccinated or none of them are. My next-door neighbors are a family of 6 with everyone 16+, and 5 of them got the vaccination as soon as they could and 1 was a holdout but finally got it after he saw the rest of his family be fine with it.
I ran into some friends while out walking this week and we had the vaccine/mask talk: all three fully vaccinated, outdoors, new state guidance...is it really safe to walk near each other for 10 min while on the same route without pulling our masks on?
Such strange times we are living in to have these conversations.

MN's decline is entirely J&J related, from what I understand. We're just not getting the same amount of vaccine we were in early April. But those we do get are virtually all being used and administration of Pfizer and Moderna are going up.

If everyone is fully vaccinated you could be indoors without masks on and still be following CDC guidance.
I just checked vaccinespotter.org and for the first time in weeks I am seeing tons of available appointments in the Twin Cities metro. Last week this time, the closest available were an hour or more away.
Got my first Pfizer shot yesterday! Today just a sore arm and a slight headache when I woke up. The vaccine site was in an empty store at the Mall Of America (MN). They have it coordinated so well, probably about 20-30 stations going at once. I had my shot within 2 mins of walking in. They had a big banner showing that they’ve given 80,000 shots just at that site since it opened. Made me feel hopeful!
Ontario government has moved pregnant individuals to high priority status after alarming outcomes for pregnant women and babies who contracted the new UK variant.
My Sister is 15 weeks right now and this is a relief. She was able to book a vaccine this morning for mid-May. In the meantime she has pulled her 18mo from daycare and they are in full stay home mode.

I've been running with the same few friends all through lockdown, and we've just been careful to distance as we run (we're those obnoxious people taking up an entire lane on the road rather than running on the 4' sidewalk. we run at 5 AM though so meh) and we chat in the parking lot beforehand from well away from each other.
we're now all fully vaccinated (I was last) and I CARPOOLED with one of them to a pretty waterfront route last weekend. It was wild.
And then this morning without even thinking about it, we still didn't get near each other while running. Including taking a selfie where she held the camera and I stood 6 feet behind her. The first time I go somewhere crowded and am shoulder to shoulder with strangers (like in 2023 at this rate) it's going to feel SO strange.

Same in my city. We have multiple mass vax locations and they have been taking walk ins for more than a week.. They are closing the biggest site May 1. Going to smaller ones areas that have low vax rates. They even had a site at a brewery the other day that gave a free pint if you got your shot there.

I can’t speak to rural areas, but they seem to be working things out in LA County. I was having trouble getting my husband scheduled for an appointment because the large, drive-thru site close to us was blocked for more underserved areas. All of a sudden, last week, I was able to find an appointment for DH while hearing of pop-up vaccination clinics happening in more underserved areas. So apparently they are changing tactics, which is awesome.
I am scheduled for my second dose next Friday. I am then supposed to return to the office less than a week after that. I am really having trouble processing how I feel about this. My office is about 100 people in an open floor concept, and we have been working from home since last March. They suddenly decided that EVERYONE must return by June 1. We have been severely understaffed the whole pandemic even though they claim they are trying to hire people. This hiring usually amounts to 1 person a month...which is far fewer than quit every month, so it has been a consistent loss of staff.
I already disliked the job, but was willing to put up with it while being able to stay at home, so I will now be looking diligently for another job, since they took this option away.
I’m frustrated at people like my BIL who are very against the COVID vax. Yet come to find out, he had COVID and now has breathing issues that prevent him from doing his job fully. Like...fine, you don’t want the vax, but why do you actively try to discourage other healthy people from getting it?Doesn’t it suck not to be able to do minor things without struggling to breathe?! Do you think other people want to deal with that when there’s a vaccine that can help prevent long term issues? Ughhh.
